Awesome site!
One thing that i can think of:

Only have the "Enter your news in the form below:" for peaple who are singed in.. or have it as a seperate page.

Just some ideas. Its awesome to have a gun you modeled up on such a great site! Keep up the good work!

gallery sections are now up and running (or they should be, not tested yet) same pasword as before for them so please fill up the empty screenshots/models/level design pages with the old imaegs if anyone has them still

Prof - I don't really know about the Blackout sign on the machine, it would look a bit odd in-game I think. How about the Pirate Soda that RobX made a while ago . That'd look good pasted on the front.

Megaton/mm0zct - Very nice website, big improvement on the last version . I can't wait for the upload stuff to be completed . Maybe you could also add a "Misc" bit onto the list, for extra stuff not included in the other sections.

Also, with the 3D models and music and stuff, I think it'd be a good idea to have more than a screenshot. Like on the front page of this thread, it could have a name, artist/s, screenshot as before, and then a download link for the media.

Ideally it'd be cool to be able to edit each entry to update progress. Like, if you're logged in (if that functionality is going to be included), then you can click on an edit button by the entry, and re-upload all the data, maybe even having a "Media State Field", where you can choose from "Done","WIP","Needs Texturing", etc like on the front of the thread. I'm not sure how far mm0czt's php skills stretch, but that would be supremely cool .

good idea, i'll change the system to use the mysql database instead of a text file to hold the image url's making it easy to edit on a user level (eg a permission system)
migh as well make the news system editable too, it already uses mysql so it should be quite easy

Cool. My concept attached. It's a crap visual design, but it gets across what I mean at least (apart from I forgot the EDIT button , oh well, this person obviously isn't logged in ). I don't know if you'd want to sub-catagorise the 3D models in case the number grew very large (eg. weapons, furniture, outdoor misc, indoor misc, etc). I'm just throwing suggestions here as I think of them.

Ok, I have not been here in a while, but after I try something with a program I have, I think I can make pretty decent models, so, I'll try it, and see if it works.

Heyhey, here's a shotgun I just made, in 45 minutes or so, I'm getting the hang of this UVing and texturing starts monday. Polycount is around the 1000 I think.. enough talk:

I'm at my dads for the weekend, so I'll design the freeze-gun, and maybe some other weapon too

BTW: This is a online Multiplayer shoot-m-up right? I was wondering how far you've got the multiplayer code working. Can you see eachother walk around etc already??

At the moment it is possible to see each other walking around, but that's about it. I have got bullet messages working but not implimented. The next major step would be to get physics working in multiplayer. I will put some time aside to work on multiplayer, as I think I've got the basics sorted now.

Just to keep everyone updated, at the moment I am working on different materials giving off different particle effects when shot. So wood could splinter, concrete could give off a cloud of debris and grass could spurt out grass . Earlier I was improving the new explosion effect I've been working on. Still need to optimise the physics part of it.

Where the banner should go? I dunno, just slap it across the top or the bottom, or edit it to fit the whole thing in. It doesn't really matter, it's up to you .

EDIT

Hey hey, got the particles thing working. The barrels (being made of metal) now make an explosion effect it a bullet hits them , whereas the level (being made of wood ) still let of grey dust and debris.

holy crap balls, that looks sweet, what happens when you re shoot the barrels? do they move to a lesser extent after theyve been exploded? maybe you could be ambitios and replace the mesh with one of a crunched up barrel, and maybe some fire could come off the barrel for a while?

and i love the dust that comes off the objects make it seem very pleasing to know the bullets are doing destruction rather than a bullet hole just magically apparing there .

Nah, the barrels aren't actually exploding. It's exactly the same code as the debris effect, just it's loading in a particle effect that looks like an explosion instead of a shower of dust. I've happen to have been thinking exactly the same things as you just said . Problem with implimenting it is that I want to make everything as flexable as possible through text file editing. I ought to make it possible for the objects to split into several when destroyed (think having all sides of a crate exploding outwards). Doing this with Newton joints would be kind of inefficient and hard on the CPU, and also might look dodgy. I think what I'll do is have a string value that lists all the indexes to the objects that are part of the damaged object and their offset and rotation relative to the original object. It should work and could be pretty impressive .

