I will write up a thing for it soon and post it to give you all proper info on the games system, not that i have done any coding yet, bu tthe planning stage is set. for now look at the lovely models i made real quick,

more models to come, just looking for a texture for the bookshelf, the model is way done though my dad dropped round and i spent about an hour talkin to him instead of modelling. and these models arent the final thing, they are just for use in a test engine that hopefully will get going soon as we get some player models happening. and hopefully then someone with some skill will take interest and make some much better models. but for now, back to work for me.
it seems someone has beaten me to modelling the objects, and damn they have done a good job. http://homepages.wmich.edu/~akelts/3dart/wip/heroquest.htm

edit: wardrobe with two doors and bookshelf complete. will get pictures as soon as eric t wants me to send em, or i might just make a few more models then send as a zip first, edit2] just made a fireplace, not very good looking though.

ok thats wierd, the last message im gettin is exeats but someone else has posted after and i cant see it? i will try and refresh if this post doesnt fix it. and instead of modelling my own characters i downloaded some quake 2 models off poly count that i can use a stest models in the game, some nice goblin models there, and a knight model and skeleton etc. but im sure the full game wont eb able to use them for royalty reasons etc. but anyway i got some screens of the monsters too, need to get to work on animating them but i only have milkshape and that never works animations to dxf.

It was probably just a bug with moving threads from one forum to the other. Either that or the last post was deleted by another moderator.

Uberwigget, firstly good to see your diving into a project - good luck with it.

You should check out the 3D chat for the milkshape animation export settings - there's a sticky post in there.

P.S. There's pirates in this right?

o ok thankyou aura, and yes van b there wil be pirates, not sure wether i will make them playable or just some bad guys. anyway i just finished watching the burbs with tom hanks, been ages since i seen it, but it hasnt left me in a modelling mood, so i will prolly continue that later. But for now how bout I be extra nice and do a write up of my plan for the game. i will edit this post soon and add the text prolly in the code tag so i dont make a huge long post. well be back in an hour if i can sort out my thoughts and ideas quick enuff.

ok hope that works, im gonna take a quick break then im gonna get to work on some more planning of the abilities etc. then i will get back with more stuff.

Now i will finish working on the character abilities.

cant quite think of more at this moment, might add some more to the plans later. for now i think i will wait for responses.

Hey, be sure to grab the free dwarf model that someone posted a little while ago - he's the man!, damn quality bit of work.

How are you gonna construct the level? - just that the map editor I have for my compo entry would be pretty good at RPG buildings too, like you make prefab walls and add them like furniture. You have to make everything in a modeller, but it's a neat way to keep the frame rates up, because you can re-use a chest for example so you might only ever need to load 1 chest model.

that would be awesome van b, i was planning on just using a basic world editor to make a demo test, and yeah i think it was indi who gave out that dwarf model and i was planning on using it, with his permission. anyway two new screens that i wont paste, just the url to, but hey if you wanna help out van b that would be great, and i could really use that world editor if its stand alone, cause my dbpro trial period is outta time i think, but i'd love to play around with it till i get a full copy.

(ahh hell i'll post the images)

yes they are the same object just with different textures, and damn it was hard to find the snake logo from teh dice for the orc shield.

ahh i see, damn looks good, i dont have anything to put it in db but im gonna open it in ms 3d and check it out. anyway give us a yell when ur level editor is ready for a test run, so i can see if i cant make a redo of the original game board.

[edit] hey look shell of neat, um any idea how i can get rid of its animations and put in my own? im not to privvy on how to animate using milkshape, but i want to work on my own animations for this model.

Yeah, will do - one thing...

