@megaton level looks great few points though shouldent the fallen bricks be moveable objects ingame? and removing the polys that arent visible from inside the map would give a good speed boost.

@hamish will this game be like cs online and everything?

Looks good, i was wondering if you could merge that level with your old one, make this new one a basment or somthing... Also it looks pretty modern to be a temple ruins more like WW2

Anyway, Keep up the good work!!

@Megaton: Looks pretty good, though you might wanna try making a texture that you would see in a temple, rather than something you would see in a factory.

It's not going to be like cs online . Not unless everyone wants it to be, but I'd rather make an original game rather than a copy.

Can I help with anything?

Preferably code-side. Maybe I could try and fix that crash-out bug you were talking about? I've got some experience with Newton...

Hey Chris K. Having another coder would be good , although I've never actually had any experience working as a team in coding, so it could be interesting . Although I'm positive the crashing is directly related to Newton (large numbers of bodies spawning in same place), I'm fairly sure the cause is down to my coding. I know I'm calling a function to randomize the posititons of the objects, and I know it's executing the code, just the objects seem to be repositioned right afterwards. This was a problem before with a different set of objects, and was actually due to a typo (using the wrong variable), so it may be a typo again.

However, another coder could certainly have the potential to speed up, neaten up and improve the general coding. The code is modular enough to be able to assign different jobs, and then be able to stitch them together. Send me an email Chris, and I'll get the code over to you and try and get things rolling (if you're interested). We'll probably start off by getting coordinated, and you understanding the code and coding style (I made it up to make the project more understandable). I am sure my code is nowhere near perfect, so feel free to criticise and suggest changes to make . You may feel some bits are slap dash and need to be neatened up/thought over, and I would probably agree, I just haven't really had the patience and time to neaten them up, but I think overall my code is fairly organised. If you can do some coding, I would feel far more comfortable if you could suggest things to change/do rather than waiting for me to prompt you (although I'll do my best ).

In the end, do as little or as much as you can/want to do. I'm not bothered, I'd just be glad for someone else to be doing some of the coding job as well .

Heyhey. I'm working on some objects and textures while designing my first actual level. This time I'm working it out on paper before I start. The tree came out nice, concidering it's 23 polies. I'm not happy with the other textures yet. Which I could texture like megaton cat The textures in that level are great! Anyway, here's a small scene showing what I have so far:

OK. Awesome. First time team-coding too. Should be good. We'll just have to comment and indent it to death.

I've emailed you.

Hello again

Main site is uploaded.

http://cgi.lochviewwest.plus.com/design1/

Thanks for the comments on the level.

Quote: "@megaton level looks great few points though shouldent the fallen bricks be moveable objects ingame? and removing the polys that arent visible from inside the map would give a good speed boost."

That is simply a collapsed stair-case. Really no point to make it physics based, since it's already broken.

And yes, I should have been more clear about the level. Like Banjo said, it's more of a burned out factory/old crusty building then a temple. My levels don't make sense, so I honestly don't know.

I might put my new sunlight-mapping methods to use and create an outdoor level. Have to make the prefabs for that first though.

It's great to have another coder on the team. I dunno how Hamish has been doing it all this time, maybe he'll tell you some of his Monk-Coding secrets.

And yes, remember that first Storage Facility type level I made? I decided to recycle those textures and create a full game-friendly level. So much to do, so little brain cells.

EDIT: What are the chances of us getting a new domain name Hamish?

Chris K - I'm sending you da codes. Be good if you could log onto MSN too.

Megaton - Gdgd, I can get a new domain now if you want. It's fairly cheap. Are you hosting the content for good?

hey, really nice website megaton! Though I was wondering, whats the deal with the password etc? And I am working on media for this game too, why aren't I in the team list?

Anyway, I really like where this game is heading!! I have this vision, when the game is done, the whole DarkBasic community is going to team up or go lonesome, and there's gonne be some heavy gaming for a couple of weeks Bitchin multiplayer battles, I predict.

Lol Mitchell . It's a nice thought, but first we need to make this "Engine" into a "Game" . There aren't actually any game aspects in there at the moment to be honest.

If we want a domain, it's going to be .co.uk (a lot cheaper than other domains), unless anyone else wants to pay .

So what's it to be. My suggestions (blackout is obviously taken for all situations )...

blackoutfps
blackoutgame
tehblackout
tehblackoutgame
blackoutdbpro

etc...

Hamish: I'm not the one hosting, Chris is. I have to send him whatever I want uploaded first so he an do it. (His idea)

But a short blackout.com would be very nice.

I would be the guy running around pwning everyone, and making dozens of people quit in frustration.

But anyway, you aren't on the list because you joined fairly recently, and the list on the site is an old one. I'll add you up to it.

p.s What's gdgd?

I'm not paying for a .com domain (about 3 or 4 times the price of .uk domains). Plus blackout.anything is already taken . Unless anyone else wants to pay ~£17.50 more for a domain name, then I suggest we stick with .co.uk.

If you can find .co.uk for cheaper, then sure.
I think we should go with Blackoutgame.

EDIT: .com domains are only $5.99
How much for co.uk?

EDIT2:

£1.99 for a co.uk. Pretty good I guess.

It says £8.89 for any non-uk domains. You may have been looking at hosting-included packages.

my msn's at the bottom of this post but if you are too lazy to hover your mouse over it:
the_cartographer<at>hotmail.com

by the way the site content is updated, still not got the upload scripts done, school startes soon and the cruel teachers gave us homework.

hamish since you've found your own webspace it'd be great if you could upload all the gun models for me to start working on the hand animations, this will also allow me to standardise the scale of the weapons . if anyone wants left handed versions too then speak up now while i'm doing it.

also anyone not on the team list or who wants contact details adding to the site them my email is the same as my msn.

Quite good Ian, certainly be using that , but I'm a bit puzzled about the poly count. I can only count 32 tris in that model. (12 for the main box, then 10 for each foot).

Good news is that I've fixed the stupid mistake I made in the code. Was loading the debris objects twice (stumped me for a while, and then it hit me, as these things always do). Bad news (well, kind of), is that I'm off to Spain and France for the next fortnight to bathe in sunshine by the side of a pool, so you won't hear from me as of Saturday .

One thing to say, there is no need to stop working on the project because I'm not directing. I don't even want to consider myself project leader really, I'd rather everyone had an equal say in everything. Unfortunately things sometimes fall to pieces if you try that, but still, there is definitely no need for the project to come to a halt. Expecting to see a finished game when I get back .

I got two different poly counts from two different apps, max said it had 32 but when i loaded it up in deep exploration it said it had 52, so i just used the highest

I'm glad you'll be using it
