Do you know how you are going to make the animations change smoothly, or are they going to switch between them jerkily?

eg. while swinging the sword you are hit and start playing a recoil animation.

After checking my mail for the first time in a month I ran across your email.

Quote: "hey its gothboy do you mind if i use the layout of youre menu it looks alittle different well here it is.
"

Why? Cant you make your own?
Quote: "looks alittle different"

No it doesnt, you pasted a lava texture over my screen shot and mirrored the left character pannel to cover up the portrait squares

Now just make your own from scratch, u'll be much more pleased with the results, plus it will fit your game more. If the points of interest are "reletivly" in the same location thats fine and I dont give a damn, but dont just overlay screenshots for your own stuff.

Im not mad or anything, just... irritated/annoyed, since your only 12 or so I understand.

Ambition is one of the coolest most dangerous things around.

If we never take risks and go against the insanely impossible life would get pretty boring.

That being said, keep working gothboy. It'll probably take you a long time, but if you do finish it, you'll be very pleased with yourself, and you will have learned a TON throughout the process. Do as _Mike_ said, start with learning different ways to do things (like a dude on a matrix), and you can slowly start building your knowledge and apply it to your project. Once you do feel you are ready to begin serious production on Midtime then be sure to take a couple months to plan it all at least.

If you plan, there's a beter chance of being successful than if you just start "hacking" code(by hacking I mean just sitting down in front of DB with no idea of what you're going to do and just start plunking away trying to make it come out right).

or you could start with pong...gave me enough satisfaction. This is clearly impossible without a team of people, who willingly put months, if not years into the creation. if you do this on your own, darkbasic will be obsolete by the time you finish, and programming wont be the same.(of course this wont come to be until microsoft rules the world)

Right you have just stepped over the mark... if your definition of newb is someone who nows what there doing and can quite competenly program then you are obviously a complete and utter idiot. why dont you take your Morrowind... um i mean "Midtime" and shove it right up your ass. Then learn the real meaning of "newb". Also i wouldnt bother insulting me again cos theres more from where this came from!!!

gothboy, you shouldn't taker or even consider using another person's media. If you had to steal that menu layout, I wonder if you stole that flying demon.

I still want you to post a wireframe of the demon model, an overhead view(non wire), a side view(non wire), and an exact polygon count.

A book? I hate book. Book is stupid.

gothboy 101, START SMALL!!, pause your rpg for a few weeks and try working on something small such as breakout (that's what i did) and take the time to learn about controling objects, collision, destruction, creation and effects etc.

i'll put you in perspective, my current project is a mech game i'm working on with a friend that we have been working on for months (since about january this year i think) and i wouldn't class it as anywhere near finnished although it has only had divided attention.

We don't have enemies, ai, healthbar, energybar we only have collision, 8 weapons, weapon selecting, zoom on one weapon, particle system, decal system, lens flare and movement.

this project is over 3000 lines of code which is 50+ pages of a4 at font size 10

you can try the game http://www.lochviewwest.plus.com/newestab.rarthe name is no longer armoured beast but XWP-4 (extreme weapons platform 4, the 4 fits in the story as you will find when we release the nearer finished product) hold spacebar to skip the intro.

also remember that there are 2 programmers on this who are quite experienced, i encourage you to keep trying with your rpg but take a short break to do a small project that you will complete.

edit we have started adding sounds since that was uploaded and have altered the machinegun decal to make it smaller.

Gothboy - You're just too funny. Why make an MMORPG anyway? Why not make an RPG first. You are obviously ambitious (which is a good thing) but take it from me, a longtime coder: If you bite off way more than you can chew you will, um, choke.

Good luck, though. Some of these smack talkers have never made anything themselves. They just like to hijack newbs' threads until they eventually get locked.

gothboy 101: MikeS has now asked you twice to post additional screens of your model and you ignored him completly. Which realy comes to mind that you didn't make that model (seen it before somewhere...) and the fact that you first ask for a modeller because you claim you can't model and then BAM! 3D models out of nowhere. This whole project is going down the drain, and your newbiesh talk, poor grammer and punctuation is not helping.

Do you guys not have anything better to do (i.e. making your own damn game) than to demand questions? Gothboy doesn't have to answer to anyone. Most people go into a project to learn, so just because he doesn't have every answer on the tip of his tongue doesn't mean he can't figure it out for himself. So Gothboy maybe shouldn't have created a thread for a game that's this early doesn't mean he needs you so-called "knowitalls" to hijack the damn thread. If I were a mod some of you would be banned so fast it would make your head spin...

Geez, some of you should go outside, smell the fresh air, get some coffee, maybe meet a girl?

I only asked about if he knew how to have non jerky animations incase he may have wanted a little help learning how to avoid jerky animations - as you said most people start projects to learn.

@gothboy 101 Good luck with your project. Ambition is always good thing. However, just saying what you are going to do and making fancy descriptions, websites and medieval speeches is not going to get the project done. We've all been there and now you are aware that you have got to plan, take your time and do the difficult work, you will be a better programmer and be much more likely to get some serious progress done. Notice that once you showed that you were doing more work and less talk, on your other Midtime thread, we all praised your work since you were going the right way about it and actually doing it. Good luck with your game but do work hard on the game itself as your many great ideas won't code themselves.
