This is just a little project I had in my mind recently....... what it is a forum. All of the forum is made in php and mysql exept the footer and html/graphical components. I had help from a friend, so most of it was just a walk through, I have been working on it for a few hours...fixing stupid bugs, adding stuff....and this is my result:

Normally an artist wouldn't put his painting up in a gallery until it is complete.

I said It was a continous project. I am adding stuff. Basically I just want to see how good my php skills are. It will look better by the end, we want to use tables and css before we set up complex graphical componets. Who knows, maybe this will be as good as apollo in the far distant edge of time future.
edit: I didnt want to make it look like apollo. I want an original design.

and from screenies of old apollo, it looks pretty darn close to old versions. I am stopping programming for tonight, start late tomorrow. Look at all my beautiful forums I am adding though. I think I can program okayly...

I would never! The game creators are the best. Well If anyone can recommend on what I should start doing today, that would help.
Things:
a) Finish Registration coding
b) Do login code
c) add post functions

This forum already takes up 5.7 mb on the database!

I;d do them in that order.. Although its not a particularly usefull forum if you can only sign up.. hehe..

Maybe get those 3 points done THEN post when done..

Well, 17 forums are hidden(I dont really want to show forums with the title "Bla Blah",lol), I have 12 users switched from the old databases, 9 categories, a data base for the user cp, a database for the emoticons, and more...ooops, database means table, typed wrong.

Ok, I will do them in order.........notice in my first post you can email me to sign up. So if I do login, those signed up can login.

+ until the forum is finished cut it down to about 4 boards and 2 catagories, there is no need for the rest until it is usable

its good that your learning how to create a forum, unfortunately tho dont expect a huge slew of users to jump ship.
Can't hurt to learn how things work tho.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself

And that takes 5.7mb?!? I have a database with 20,000 rows and it only takes 1.2

Get 15 new commands, all the date / time commands left out of DBPro for free!

ok....note: soon password changing will be made in cp. This encrypts the pass before the data base can even see it, into a encrytion code.

Well it appears I kept making an increment number in php code. so 1x800 800x800, so on.... and it was: users, users1,ect...
so each user exsisted in a huge number of files, I had to redo the entire database.
edit: the data base is limited to 6.0 mb......

also, it is a php page, so any external language (like java, what you tried) would not work because it is being inside php, not html....I think