You should model your prefabs onto a grid, so the walls are a uniform size and scale - makes it much easier to put things together when you can rely on a grid. For example, you might have a little cell, which you could make as 1 object with all it's walls, roof, floor and door - then you would put a few of these together to form a long corridor of cells, and rotating them 180 degrees means they can go on the opposite side - so as you can imagine, these have to snap neatly together. Bits of wall and furniture is what you'll really need for the levels though.

yeah i gots the wall and furniture covered, if there is one thing i know how to make in milkshape, it sa wall, step 1. click block, step 2. drag out size of block, then use scale to get the right size in the other windows, step 3. texture oh and throw in a torchlight every now and then, adds some coolness. or if you want a 3d wall, make ssome vertexes, put sfaces on em, then adjoin two sides together with straight pieces, i made a nice rock wall for a lotr game i was workin on before my net went bye bye. but yeah i will start making walls now and get some screens for you all. oh i think i better go to the toilet first.

ok first wall done, i modified a texture and gave it an embossed look, makes it look like i bump mapped it a little, and it got me thinking when we are prettying up the game, mayhaps we could bump map some of the walls, if dbpro woul dallow it. anyway here is the render of the wall, two long by 1 wide on the grid. though i think i might take it to half a block wide cause it makes it look less chunky, but i might wait till its in game and i get the scales down.

[edit] yeah half thickness looks much better, but i will wait till i see how they look in game. also, her eis a torch to adourn that wall at some stage, no flames, i will wait till a particle engine for that.
(ps photobucket is the bomb)

ok nobody panic, the reason teh pictures arent working is because photobuket had some raid issues with on eof its drives, they lost the albums of a lot of people and are refunding those that paid. anyway when they get it fixed i will have to reload my entire album and then i will fix the links to the images if needed. But untill then i will do some more conept work and maybe some more models, though the concept art may be crap cause i dont have a scanner to draw by hand, and i cant draw too well on the computer. so i will see how i go. check back soon for updates.

nah thats ok eric, photobucket works fine, and i got about 10+ images there alreadywont take me long to re upload themwhen photobucket gets fixed, and i got a hold of some scans of the treasure cards, i've spiced em up a lil but they still look a lil dodgey, i might for the game get my own set and scan em in theway i want. but basically when a character searches an object it will randomly select a card from the deck and portray it on the screen to show you what you found, just as a nifty hero quest thing. more to come.

well photobucket is up again which is good, here is a few more images that i worked on, not sure what i will work on today, might try some more milkshaping.

that last one I didnt really work on, but its good for character concepts . I'm running out of ideas for things i can model in milkshape, might start on some weapons, or just look for a smalll world editor that i can put the objects in. of course i will still wait for van-b's cause anything he makes turns to gold

I have a few more door textures, and may eventually model theoriginal doors but i gotta get my scanner up to get those textures.

well by my sig its still going, its just on sort of hold till van -b finishes his business then we can have another look at it, but right now i wanna devote my time to this heroquest game, it will take a while to finish based on it being a pretty intense game, but it all depends on how many people chip in and how quick we can sort the stuff out. But the thing that scares people off is that it's a community made game, i want it open to the db community and therefore free to all of the db community, so people don't want to do much work during their time for not much reward, which is fair enough people here have their own games etc. But i again appeal to anyone who is interested to give suggestions help out when we get the code up etc.

mor eimages for you guys to digest, just finsihed this sword model, it's actually pretty hard to find a decent texture for a sword these days, how crazy.

frankly i think it's the best work i've done, and it is all made with simple geometric shapes, no need for vertices and faces anywhere, just used cube cylinder and sphere.

edit: the second sword i just built over the first one, made a few changes especially a hug eincrease in teh size of the blade and handle. made it into a claymore. looks nice to me, sorry bout it being bmp but jpeg loses a lil resolution.

thanks guys, an dyeah i know about the no code going, but hey hopefully when i get dbpro van b will have his world editor done and i can mix up a few rooms to run tests on. for now its just modelling and thinking how im gonna tackle the system. I'm not much of a coder so all i can do right at the moment is work on the logics of how it will work, eg weapons will be separate from the character model for collision detection purposes etc. But hey If anyone wants to start a basic system using my models just yell out and i can prep em for use with db. Or if you want to use them in your own game I can hand em out too.

ok sorry guys but i was away all yesterday, I just quickly whipped up the elf's weapons, didnt quite get it as smooth as I originally saw it but i think it's rather smashign anyway.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/uberwiggett/elfset.jpg

holy crudski, i just realized that the polycount was a straight 1000, cause i duped the swords, will halve it to just have one sword, but i think these weapons will just be used as a item select set, then i will model better ones or just have one for the game and make it appear twice, might help.
