Did I mention all the things it's for or should I finish the list?

Gaming, programming (2 or 3 languages and all media creation), both a gaming server and a web site server, school, video editing, and finally order tracking.

If you look at it my way I am acctualy saving money.

I won't have to buy another computer for atleast 20 years, I normally buy a new computer every 6 months at about $600, so $1200 * 20 = $24000, which would only cost me $12000.

I would rather have a kick a$$ comp for 10 years, then a basic comp for the next 10 years then have a crappy new comp every six months.

And besided why wouldn't I do it, I get to write the WHOLE thing off come April! (it's for my business)

I run 2 game servers, program in 12 languages, make 3D renders, and all my school work (and some work for my job) using a $2500 computer which should last at the very least 5 years without an upgrade and when it does need one I'll just spend $300 and get the parts. There's no way you can keep a computer lasting 20 years without upgrades, we have a few computers at work that were supposed to do that (costing around $10,000 each), one's currently siting dismantled on a self in the lab the other's been upgraded twice and is used as a DOS machine for reading data off instruments.

Pfft 20 years? My computer is five years old (thats why I'm getting a new one! I've got to pay £100 to the cost though (£380))! And its specs are:

733MHz P3
128 MB Ram
14GB Harddrvive
Windows 98 SE
1* Floppy disk drive (which has been replaced)
CD-ROM Has burnt it's self out.
Zip drive - hardly sed as no-one else has one.
And it's had a new mouse and keybaord.

In twenty years there will at least be new OS's to upgrade to.

Bleeding edge computers are okay in two years, old in three years and junk in five years. This has remained true for decades and it will always be so.

You've got to laugh..... ZX spectrums were the norm 20 years ago. Come 2024 you will probably have watches more powerful and with more memory than what you are quoting. If not I'm damn sure a pocket PC will be.

I finally got Doom3 working sweetly - I ended up buying a superb little program called UltraMon to handle my multi-display set-up. It let me build a "games" profile which de-activated the 2nd monitor and re-jigged all of that jaz and a "work" profile which had it set up the way I like.

Now Doom3 runs in High Mode at a good resolution and doesn't slow down much at all, very nice too. I'm still not that keen on the game, but at least I can play it properly now.

Painkiller is still better Much nicer fold-out colourful box too.

lmao, lol now that is scary ^^ had a break from coding now at administration lvl. Actually starting to enjoy it a bit, apart from magically appearing mobs due to triggers ... humbug (ed and still to easy) Think on the ammo front veteran mode provides loads mostly as mobs are throwing tons at your head. Cause on the minus side you have to seriously watch that health bar!

lol just before administration lvl, 3 fire demon thingys, come on if yah think ya ard enough. Okay i had to reload that bit but come on 3

Huh, if anyones in Delta Labs, the key code for the BFG-9000 is 931, it took me an hour standing infront of that office looking back and forth between my PDA and the numpad since the PDA said 901 and theres no friken 0.

Friend of mine mailed me this email

heres 2 links and explanation

www.forumplanet.com/plane...438663&p=1
www.gamingforums.com/show...ance+boost

here are some more tweaks, but heres the best post so ya dont gotta read through it all:

"Re: Doom 3 Ultra performance boost

ok i know how to make this work... read on people, youll be happy you did

In your DOOM 3 directory, find "DoomConfig.cfg" (x Program Files\Doom 3\base).
Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.

Find the lines:

seta image_cacheMegs "32" (May be "20" on some computers)
seta image_cacheMinK "(Not sure which number thats supposed to be here"
seta image_useCache "0"

anyway, change the settings to the following:

seta image_cacheMegs "xxx" (xxx - Half the number of you RAM, so if you have 512 mb RAM, you should put 256 here, 1024 - 512 etc..)
seta image_cacheMinK "20480"
seta image_useCache "1"

seta image_useCache "1" - This enables the memory cache tweak, if this is set to 0, it would be disabled, logically..

seta image_cacheMink "20480" - Im not 100% sure what this does, i think it has something to do with the minimum use of cache in Kilobytes... Anyway, i heard this is the number it should be on..

seta image_cacheMegs "xxx" - The amount of ram the program should use (In this case, Doom 3). I advise you only to set this number to the half of the total RAM you have, or it may take alot of CPU power and that will result in the occational 3 - 5 second lag when you open doors and stuff.

Now bow down to the master lol just kidding Enjoy

Oh and i advise you to make a backup of the .cfg file, im not sure which sideeffects may occure, but i havent seen anyone that is not pleased yet.
So i say again: Enjoy"

really works good too, im at 90fps up from 60

Wolvie__________________

heres 1 more i just found
Read bottom tweak about the Paks. Made my game 10x better. Take up an extra 4 gig though, lol.
www.sysopt.com/articles/Doom3Tweak/

For some of the people who are getting non playable frame rates this might help.
ps - haven't tried these yet myself but i probably will tonite just to see if theres any difference

I think for the sake of other users who haven't yet played it, please keep game related things such as keys, hints and gameplay stuff out of the post.

Last thing I'd personally want is someone spoiling things for me, I've been plodding through the game and I know I've missed alot of stuff... probably end up checking it when i replay but i would hate it if someone took away the point in finding the PDAs.

if you give out the codes some people will just not read the pda's and unfortunately without them you have no clue what is going on past your mission from your commander. That'll quite unfortunately ruin people experiences.

Would further like to add I'm surprised at how much better this engine is now. Been running this on below bottom curve system
(1GHz Celeron/512MB/FX5200) and the game is running at a fair old pace. Will see what these tweaks will do to the FPS, if it raises it well then will be helpful.

Its been very smooth on my FX5600 machine, and also on my Radeon 6800 laptop. The only difference between the two is the laptop has a very long loading time unfortunately.

I would like to know how backup power can run all those computers - you would have thought that any problems would automatically activate the lighting system and things like that.

Will I be able to run doom3?

P3 3.0Ghz HT(Processor)
GeForce FX 5200(Vider Card)
Creative! SB Live Series(Sound Card)
1024MB Ram(Ram)

Downloading 3DMark 03...

And I disable Norton Internet Security and Antivirus(They don't seem to do anything anymore and when antivirus catches a virus, it sais it can't delete it. The least it could do is find it in the ram and shut it down. And antivirus doesn't scan ram and takes about a couple hours to finish scanning.) I also don't use findfast.

More about Norton Antivirus:
There's no skip folder option(same with many antiviruses).
They should make it so that if you click on a folder name it's scanning, it prompts you to skip it.

It doesn't scan in alphabetical order(like XP's search)!
I never know when it's about to be done or how much it has scanned!

-Ilya
