Finnaly I'm complete with the character screen and I'm very satisfyed with the result =) I'm gonna explain how this baby works:

At the top you see the party status, this is unique for RPGs AFAIK. The whole party share the same level and experience (exp). At the moment I can increase the exp by pressing enter. When exp goes over the next value the party levels up and each hero gains 10 points to spend on their skills. The next value dynamicly updates every level making the next level a little harder to get then the previous.

The heroes have 5 different skils:
CONstitution ATTack
ENDurance DEFend
AGIlity

CON - Hero lose less life when taking damage
END - Hero lose less energy preforming the special move
AGI - Hero gains power faster and can move more often
ATT - Hero hits better
DEF - Hero blocks better

To make each hero unique the skills doesn't cost the same for all and also have differnt max values. As you can see each hero have 10 points (levelup from 1 to 2) to spend and all skills have 8 skillpoints. Only those skills upgrades that costs 10 or less can be bought with the points and those are colored brown (instead of green).

When the mouse (the little bold sword pointer) is above an avalible skill upgrade the skill turns orange as you can see. The cost is also displayed for the skill. The cost shows even if you can't afford the skill upgrade. By clicking the mouse over an orange skill the skill increases by 1 point. And the hero pays the cost in points.

Did that make sense? =)

BTW, this can't be made in DB1. Look at the edges, perfect! No black (or other color) edges.

Thanks =)
I don't think I will have time to make everything ready by Jan 1st. And I need some bugs fixed and patch 4 wont be out until Jan. But I should have most of the game working. The editor is now a lot better and making the whole world should be prety easy. There are still a few things I need to be able to place out like dialogs and battles. And the battle engine isn't even started on but I have done similar ones before.

Yepp, acording to Lee it will be completed now in Dec and then it will be tested before it's released in Jan. You may have to patch down or simply email Chad and tell him you must wait for the patch.

but... I already delayed release until end of Jan... if patch 4 doesn't come out till then that puts enormous pressure on me, during my exams

I can't even make levels while I wait, because levels are the problem!

oh... I see you still have a problem with those lines on the matrix. Have you emailed Lee about it?
he may be able to help... he hasn't helped me any as of yet, but you never know

Maybe it's just a local problem, have you tested on different systems?

The lines aren't the only problem, the tiles are rotated 180 degrees. And I heard that others got the same problem. I have sent my whole project to Lee (he asked for it) so hopefully it's fixed in patch 4. But I can still work on the game. I bet you can do so too. I'm not even working on the map now (as you can see). You have to 1 Mar to complete the game so there's still time. Just tell Chad the situation.

Oh I have, I have. I will see if I can get together my stuff to send Lee. I just don't want to trouble him if it's my fault. Although I don't see how thats possible, the import/export is too basic for me to have screwed up. Or maybe I think to highly of myself.
Last time I sent Lee stuff, he ran my project and everything was fine. He sent me an EXE he compiled with my code and heres what happened: On an exe compiled in my machine, the problem still occurred. On the exe he sent my, it didn't occur. Wierd. Could it possibly be my cpu?

(sorry to hijack your post DG)

Well, Lee doesn't always keep track of the changes he makes =) And maybe he tried it on a newer version of DBP? Btw, do you put all files inside the exe? DBP won't be able to find datafiles you are trying to read from if they are inside the exe.

Don't worry about the post, I'm glad I'm getting any replies in this forum =)

Oh, I got this mail from Chad:

The character screen looks really well done. Good job. Just keep
things going the way they are and it looks like you'll have something really
cool going for your game. Thanks for the update.

No, it's an external Data File. It loads the geometry, but positions them all wrong. I even tried encoding the position of each object in the save file. The positions were right, the code can't possibly be wrong, yet the positions are all messed up still. I'm at a loss...

Well if it reads the file then you can code around it...

no, it reads the file fine:
While I am setting up the level, I set up an error log, recording the positions of the object, and where it is supposed to be.

This is what I get:

It lists what the object type is, then the position of it after calculating were it should according to it's position in the array.
Then the given part is the actual coordinates given in the file.
The actual part is where it is placed according to the coordinates given in the file.

The last two parts were just added, so that I could be sure it wasn't a problem with my code.

Even though DB reports these positions, all the blocks are at the same ZDepth, and all blocks are seemingly randomly positioned inside an approximatly 10x12x1 grid.

AAARRRGGG!!!

So, could you please clarify what exactly you do in your game? Your website was a bit vague last time I checked... that was a few days ago.

great attention to holding a particular style there DG

It is clean and accurate but also interesting to look at.

Its good to see more cartoon genres emerging in the game world.

Thats pretty advanced code man. Start smaller. I can tell you the windows are made in photoshop () and the characters and objects and such are made in Lightwave. The matrix is made in his own custom Matrix editor.

RPG prety much said it all =) I don't have time teaching anyone and I belive you learn better if you figure it out yourself. It have taken me 1½ year with DB to learn how to code this and I'm learning more every day as I make this game. Most of the looks can't be made using DB alone, you need artis skills as well and that took me even longer then learning DB. And you also need DBP for this kind of graphics.

Ya. Thats why a lot of people have teams Some people are great programmers, just suck at graphics. Looks like DG nailed it all!!! You dont come across this kinda talent very often! Good job man!

Hey- shouldnt you be finishing TML right now- instead of surfing the forums?? LOL!!! Keep it up man! Great job!

You are really 'motering' as previously quoted I mean this in a way of- going along very fast recently

GREAT JOB MAN!!

I do a little of everything. I can't understand C++ if I tried but DB I can. I'm not a great artist but mixing my 2D and 3D skills I can still make things look good.
