Ok, I'm uploading a new exe, your computer doesn't seem to support 1152 by 864 resolution. I've put in something to check 3 different resolutions (that one, 1024 and 800).

Download the file again in about 15 mins, it should be uploaded by then.

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

Yeah, I think I know the problem. Unfortunately the other PC has been taken over for the night, so you'll have to wait till tomorrow for a fix . Sorry.

On another note, I've fixed up physics, levels, characters, players and character animations in the new code. It's all a lot more concise with less redundant code. I've also been playing around with the camera in 3rd person view, knocking a bunch of other character models around like pucks on an ice rink (low friction for player models ). Looks quite funny.

OK, try again. I'm fairly sure I've fixed it now as there are NO absolute paths anywhere in my code. So you'd think it would work on any directory structure. Just don't try and load existing levels. Existing phob files should be fine though.

Hey megaton. You had any chance to experiment? Once you've made a level I'd be really keen if you could send it my way for a look .

Hmm well I tried te editor. I loaded a sample level included but I didn't know how to try it out in the game.

How do I load in my current level+lightmap? It's .x format.

(Sorry for the noobiness )

You have to create a new phob file. There is a tool in the editor to set all the settings for the file, including a gap to put the path of the level.

All the physics objects (barrels, crates, levels etc) have their individual file, with their mass and inertia and type and 3d model and everything. I made it so they are built around the 3d model.

Put the actual .x file and textures in a sub folder within the level editor like I did with the other levels. Then you'll have to copy that subfolder into the "Level Editor" folder that comes with the fps game. Then edit the config.txt file within the data folder of the game, so itloads your level instead.

You should also be able to figure out how to make your own physics objects that fly around when you shoot them . Keep in mind that level objects should have 0 mass, as that makes them static. Also level models want to be "tree" objects, which is basically polygon perfect collision. Other objects like crates should be boxes, or cylinders, or even convex hulls (though the inertia may need to be tweeked with them). The phob files are updated as you change the values in the editor, so don't worry about saving them, it's all done automatically. If you change a phob files mass, all the levels which the object is used in will also be affected, since the level files just reference the object files.

Once you've made and object, simply click on the grid or another object to place it. All the controls I posted earlier in this thread, right mouse click to rotate camera, scroll button or shift+rmb to zoom the camera. You'll need to zoom out to start with since the camera starts at the origin (0,0,0).

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

Hey guys, as some of you know (peaple on my msn list) i was at a place last night called "The CampGrounds" i was there to play basket ball and volley ball, on the way there i you just about lost another TGC Member, my bother was driving in a suberu (my parents car) while we where taking a turn, the road had been redone and the pavement was about 6 inches of the ground well we took the turn at 50mph (we where suppose to be at the campgrounds in 5 minutes) and my brother thought some of the other drivers where in a bit our lane, so he went to the right of the road forgeting that theres a 6inch dropoff so off the road we go cliping a dozen tree limps, he over corrected his turn (getting back on the road) and began a not so nice slide towards about 4/5 on coming cars, not cool right? well the breaks locked up and we where about 7 feet from the oncoming car, lucky for us the driver leading the bunch of cars slow'd down as we go off into the ditch i must say that i have no idea how our car slow'd from 50mph down to 15 within 3 seconds maybe it was the slide and the breaks but what ever it was it saved out lives. luckly for us there was a jeep with a rope and a man pulled us out.

heres somthing for an idea

You got that right!

Yeah the only thing that was broken was a fog light. i remember thinking right before we took the turn "Arn't we going a little fast?"

Well at least i can say that im never taking that turn 50mph, and neither will my brother. The funny thing is the break was never pushed while we where off the road, right when we got on the road is when it was push (becaus of the over correction of the turn)

i must admit that i felt like an idiot with the back of the car sticking out covering allmost half of the road.

Ag

Please accept my apologies for not reply/doing anything for so long.

My life just escalated another notch down hill as of 4 days ago when my god damn video card screwed itself over. This cuts of my access to the PC for about a month untill I get my paycheck and buy a new Radeon. Trust me, I'm more pissed of about it than you, seeing as that Radeon 9200 was a mere 2 years old and now it's in hell.

Thankfully I back up my files several weeks ago. Problem is the level is not lightmapped (the backed one). So this means I now have to get a temp replacement card, boot up my PC and retrieve the (completed) file OR go to a friend's house and lightmap it there (Which would involve alot of CD-swapping & some boot-legging)

Either way, I'll try to see what I can do.

