I just received my copy of the sdk. I put the DX SDK include and lib files at the top of the list in the respective lists that they belong in followed by the Dark game includes and lib files. I compiled the animation example and I only got 1 error this is it,

c:\dxsdk\include\d3dx9math.h(1380) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'd3dx9math.inl': No such file or directory

Did I not include something I needed to? Also when I get this fixed WHERE DO I START I just barely know some of the basics of c++.

I do have the book Game Programming with Dark Basic and I just bought the book C++ Primer Plus fifth edition(great book) should I go through these books and convert the programs to Dark Game just to learn some things or should I just jump in blind and try to write my own?

My c++ knowledge is very limited!!!

Did you download the latest DX SDK? The location is in the FAQ sticky post at the top of this forum

I just tried most of the examples even example 1 which is an untextured box spinning slowly and I get the same error for them all so I must need to add something to my lib or include list. Any ideas

thanks

In that case, either:
- something didn't install correctly,
- you didn't install everything (you need the full sdk + extras)
- or you've deleted something by accident.

That missing file should exist in the same folder - you should have these two files side by side:

c:\dxsdk\include\d3dx9math.h
c:\dxsdk\include\d3dx9math.inl

Make sure the DX headers appear before the DarkSDK ones and before anything else.

I would try reinstalling the DX SDK first - even if someone sends the header files to you, there's no guarantee that they are the only things missing.

If your email a/c can handle 10.5mb, I can send you all of the headers and libs via email in a rar file - I know that these are complete because I am using them right now

I will try to reinstall from MS first. Should I uninstall all direct X files first?

In which case the file is either elsewhere or wasn't installed.
You may need to re-install the SDK again.

WinZip should be able to deal with RAR files. If not, use WinRar.

It would be best to uninstall the old SDK (you cant uninstall DX).
Be care when you install the SDK - it has a nasty tendancy to install the debug version of DirectX 9.0
