Hey Nack (Oh, sorry, Gothboy's language is addicting), You know what else you could do, sell your level editor to the public (Say goodbye to RPG maker, Nack's got something to beat the $hit out of it), And people could make RPGs with your level editor with ease, and don't worry about Lee noticing it, he'd be stoned not to, I've seen the games he puts in the newsletter, and comparing with yours, it's gonna make it at the VERY beginning of the newsletter once you release the beta version. The first very complex 3d RPG to be finished in Dakbasic, I've seen very many started and then haven't heard anything about them since, like that one RPG that has all the levels in and you're the green ball that can walk around all the levels, what ever happened to that game? Well anyways:

Darkbasic/DBPro's best games:

FPS : Strutt Your Stuff

RTS : Operation Invasion Evasion

RACING : Roswell Racer

RPG : Vatica

Flying/shooting : Room War

Misc : Town Hall Toaster

This is just my opinion my homies so don't get all fu#king pissed and sh!t dogs if this ain't the $hit you like. Peace out! Just had to let out the Gangsta in me.

Without hating, this world would be perfect.

Wow, thank you for liking mine game. I am glad i created something that people likes. I will work really hard to get the beta out, thank you!...Maybe i will sell my editor after this, it is pretty much a full-pledge rpg maker. Maybe I could sell it to get some money so i could buy giles and NG...hmmm.... kind of need those if this game grows bigger...haha

ok, been working hard on the beta. However, been running into some problems with frame rates. Its either mine computer or the code. The frame rates drops like mad when I include the conversation and battle functions. So therefore, I released this simple walkthrough demo to see how the frame rates is. I want to make sure that it is the codes problem that is causing the fps issues. Hope u guys can try this and tell me what the fps was, i need to find out the problem before i can add in the conversation and battle functions.

Thank you all.

you have to go to his sight once, then paste the download link into the browser while you are visiting his site. then it works. playing now by the way

[edit] - very nice!! I like the graphics and music very much! I played on 1024x768 mode, got a smooth 50-60fps no problem. one note, since most of your rooms are flat, a simple plain shadow would work nice I think... overall very nice!

Ah, works now. Thanks walaber.

Edit: I got the same as walaber. 50 to 60 1024*768. Nice and rpg like though I got confused with the camers in the first room.

It seems tripod dont like linking files download, but copy and paste seems to work fine. Anyone know anywhere that can upload stuff and ppl can download it off easy?

Thanks walaber and MIR for trying this. Will improve some stuff on it. if u guys can obtain 50-60 fps, then the problem of frame rates lies in other places....the search continues.......

Once again, thank you for trying! Now i know its the code problem and not my computer...phew...haha

OK here are my thoughts after playing it alot and trying to brake it in every way I could think of.

Really well done, graphics are really good(love the style), excellent frame rate so far.
All in all I give it about a 4 3/4 out of 5, the reason being is that it's not complete and
I REALLY WANNA PLAY THE WHOLE GAME RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Whoa, sorry about that.)

- Music is great.

- Highest res good 66 fps

- The FPS dropped down to 45 at the lowest res setting.

- Camera angles need some adjustment.

- Model to level scale could use a slight adjustment(unless it's suppose to look that way)the enviroment just looks a little big compared to the character.

- Character needs some eyes and the
lower body looks a bit funny during the walk animation, the legs are a bit long and thickish looking too.

- When I pressed the control (ctrl) key the camera went nuts.

- The controls could use a slight tune up.

- You should hide the mouse

BTW Is something suppose to happen with the little RPGmaker guy?

Oh and here are my system specs if you want 'em.

@Indian Homie G
There are many ways to do collision inside a level, there is that sliding collision code in the code snippets, or just use Nuclear Glory DLL. Both works great!

@Space Man Spiff
Thank for trying the game. Ya, still need to fix up a lot things in the game. Expect a better one in the future. Better camera and movement control. The character isnt done yet, probably end up making another one....haha That RPG guy is just a place marker, nothing special. He is mainly to test out the movement functions.

@walaber
Hey, Looks like you and space man spiff found that part out. That was there for debugging and testing reasons. There is also a conversation part hidden in there, but it really slow for some reason. See if you can find it hehe Going to release a better version with conversation, better environment and camera control later on.