I suppose I could do the fire thing by having a particle emitter attached to the objects, and have a timer gradually fading the effect to nothing. Speaking of that, I haven't actually used the particle emitter system that I wrote yet .

Probably won't get this all done today, but hey .

Hamish, i know you've not in need of a glock, but i make one for ya. it has seperated mesh of the top and the bottom. if you want it, say it.

EDIT: btw, in the texture and the model the glow is not there.

Hello Everyone

Glad some people liked the new site. I hope (and intend) to keep this one updated regularly instead of letting in dehydrate like the previous one.

I will begin adding non-php required content to the pages and fill em up. (Features, about, info, guidelines, team page, etc) Would be good if someone can host our current demo so I can post up the download link. Also can Hawkeye post the full soundtrack he's done for the game so I can add it o the Music section? Thanks

There's no need for seperate weapons, furniture, outdoor misc, indoor misc, etc sections because it will simply be more time consuming. Rather, we should have all current models on one page in the style Hamish created, in the same way so people can easly browse all models.

That new video with the poping barrels was awsome btw Hamish. That reminds me, when we get this content uploading system going, I'll upload my latest level.

I'll also get busy modelling (and texturing) misc objects, which seems to be the curret trend at the moment.

p.s A glowing glock??? I'm likin' this powerup.

EDIT: Just noticed first page of th thread updated with lots of goodies. Will make good additions to site.

EDIT 2: Chris, was wondering if I could some sort of access to your server? I need to update the pages. Email me.

EDIT 3: Nevermind Hawkeye. Found full game soundtrack on front page.

I just recently made the transition to a new laptop, and so am quite busy getting all of my "stuff" over to this. Doesn't help that I have 3.57 gigs in my music folder alone, that's not even counting dbp (1.67 gigs), my 150 meg collection of flash games/movies, etc. etc. And my flash drive thingee only has space for ~400 megs So I may be lagging a bit on my duties.

Anyhow, I'll see if I can't get started on transfering all the modules I have stored strightaway. (that's only 1.6 gigs ) Fourtaintly my stuff for Blackout is only on the order of 40 megs so that'll be over on the first trip.

Cheers

I beleive Mitchell is texturing the shotgun himself . The glock looks good from what I can see, but if it's going to be in the game, you need to send it to me/post it up here.

Website Guys - Everything sounds good to me.

Heh, Sunday afternoons at the bookstore are sooo useful Phantom and Smokey Ruins are now equipped with new wings, aren't fully tested yet tho' so keep you shirtz0rz on. Also some untitled thing I tossed together that doesn't really fit into a genre. See attachment for a wip of teh untitled, other stuff is on my lappy (I'm writing from my pc, it 's getting to be too much trouble fiddleing around with the cables switching access to the net)

warning: bitrate 'tis only 64k. Will undoubtly cause ear herrorage. Stay alert. Cotton balls are reccomended.

Need higher res image to see more. The shade of the pump bit looks quite odd.

I've spent a long time trying to figure out why my breakable object code screws over the object loading code, and can't figure it out, so I'm going to give up for now.

Hi guys

I finished the website content a long while ago, but I guess Chris didn't have time to upload the new pages I sent him yet. I'll have to put of that update till tommorow. In the meantime, here's a new level I'm working on. Sort sort of temple/ruins.

More screens tommorow.

Very sexy indeed . Can't wait to get the finished thing .

Mitchell - Any progress on the shotgun. I promise I will give more crit if you post a higher res screenie . Just I couldn't see much from that one.

And I now have exploding, and breakable (both separate, but they can be combined) working, and it's looking rather snazzy . I'll post a video once I get the problem sorted out with loading larger levels (it seems Newton doesn't like lots of objects spawning in the same place. I think that's causing the exe to crash right out).
