Hmm, that's possibly the kind of thing we're wanting, although less chunky, more slick. We're not specifically looking for a complicated gadget type HUD, just some slick lines and stuff.

A slightly longer video with improved masses and character physics. Though I get a weird juddering of all the objects when the frame rate gets too low. It may be due to the highly stacked objects, but I still don't see any reason my they should all judder (including the character object). Unfortunately the physics don't work perfectly when you do bullet time stuff, but I'll try and fix it.

http://www.prodigygames.co.uk/content/videos/physicsVideo2.avi (5mb, 1 min long)

List o' Things To do (In rough order of importantness)
- Generally neaten up physics code (done)
- Limit time based movement to a certain frame rate (to stop player jumping 5 miles off the map if the game freezes for a few seconds)
- Get musak module working
- Get decals sticking to objects
- Add little yellow bullet thingys to make shooting look nicer (done)
- Get energy weapons working again
- Add bouncing projectiles (eg. grenades)
- Fix up player movement at any speed (kinda done)
- Get a better, full level
- Get HUD up
- Add joints support for Newton
- Add secondary fire

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

Looks nice. I love the new physics, but without lighting the level looks a little drab. Any plans to get the level lightmapped, or will that not be possible?

Yeah sure. Lightmapping will be possible, if someone does it in Giles or something. The level will probably be assembled in bits, from objects. The previous grid based system seemed to complicate things, so I think we're just going with placing objects wherever you want . And that level is just a test level btw.

CPU - Yeah, I looked at it, but couldn't impliment it yet, as I can't add any more modules with Twilight. I emailed Glenn, and he said he'd upload a new version, but he doesn't seem to have. I'll email him again soon.

DJ - Ok, well, it'd probably help if you uploaded it .

That'd be really good if you could . Can you wait until some part of the level are done and still be available? I'm wondering whether trying to do an outside paintball arena first thing was a bit ambitious. I think if we did a smaller, mostly indoor level, it'd be more realistic in terms of modelling. You can lightmap the test level if you wanted , not a requirement though, since in the end it'll just be scrapped.

Any ideas for a first level anyone?

I can lightmap any time ... there are no seals of quality here though. I'm not a pro-lightmapper, I just bought gile[s]. I'll gladly lightmap the first level even if it's just to give you a taste of what the finished product will look like

I think I can sketch one up if you want. Or I can think of something for you guys to draw (if thats what you do before you guys model).

Heh, yeah, I appreciate people trying, but sometimes putting a couple of boxes slapped together with a texture from ms paint, kind of looks out of place in a game, no matter how much effort the person put into it (not based on any real life incidents ). Sometimes you have to know what you're good at, and what you aren't so good at, and be able to realise that yourself.

Anyway, you said the plan for the HUD was almost done, so I presumed you already had some sketches (or am I getting the wrong end of the stick here?).

Adr - Will attach level, but file attachments don't seem to be working at the moment .

After what happened with the HUD beofre, Naturally I scrapped it. Then I drew a sketch up on paper and thought to my self "Hey, that looks nice, i'll do that!" so now I have it officialy on paper. Will start when I get back from school.

[edit] Ok. I started the creation of it.

DJ - I'll ask Mussi if he's still interested. He got half way there and didn't complete the plugin as far as I can tell.
I don't know where to get Twilight at the moment, sorry.

Enders - Not at the moment, it's hardly a finished product, I don't want to release it for use in other peoples games until it's got decent enough features, and has the right documents (so I don't get bombarded with emails).

Badname - Thanks, and I'm looking forward to it .

Ok, maybe I should start making some proper documents, then we can sort out what anyone can do if they want. I can't think straight at the moment, the music module was good because it is totally separate to everything else, but I can't think of anything else like that. Here is the test level adr, for some reason apollo didn't like it.

BlueIDE won't make a difference here. Since this is open source, we can't use commands that arent... well, free

Zero zero zero , surely you know by now the difference between BlueIDE and BlueGUI .

Also the project name, we need something to refer to the project by . I get fed up of calling it the "DBPro Community FPS", especially since it isn't officially that. We also need a name for the engine, as that is all that really exists at the moment. Brainstorm (actually, looking up random words in the dictionary )...

Engine:
Euphoria
Limit
Basis

Game:
Dissolution
The Arena of Death
Backfire

Well backfire is this weird game I've got where you have to fire a ball back and forth and the arena of death sounds slightly tacky but that is just my opinion.

I know this is a little off topic but I have some models that we might be able to use (royalty free, not made by me) if I can convert it to a useable format. Hud will be done shortly (I have another day off of school).

CPU - I'd be happy to pretty much hand over the editor coding to you, so long as you can keep up the coding style decided in the documents (which I think you can). Even though I decided that the editor should use BGUI (which means only people who have it can compile it), it's still going to be open source. The physics engine is really integrated into the editor (the engine is just a load of functions to make Newton work easily for what we need), so you don't nesecarrily need to change that, but we could definitly use an improved user interface, and more user-friendly tools. If you want to make any major additions to the physics library, then we should talk on msn (not sure if you have it), as it needs to also port straight over to the game as it pretty much does now. Makes everything a lot easier . Also file formats, and basically everything that is also related to the main game, needs to be maintained and regulated. But by all means make suggestions about how we could improve it, I am not an expert on any of this. I'll send you the files if you tell me how and when (and if) you want them. Cheers.

Game Programmer - Yeah, they are pretty much the same, but at the moment it is mostly just the engine being created. Media is gradually building up so we can add in some levels and weapons and stuff .

DJ - If you're absolutely sure the author has no problem with us using them, then post some screens and we'll see if they'd be useful . What format are they in at the moment?

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

You could call the game "Deathmatch isLANd"
@andrew neale: technically hes not helping. Besides, would you want to code instead of map every level? Newton physics are the best.