Really sorry about all this.
I'll stay in touch via forum or email untill further notice.

I hate me.

EDIT: Well I'm not a big hardware guru but would it be possible to remove that HDD and somehow get it working with my Mother's Dell?

(Shame I don't have on-board video or a way to get the PC running without the card...

Hard luck, seems everyone around here is having nothing but success with their computers . Are your backups on a CD? In which case I'd be happy just to have a look at the un-lightmapped level if it's possible.

I should think it'd be possible to use your harddrive in a different computer. I don't want to risk you losing all your files though, so you'd better ask in some place more suited to that kind of thing .

there should be no problems putting the hdd in another computer (just make sure you boot from the original one). i have an ide to usb(2.0) adapter which makes connecting a hard disk to another pc very easy. the only problems may be if the file s on your desktop/in your documents and you are using xp, windows may have locked access to the files.
ps. you could get a really cheap gfx card off the internet in the meantime.

Np, any chance of getting that level?

I'm still working behind the scenes on this, I'm going slow cos I'm having some troubles with the network stuff.

mm0zct - Any chance you could send me another version of that monkey model, boned, but with no animation data? I need it because it takes too long to load all the animation data for each character. Thanks.

Well, the main being that the connections seem tempermental. I can always create a server and the client can always join, but sometimes the host doesn't seem to receive the message that a new player has joined. If the host does get the message, then initial messages seem to sometimes get lost. Most of the time, if the messages don't arrive, all of them don't arrive, although it has happened that the messages partially arrive. Also, as far as I can tell, when a player leaves, the slot doesn't become available again for other players to join.

This is all within the LAN, infact, it's on the same computer, so there really shouldn't be any data loss. It could be my faulty programming, don't get me wrong, but I really can't see any error in my code, and it's on and off.

Well, I like the detail with the screws and rivets, very nice. Maybe a little more shading on the barrel/stock? That flat grey is a little boring looking. Looking great tho

Hamish--I'm about 2-3 days work off from completing another track This time it's a colab with a friend of mine, he provides progressions/baseline/etc. and I put it together. One question tho--we're thinking about posting it on some places like http://www.ctgmusic.com and http://www.modplug.com since it's a pretty decent (i.e. non-repetive) metal track. I don't proticulary care if you use it or not, but how do you want me to say "yeah it's ok, cool even, that hamish is using this"? And finally, did you get the last track I sent you, Midnight Sea, or did is some guy in Isral scratching his head?

Professor--what happened to that level sketch that I sent you? you worked on it for a while but then you lost it in your hd crash.. are you going to try working on it again or do you want me to take a shot at it?

In the meantime... this project is really starting to look good everybody This thing really is cool.. and now we have an answer to those blitz spazuhs's "Project Plasma" (that was their comunity project) The only reason it is like it is is because of this great comnunity here Hamish and CPU, for doing the brunt of the project (the code), Professor with model/level (?) providing, Grismald for his kick-arse textures, Ben with his (soon to be) kick-arse level, and of course little me with his (hopefuly) kick-arse music And don't forget all the people who contributed the smaller and less obious things, like Clownpaint (donated a ambient track) and Stevie (Isolate :o )

(You know, sometimes I impress even myself with my eloquence )

Extremely nice Grismald. Your textures and Prof's meshes look sooooo good together. All we need now is a pair of arms (a final pair) and we can get down to animating the guns and adding them in properly. I think I'll lay off the network for a bit, and try to get some bulk of the engine finalised and polished.

Sorry I didn't reply Hawkeye, I thought I did, I'm not very good at remembering things . Twas a great track as ever, sounded quite futuristic actually.

That's an okay lightmapper but I find Gile[s] still to be better.

Anyway, while I solve my er...dilema, I have an idea on how to make myself not completly useless.

I was thinking of starting a site dedicated to this project and the community behind it. I relize we already have prodigy games but the site is nearly all empty. What I was hoping to do is create something that features daily news (updated by me everyday from school PCs ), game info, progress images, and the usual documents, downloads, guidelines etc, and a page all about the people working on the game. It'll also showcase all the work for people to easly see without having to browse the 17 pages on this thread...

Anyway, if you give permission Hamish, I'll get started on the design...

EDIT: Oh and we're also definatly going to need a game name...

DJ - Give the image to me in full, and I can slice it up . Alpha transparency is up to you. If you think it'd improve it, go ahead.

