My current project that is about a day or two away from being finished is called Gina's Gems. It was my girlfriends idea and thats where the name came from.

It very simple, you just have to match three or more gems in a row horizontally and get your goal bar up before your time runs out. It's like the game "Bejeweled" and many others. I'll I have to finish now is fixing the music and sound options, that are a little messed up and get the highscores list working.

Here's some screen shots(EDIT: I UPGRADED THEM TO THE NEW ONES)

The main menu:

The game play screen:

I could release a demo right now. Actually, I think I will. I'm going to have to change the thread name.

Here's the controls:

At any time you can switch from full screen to window mode and back again by pressing the "F4" key.

Main Menu:

Move up and down with - Cursor Keys
Select a choice with - Enter Key

Note: Highscores does'nt work yet and the music and sound controls don't work that well yet.

Game Play:

You select a gem to move with the mouse and select where you want to move it with the mouse. Once, thats done the two gems will swap places. The goal is to fill up the goal bar at the bottom. In order to that you have to match three or more gems horizontally. The gems matched will break, your goal bar goes up, and your score goes up.

If you can't find anymore gems to match up click the "Cheat button up at the top or just press the "c" key. The first three rows of gems will be replaced. The first time you use this its free, but then it takes away 500 more points each time.

To pause either click the "Pause" button or just press the "p" key.

To enter the menu press the "m" key, soon you'll be able to just click the button with the mouse.

Scoring:

Emerald(green) and peral(white) gems are worth the least. Ruby(red) gems are the next ones up, then Plum (purple), then the blue things.

So, you just go to fill up the goal bar up and move to the next level, before the time bar runs out. If I've confused you, just try it and you'll get it. If not just ask me.

I've just realized that I can only send 1 mb , so help......!!!!

I put the .exe file into a .rar file and it's at about 7mb.

Please help soon because its says "Demo" in the thread name.

I created my own site with free webs, just a couple of minuets ago. The onlt thing is they won't let you upload any files bigger than like 1mb. Before they'll let me I have to wait 7 days!!!

I set up everything, but I guess I'm going to wait the seven days, but the good news is that in seven days the whole game will be completely finished.

If you want to take a look so far at my site with no downloads on it! go here:

Im sure its realy good, I would suggest getting someone, or you, to redo the interface and display, presentation is very important and im sure this would go much further with a more professional look, If you want, you can e-mail me and I might be able to help you out.

Think what you like, you'll all be mine in the end.

Well,I tried doing all the art, but thats my downfall. I can program just fine, but my artwork isn't really "Professional". If you or someone else thinks they can help me out, that would be great.

I guess thats five more days to go before they'll let me upload any files to the site.

Finnished the upgrade, sending it to you now, I would suggest using a larger resolution because it would look alot nicer, eather that or have a windows mode (the option in the game is wierd)

The upgrade to the media was well......AMAZING!!!....Thank you, so much.

I have no idea how you made that stuff, but I like it. It definitly makes the game more professional. I've upgraded my site with the new screen shots, but I'll just post them here too(for the lazy people ).

I'm not sure how to just change resolutions. I always thought that you had to draw the media in the resolution you want to use, but I'm sure there's an easier way then drawing the media in each resolution, so I'll have to figure that out.

Here are the new screen shots:

Main Menu

In Game Play

I'll post in the "Darkbasic Discussions" forum about the resolutions thing. Also, thanks again to Mind Storm 101.

Only 1 more day to the game is availble for download.

See Ya!

Long as nobody notices, then I guess its fine, but its the same deal with the music . The lastest version of the game should be ready for download on my site today, as long as nothing gets in my way like restrictions and that kind of stuff.

Last night I made a lot of progress. I'm going to add a puzzle mode to the game, where you have so many moves to break all the gems. I made a level editor in about an hour. So far you can choose from "New","Load", and "Save". I got them all working perfectly and the level saves in my own format called ".lev" Now the only thing to add today to it is the "test" option. Once, thats finished I'll be able to make my own levels with the editor and then test them out. Right now I have the first ten levels already made with the editor, but I can't test them yet, but theres no need to yet because there not that hard yet. I want the user of the game to be able to make there own custom levels too, so were going to have to make the level editor all nice and pretty, thats where I'm going to need you Mind Storm. I just hope that you're still interested and have some time on your hands. I can't do it myself because I'm not a artist and I don't want half of the game with good artwork and the rest crapy. So, I'll finish all the coding today because once I get the test option working, I can use most of the same code for the puzzle mode when you're actually trying to beat the levels.

