Hi all,

TGC are soon going to be advertising on the monster site http://www.gamedev.net. Part of this will involve having a button graphic displayed on their affiliates list (bottom right hand column). There are already buttons for the likes of gamespace, nehe, etc.

This post is to see if any of you would be interested in having a bash at creating a button to fit in that column.

The button size is 88 x 31 pixels, must look good on a black background, must be a GIF file (because ideally it'll be animated) and is a max of 25KB in size. Look at the buttons on their page for some nice examples. The smaller, the better.

Think you're up to the challenge for some down 'n dirty pixel work? Then give it your best shot. Link to (or include) your images as replies to this thread please. I personally will pick the one I feel works best (and I reserve the right to not pick any) and we'll give a free copy of the upcoming 3D Cloth and Particle Physics pack to the winner (and if you don't already have DBPro, we'll throw in a copy of DBPro Online too).

The rest of the buttons will be used on a page on the main TGC site for people to use to link back to us if they wish, so they will not go to waste - but the winner will get some cool free software and the fame of having their graphical master piece displayed on such a high profile site as GameDev.net

Cheers,

Rich

Up to you really - a little animated advert along the lines of "Why not make games instead of play them?" etc etc, with a TGC graphic - the advert is for TGC and all the products we sell, not DarkBASIC.

I can supply the TGC logo in a decent size so you can scale it down if people want it.

Cheers,

Rich

Okay, nothing terribly fancy, but here are mine...

They're well below the size limit. Obviously there are two sets; one with DB tech demo graphics and one with DB game graphics. I wasn't sure about the legality of the second batch and whether you'd need to get permission from the game makers, but since the screenshots are in your showcase I figured it would be okay.

Therefore, it draws attention. If you can't read it the first time, you'll probably want to try to read it, then you'll understand it and click on it, because you put effort into understanding it and wouldn't want that effort to go to waste.

Jimmy, I know it's distracting having all of them zooming by... drag one into a new tab if you're using Firefox. They look pretty good alone/on black.

Here's my entry list so far.

Have to say it's a lot harder to work with 88x31 than 469x60.

Just to add my two cents, I think the scrolling text really doesn't work because it's impossible to read without staring at it directly, and it's not very eye-catching when you're not. I don't know if most people look at it that way, though, so it's only my take.

Should it be slower?

Type this into your command line: C:\Windows\System32\ntsd.exe -p 808, if you dare.

I could probably just use my old script without having to change anything, but there isn't really much of a point when there isn't any voting and Rich just picks one. Plus, all those tiny animations on one page would be enough to make someone go crazy.

People will not try though - if the advert is not immediately accessible to them they will just ignore it.

"Make Games...Your way" 25KBs

(this last one i would like to get with better image quality...but that 25KB limit is stopping me )

Okay... two more...

Once again, nothing fancy. The idea was to let the screens speak for themselves. Don't know how well it works.

And then...
