Which version of DirectPlay do the network functions use?

I was under the impression that Mike converted the multiplayer commands to DX9 some time ago.

I guess technically DX9 uses the DX8.1 directplay, which has a slight change over directplay 8.0.

so then, how to we tell DGSDK to use a set port number? I thought we could in DX8.

DirectInput still uses V8 according to the executable, so its possible he may have (although I didn't think so).