So, in a few hours, after I get out of school I'll upload the game on to my website and then later tonight I'll do all the coding for the puzzle mode.

Ok, the lastest version of the full working game is now on my site and ready for download. The only thing is when I try to download it, the whole 4mb, it says 1hr 6min. If I waited that long to upload my game and it takes that long I'm gonna freaking kill someone. So before I go nuts, will someone else try to download it on there computer. Its a zip file that contains everything in one exe file. If nobody can get a normal download time, I'll write them a nice little email .

They only allow 1mb, I just checked. Do you think the Db site can help me out with this?

Maybe, I should submit my game, even though I still want to add some stuff, but everthing works.

Edit: I just checked and it will cost me $5 a month for this site. I only have one game that I want people to see, so its not worth it.

Does anybody have a site of their own where I could have my game upload to, please , PRETTY PLEASE!

(Well at least I tried )

The look at lot different, I guess noone will notice.

Here's some new screen shots of the puzzle mode

Level 1:

Level 3:

Level 9:

Those screen shots are of the level editor. It's not pretty, but it works for me. Before I release the game with the level editor included it will look different then that. Those are some the levels that I will actually be using for the game and they save in a ".lev" format.

How does the puzzle mode work?

Well, the first thing to know is that you have a certain amount of total moves to get rid of a the gems. For the first, third, and ninth level you only have one move to complete the level.

The next thing to know is that if there's nothing below a gem, then it will fall down to the bottom. If you get three or more gems in a row horizontally or vertically, they will break.

For the moves you click on a gem and then click where you want it to go. You can swap to gems or just move a single gem 1 space either horizontally or vertically.

I also, want to add a time limit, but I haven't figured out how I want it yet.

I have found someone that will host my game, but where having "email difficulties".

Well, thats it for updates. I'll add a test option to the editor tonight, but if you want you can solve it in your head right now. Well, that is if you understood my little mumble jumble up above.

See Ya!

What do you guys think?

EDIT: for some reason the music isn't working, but I fixed it by included the music files along with the exe file. So, the guy who is hosting my game is going to update the link. Its really boring without the music.

Hi!
I've tested the game yesterday & have to say that it's quite nice & efficient.
I just noticed some stuffs... As the game runs only on Full screen & I have set my desktop on 1152 X 864 I have the icons/images a bit pixelized.
I think you should have an option that can runs the game in windowed mode (or increase the quality of the pics, but I guess this is a bit annoying).

Anyway, I hadn't the time to have a full play on it, but as a first impression is that your game is really nice & playfull!

Thanks,

In time, I'm positive that someone will make that type of the game........In time....

And I pretty sure I added a windowed mode to the version I put up on my site. Anyway, I've been working on it here and there among some of my other projects, and now I made it so you can change the resolution in the options menu. I wasn't quite sure how to do it, so what I did was took the original media and scale by certain numbers using a program I got with my computer. I saved the media in different folders for each resolution, like 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768. Those are the only ones I did, but I don't think I need any bigger ones then that.

I got to go so see you later.

I might have been editing my site while you were trying to get on it because I was editing it a lot that day.

And those gems look great, I like the tear drop ones better, so if I can I'd like to use them. Thanks.

Also, I have created over 70 levels for the puzzle mode in the level editor that I made. So, eventually I'll put out the update for the game.

I'll just have to resize them just a little, but its no big deal. For right now though I can't do much because my computer at home is down, so I don't know how long it will be for I start working on anything again. It shouldn't be that long, I just got to call Hp and have them fix it.

I wanted to submit this game to the showcase, but I first looked at some of the games in there and now I'm not sure if they will accept this game or not. I don't want to submit it and then not get in, so what do you guys think?

In any case, my next game will definetly make it with out question. Of course as long as everything goes smoothly.