Thank you for trying guys!

Thats the link to the code, it was written by Kensupen, it work great for a indoor levels. I believe there was a sonic game awhile ago that use this code too. And that game ran great. If you dont have too many object to test collision against, this code is perfect for you. However, If you test collision against many many object, use NG DLL.

Ok, a bit of update. I finally found out the bug that keep my frame rate down. Now the game can have fully conversation without frame rate drops! But battle still have massive frame rate drop for some reasons...sigh....but its a start.
Also been messing around with outdoor scene. Kind of got bored with so many indoor scene. These shots are still in beta, the message box is just a place marker. Will do a better one later.

Thats all for now, will work more on it later. Feel free to comment.

God that was beautiful. I downloaded the demo off the previous page.
The game would not run at all for me before, the thing you fixed for Oneka also fixed it for me as well.

Maybe it's just because I spent several hours last night plowing through FF8 disk1, but the game had a groovin subtle FF vibe to it. The music, the camera transitions, and the little chubby guy bouncing up and down. This is quality stuff, and I saw earlier you had designed a level editor for it to speed up your production. This is awesome.

(Just to clarify, there's only the couple of places you can go in the download right? I'd hate to have missed something)

Hi all,
@Indian Homie G
I pretty much use the same code in the code snippets, all you have to do is change the camera position() to object position() so it can collide against objects instead of camera.

Quote: " I downloaded it but I couldn't even get to a menu or anything, it just froze my computer. Any installation tips?"

Really? hmmm...will look into that too. Thank you for telling me. Do anyone else experience this problem too?

Quote: "Just to clarify, there's only the couple of places you can go in the download right? I'd hate to have missed something"

Yep, there is only one place to download it.

Quote: "why don't you put up a zip download to, because I'm sure that there are a lot of people who would like to try your game but they don't have winrar and don't want to get winrar."

Ok, i will put up a zip version then. But not at the moment, cus i will be releasing a new beta soon, so no point putting two up. haha

Quote: "Just a question... where do you get the trees"

Made one by myself, and the rest was made by a friend.

Well, just a bit of update on my progress. Almost finish fixing the bugs issues with conversations. Going to have another beta up to test frame rates soon. Thank you all for trying the first beta. And thank you for all the inputs!

Hi,
Just downloaded the demo

Quote: "The character isnt done yet, probably end up making another one"

I think he suits the style of the environment really well, but then you might have an even better one in the making. I found that sometimes it was a little hard to see the "doors" from one area to another but liked the way the current area faded away instead of just instantly changing and you can change the cameras position so I guess that isn't really a problem.

I thought the music definately had an RPG style to it but didn't really suit that perticular area.

Oh and I'm getting pretty much bang on 60 fps with P4 2.6 GHZ, XP Home, 512MB and, 80GB hard drive

@Play2kill
Thanks for ur comment Play2kill! The camera is a bit weird on the first one cus didnt implement multi-angle camera thingy in that one. But its fully functional in this beta.

@Indian Homie G
The outdoor levels is actually builded from my previous editor. The one I abandoned last yr. What I basically did was make a matrix, texture it with one texture, export it to .x, thats pretty much it. Nothing special haha. Didnt use that terrain thing.

Well, finished the next beta. This beta is mostly outdoor...well, all outdoor scenes. Trying to go for a "fantasy" feel to it.

This is one of the maps of the beta, too lazy to take the shot in game, so I just took it in the editor. Sorry bout that...haha

The beta is done, just need to upload it to dbspot...hope to get email soon

[Waiting for email is part of the process in dbspot right? not doing anything wrong?....ya, first time using it ..haha]

Well, since I loaded in .x format, I edit it using a modeler, to take out any unnecessary polygons....besides, since this is an rpg, there is only a few high polygon models in one map, so it doesnt really matter haha

Well, dbspot works! so I uploaded the new beta, there is a rar and a zip file.
http://nack.dbspot.com/Vatica%201.1.rar (3.7 MB)
http://nack.dbspot.com/Vatica%201.1.zip (5.7 MB)

It just gets better and better, I love the way the camera changes when you start talking to someone, getting 58-60 fps.
