Thanks for the mention btw ( I never noticed it before! ).

And, the tutorials and explanations are very nice. It's a shame that you've been away for so long.

Hello all, I know zen has been gone for quite some time, so I took it upon myself to create my own Tile/Map Editor. Youll find it here
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=51923&b=8

If you all think this editor is any good, Ill consider making a tutorial where zenassem left off. Oh and Source code is included with the editor.

P.S. Please leave me some feedback and if anyone is talented in 2d my editor could use a new GUI.

Just an update. I'll be re-working this tutorial and host on my webpage. It's just too difficult to keep track of everthing on the forum. I can still answer questions about the tutorial here, and will likely post update information. My site is under construction at the moment. I'll post again when everything is ready to go.

the site is [href]www.zenassem.com[/href]

Thanks,
~zenassem

I would just like to thank Zen for all his hard work. This tutorial has got me interested in DB again!

It would have been nice to see it finished and in a .pdf file or something easier to download but I think perhaps the commitment required for Zen to keep this running has spiralled out of control so I don't blame him for leaving it unfinished - it was very generous of him to devote as much time to it as he did.

Thanks again for this Zen, I have alot of reading and learning to do now but you've made it a whole lot easier.

Cheers!

Look who's back. Back again. Zen is back. Call a friend.

I'm still going to finish this, even if it kills me. I'll have to check if all the code still works.

Great to see your back and ready to work on this Zen. Be sure to give yourself some breaks in between though. You deserve them. Keep up the ace work.

Thanks MikeS.

I just posted in the newcomers section regarding my completing this tutorial. I realized i missed a big opportunity. And that was to show how to make a simple level of a mario-like platformer, before jumping into the map maker.

In a way it will reward the people for their reading and understranding of arrays, before taking on the big step in creating the tool. Plus, they will definately see why a level design tool is necessary for a larger game and multiple levels, aI, triggers, etc.

So I hope to get some things up in the next few days, (possibly tonight).

Great, I've been keeping a close eye on your thread for when you complete the project. Might be a good idea to submit it for the June newsletter once you're finished, it's looking good.

Hey, I really like this, it's helping me get the grips of 2D. But I was curious as to whether you could put the TileForge up as an .exe, as it may be easier for some lazy people like myself. =)

instead of cls at the start of your loop and sync at the end
i would just deploy fastsync (DBP) only.

cls acts as a sync as well so your doubling up.
