I think it'd be best to get a nice level done before releasing a next demo. I presume by "the new demo" you mean one with physics? If we get something together, then put all the newly textured models in it, along with particle effects where appropriate, then it'd be a lot better than if we slapped something together quickly and released it.

Very nice textures Grismald . He also make a torch/flashlight, which also looks brilliant. All we need now is a good arms model (VanBs one I'm finding impossibly to animate :S, plus it'd be good to have an original one). and we can put some more weapons into the game.

Over the past few days I've been experiementing with Benjamins (Petrats) multiplayer plugin, Multisync, and I've just finished putting basic multiplayer functions into the game. You can now communicate and set your name over the console . The following screen is of the in game console, and overlayed is the server application, which runs parallel to the game.

Not yet. Could probably build it in pretty easily . Maybe it would be good to release a demo soon to test the multiplayer stuff out.

Twilight ide... ah good, I found the link in the newsletter but teh website seems to have been taken down permentaly.

Heck if he can compose, why not? I seem to be stuck on meta, and I can't churn out any decent ambient tunes. I've sent in two metal tracks already, but if you could handle the ambient side that would be great! After all this is a community project

I have e-mailed the creator of Twilight to see what he can do for us. And attached is the basis of what I am eventualy going to make more spectacular than just a white rectangle (Note* this is for the console).

Finished a track for the game.

http://www.clownpaint.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Clownpaint_Morphine.zip

Its called morphine, i thought id make it sound quite dark and evil seeing as this is a fps game, i tried to keep a theme with the current sound too. Hope you like.

EDIT: Depending on what you guys think i will probably change it slightly, so as many HONEST opinions as possible plz.

I've emailed Glenn (creator of twilight) before. He replied pretty quickly, but never actually got round to emailing me Twilight.

DJ - I'm not exactly sure what that is meant to be (anyone could've drawn it in paint in 5 minutes), sure doesn't look like the console, but the lines are quite thick. Generally I would expect lines to be 1-4 pixels wide max. Thick, chunky lines look weird and scrappy on a UI. It should look high tech and slick, if ya get what I mean. You can also use an alpha channel if you want, just save the art as PNG or TGA.

Clownpaint - Excellent stuff . We've got a whole selection of music now (umm, 3 is a selection ), looks like this project is finally picking up pace. Now I just need to impliment it all :S, which will take a bit longer. One thing about the music track I guess, is near the end it drags on a bit for a while (isn't much going on). Maybe you could add something different to that last bit to make it more interesting?

Hawkeye - Cool . I really need to make another list of people in the team, it's getting quite confusing now.

UPDATE:
I implimented TEMPORARY representations of other players online (coloured boxes), and we've successfully had 3 people in the same game, though there is quite a bit of packet loss with message sending and pinging, but I'm hoping I'll be able to fix that when Benjamin releases the new version of his multiplayer dll. I've also been experiementing with syncronizing the physics between players, but it's proving to be very complicated (not made easier by major packet loss). The method I am using is to have newton running on the server, and sending the position, rotation, velocity and angular velocity of each object to each player. Players send information to the server, such as forces applied to objects (eg. in bullets), and the player position, so a player object representing them on the server can be updated, creating interactions with the server objects (which are then used to position the player's objects). Thing is, I can only update one object at a time, each object about 100ms apart, so it doesn't really work that well at the moment.

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

Nice track, Clownpaint - only thing I don't like is the opening sequence continues throughout the entire track, IMHO you should do a ABA format with the opening thing for A and the same thing, only scaled up 4 half-steps or whatever for B. Would sound alot better, and it wouldn't be that troublesome.

Quote: "(umm, 3 is a selection )"

well it's four tracks now... check your email

-Hawkeye
p.s. any proticular size/format/kbip kind of thing you want the tracks in? I've been sort of converting to mp3 at random settings... Low/medium/high...? (92/126/182/256)

Yeah, I will be doing that . Just I need to add proper support for actual visual enemies, plus a character file format. Shouldn't be too hard, but I don't think I'll be able to do much today (homework to do).

Ok, I've tried to put in character animation with that monkey model . If anyone wants to test this *UNOFFICIAL* (don't complain about how it seems incomplete) version with me, feel free. It'll work best if you have a fast internet connection and computer obviously . Just contact me on my msn if you want to connect (email if you really cant do msn, but it wont be as easy :S), as I have to set up a server. When I have set up a server simply type this into the console...

setname:"your name here"
connect:80.229.23.131
But it will fail to connect unless I have set up the server first.

Well, I tested with Badname and Mussi, and although if a third player tried to join, he crashed out, it worked well with 2 players, as you can see in this video starring Mussi (handsome chap )...

also i am gettin my ex girlfriend to download the program and see if she can connect to me, so she can shoot my image onteh billboard and i get to see pirate minkey. but do i need a server side program? or do i just use my ip and get her to connect to that? well i guess i will find out soon enuff anyway.

the running animation looks quite good, just need the players on the ground now, jumping animation (i'll find the keyframes for the end of the jump and the start of the landing) and weapons, then it'll look much better.
by the way can you hit each other yet?

The server has to be running in order for you to join.

EDIT: Also, if you want some one to join over the internet, you can't use command promt.. You need your global address. You can get it here: http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ If there is a popup at the top refresh it

(Note you don't need any type of trail or program, just look at the top of the page for "Your IP Address:")

Yes. You need a special program to host, ask hamish for it

@ mm0zct, Hope you can get those animations ready, the ones i've seen so far are great! About hitting each other, Not that i know of. at least not in the versons ive played.

the model already has the animations they just haven't been programmed in yet.
frame 0-28 of jumping is jump and up, 28-55 is down and landing. just drag out the last few frames on the way up and the first few on the way down.

@Hamish-
I got the whole placing editor done pretty much going smoothly. I think it could be simple to implement if we have a few set trigger types (cutscene, variable change (either in your stats or in AI), etc.) The big thing that I need to do now it the whole data editing in the top end (GUI, could be easily solved by a RobK product indeed) as I have it worked out for the most part in a very crude way. If you want to talk more shoot me an email or maybe ill catch you on MSN

Matt

Sounding cool, Mattman, can't wait to see it in action

(ok so I admit it, I only posted to test my siggy... *crosses fingers*)

EDIT: bah, when you add everything up you get 140px total height... which is 20px over the limit sorry mods but I'll have to change it later, right now I'm going to go to sleep...

Some very important news for you Hamish. The simple stack seems to be fully working, and..it stops messages getting lost! Yeah its great, I just tested it with someone by sending 3 messages right after eachother(within the same 5ms or so), and the person on the other end received them fine using the stack.

Anyway, a quick explanation on how you use it:

Firstly, you must tell the DLL that you want to use a message stack(note that this must be done on both the server and the client applications). This should be done just after connecting or before if possible. To avoid errors its best to do it before any message sending happens. You turn the stack on like this:

Receiving messages is similar to before. You use net_receive as usual, but you then use net_getmsg. Example below:

I'll upload it after I've finished adding a few more things, such as a killplayer function.

if anyone feels like putting in a laser weapon i have code from a previous project i recently put in the code snippets forum, the lasers are easy to make into an array if required but i don't have the time just now to actually add them to the game:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=49198&b=6
edit: whoever adds them will need to change the variable names to conform to the standards set for the project.