Megaton - I'm not sure who voluteered last time to do the site, but please go ahead. The prodigy games site didn't cost me much, and you can use the webspace if you want. It has pretty much unlimited everything . If we decide on a project name, then we can get a new domain and I'll try and get it fixed up. I'm not sure what your experience is in terms of website design, but if I could upload the latest images and stuff to be displayed, it'd be good. I'm not sure if somehow you can automatically fill a page with images .

P.s. I have been trying out those guns in game, and they look very nice. We really do need a pair of arms though, so we can put them in for good.

I'll be looking at CPUs music module soon, and try and get your music in Hawkeye. I have it all over the place, so I may need you to list all your tracks so far so I can check I have them all .

Not sure what you mean by that . I was planning to hunt for all the images on this thread to use. Anyway don't worry, I can handle it.

And you mentioned you have webspace? Thank god, I've had enough of freewebs till atleast 2009.

Anyway, I've already started the design at lunch, and hopefully I might finish it today. If not tommoro. I'll keep you informed.

Thanks

EDIT: And the reason I needed a name is to fill up the blank header on top of the site...I'll make a silly placeholder untill we think of one.

Quote: " That's an okay lightmapper but I find Gile[s] still to be better."

Well if you have Gile[s] then use it But for the rest of us who don't have deep enough pockets..

ok, my music stuff...

-Metal Falling
-Iron Fire - I don't think I sent this one in, but I have it in a reasonably finished state
-Midnight Sea (the cool si-fi one )
-Gorehammer
-Chilled Sorrow
x-Smoke - but I don't want this one in, cause it was my first attempt at ambient and IT SUCKS

I'm seriously thinking about remixing the shorter ones, they kinda suck too. Gorehammer, MidnightSea, and Iron Fire leave in tho (Midnight Sea I'm really proud of )

WIPs:
Sick on Thursday (guess how I came up with that title )
--{I have most of the track written, I just have to 'finish' it, i.e. duplicate some parts, polish off the baseline, etc. which means finding time.. it has a really cool sounding intro, and I have a definate image of how it should loop
untitled metal :/
--some nice progressions, I'll probally combine this with SickOnThursday
co-laberation metal track with my friend Walid
--pretty cool sounding, but not intended for a game.. it's more of a alternative metal than a game/heavy metal

ehhhhh... I think that's it Some ideas I have before I post this:
1) Having just finished viewing to the 'i like knife' and 'knife-aholic' soldat movies, I've gotten some nifteh ideas for music based on the vid's music. number one idea is this sorta scream riff thing.. ooooWAHHHHHHooWAHdaWAHHHHHdaWAHooWAHHHHhHhhhhhhhh... like a heavy analouge pad in a dance track, only with destortion guitars in a heavy metal riff instead
2) also based on those vids.. coming up with a basic (and heavy in the base ) pattern and fitting vocals around it.. I'm thinking about trying out the vocaliser in Fruty Loops Studio 5 for this.. should be an interesting excerise, and with any luck it'll sound cool too
3) some sort of heavy pad-based dance/trance for menu music or maybe credits screen or something.. I have a few ideas, but nothing serious. probally won't happen but I'm thinking about it anyways.. Besides, I gotta make some dancefloor tracks SOMETIME--you can't create computer based music without at least trying it!

OK that's it for now.. just give me the word and I'll send over a big RAR with all my stuff. One question tho--at what bitrate to you want the mp3s? I've been using 96k, as that seems to be a good balance, but hey you're team leader Oh yeah and don't forget clownpaint's ambient track, morphine.. that was pretty cool.

Alright that's it.. I promise!

I was the one that offered but it never really took off so for now, it's off the server. If I get enough requests to bring it back, i'll upload it again.

i have a php script i wrote to display images using a text file containing urls and i have an upload script that could be used to easily upload images.
if you want i could integrate them so that any images uploaded are automatically added to the text file and another php file is used to display the list of images.

unfortunately my server is currently down so i can't demonstrate.

Were you talking to me? If so, I could send you all of the HTML files that you need to do the afore mentioned.

Sort out website stuff between yourselves . I don't know what's going on with it. Thanks for the php code, maybe megaton can figure it out, or I can have a stab at it if you want.

Here is a screen of the sniper in game, in a level that I have been very slowly working on (for a change in scene from coding). What you see is about all there is so far .

Sure thing Megaton, send it my way and I'll upload it no probs.

More tea Vicar?
