Beer is a Canadian icon! We use beer all the time to drink, eat(frozen), even to shower in. Beer is a nessity of being canadian. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go sober up before beer time(Canadian for tea time(UK) or Shooting something time(US)).

It's amazing how much TV has raised us. (Bart Simpson)

yeah well ever wondered why people in england never get drunk until closing time? cos after zillions of years of drinking beer 90% of the time (cos there was no fresh water) we have grown a resistance, while other countries (e.g. Japan) boiled the water and drunk tea (btw tea is newer in UK than beer)

can i have those points now?

I remember hearing years ago that Russian alcoholics are told, in AA type sessions, to drink beer, as it's practically a kids drink and completely harmless compared to vodka etc.

And I would have to agree. Beer is fine, but only as a starter to the greater alcohol good.

I take it college has started again then?

lol @ Jimmy

Beer is good. When I went to the Cotswalds region in the U.K., I had a pint of Guiness from tap--- dayammmnnn... that's a bitter drink. Very good, though

Here in Canada I prefer Rickard's Red (sp?), Molson Canadian or Kokanee. For a treat I'll buy some imported stuff (Japanese beer called Kirin, or Mexican Corona). Since my wife doesn't like beer I'm usually stuck buying coolers (please don't tell the gang hehee)...

Yep, I used to drink the stuff for, erm, a few years, back in the day. Have a Guiness and black (blackcurrant), and it tastes like milkshake. Unfortuantly I can drink quite a lot of milkshakes. Bit like Vodka jelly.

Beer makes people cartoon characters funny, like Homer Simpson.

There was an episode of Family Guy where Peter could only play the piano well when he was liqoured up. Barney Gumble can drink a six pack of beer in 3 seconds.

Family Guy Dialogue:

Lois: Peter, you can only play the piano when your drunk!
Peter: That's not true, I can also be a jerk and make dirty calls to your sister when I'm drunk!

30 points please.

There is no importance to beer or any other alcoholic beverage. It can be ok if used responsibly but %90 of the time it is not. There is nothing worst than a drunk driver. They should pull them over and put 2 in their head. Do not play around with other people lives. For those of you who feel the need to drink please visit this site.
http://beeresponsible.com/
If you are old enough to make the decision to drink you should accept the consequences of getting too drunk to know when you are not able to drive safely. Next time you wake up not knowing how you got home just think of who you could have run over on this magical trip home. Sorry to be so harsh but I have had friends killed by drunk drivers. They get off with a slap of the wrist. "They didn't intentionaly do it." Bah. So go on and have your fun but PLEASE stay home. Thank you.

I took a Swede, a Belgian, a Dutchman and a Polish guy to the pub last week (no, it's not the start of a joke). They couldn't believe that that we drink one pint at dinner time, never mind a couple.

Quote: "I had a pint of Guiness from tap--- dayammmnnn... that's a bitter drink."

Bad choice of words - bitter is another type of beer in the UK, like Black Sheep or Old Mill. Guiness is stout. Yes, it may be bitter, but you need to find another word!

Quote: "There is nothing worst than a drunk driver"

Agree 100%, but this thread is about beer, not drink driving. That is a completely different topic, for a completely different mood.

Quote: "And having a pair of breasts constants at hand is not a positive quality?"

Mediochre minds think alike! My thoughts exactly. It follows the same theory as "I am a lesbian trapped in a man's body".

Cold tea is a good description for Guinness - I've only ever had 1 pint, but did'nt like it much. I like Newcastle Brown Ale, especially in a 1pt bottle, great for *standing-room-only* pubs, I hate spilling pints .

put 2 whats? Pints of beer? Don't you think he's had enough?

I have a theory:
Beer is not that important. The real important thing is Pie.
Allow me to explain.
When a human is hungry, he goes out gets his food at a store. But when he doesn't have the money for it, he stays hungry. If pie were something that grew on trees, or some kind of fungus, then no one would be hungry and all would be right with the world. If you had Pie growing at a good rate in your back yard, you wouldn't even need a job.

In conclusion:
A Pie in every dining room, and a Dreamcast in every living room!

LOL!

I must agree, a pie tree would be great, as long as it came with a ketchup shrubbery. Coders have different needs to normal people, we like food that can practically jump out the fridge and cook itself, ready meals, pies, pizza deliveries, what more do we need? (except beer).

I have a dreamcast - but it's not in the living room yet, I'm turning it into a mini arcade cabinet, DC's can run mame pretty well, older games like Wonderboy and Bubble Bobble at least.

Belgium doesn't make beer, neither does France, Holland or Denmark!!!

Europe stole the word beer and used it to describe lager. The closest you get on the continent is Germany's Weissbier, but they went too far and killed it.

I'm a lager drinker, Kronenbourg 1664 to be precise, so I thank Belgium for their contribution to society.

Well, ok, come to Belgium and ask to belgians what those names are :

Jupiler, Stella Artois, Hoegarden, Kriek, Westmalle, Duvel, Rodenbach, Palm, Passendale, Kasteel, Ciney, Chimay, Leffe, Val-Dieu, Maes, Rochefort, Quack, Orval, Judas, Chouffe, Belle-vue, ...

Rare are those who will say lager, beer will be the answer. Even on the bottles you can read the word beer. So, long live Belgian Beers.

I found this interesting posting on Slashdot yesterday:

Quote: "Researchers at the University of Western Ontario (Canada) recently found that beer has the same positive qualities that wine has previously been found to have. The media release quotes professor John Trevithick, 'We were very surprised one drink of beer or stout contributed an equal amount of antioxidant benefit as wine, especially since red wine contains about 20 times the amount of polyphenols as beer.'"
- Matt Clare

Here's the link--- http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/09/15/2150229&tid=134&tid=162&tid=146&tid=1&tid=14 interesting read.
