I was wondering if more terrain world commands are coming as what is there now are limited and unsuited to what i need. I would idealy love to create the terrain and models
in 1 editor eg maya or 3dmax etc and export to x and then compile to bsp but even that bsp compiler doesnt support non-boxed objects - will this be changed?
Be afraid..be very afraid were all being watched!!

@necrym: Yes, vast improvements are scheduled, not sure which patch, either 4 or 5 I think. The BSP compiler is a very poor excuse, it only performs CSG. It may perform BSP as well, but I don't think it does VIS and I KNOW it doesn't do RAD. If you don't know what those are don't worry lol
The point is, no BSP compiler, even iD's does anything but boxes and other simple primatives. You can't use, say nurbs, or complex meshes, because it's a CSG engine. Anything other than simple primatives just can't be handled properly.

@Rambo: This is not your topic, your post has NOTHING to do with this one, so please make a new post (preferably in the new-comers section) elsewere to house your questions.

bsp works to a tolerable point at the mo. however I would not finish any game using the commands available now. it is clearly an aspect of dbpro which requires improvement.

Apparentlty patch 5 will introduce new commands. Lee Bamber says it is his big SUPRISE for dbpro users.

By definition the BSP format only supports objects contained inside a box. All Quake 3 / HL / Q2 levels are made up a series of boxes (rooms). Even the outdoor ones. The effect of non-square rooms is done by placing shapes inside the box, eg a dome inside a square room with a sky texture on.

If you want to create a terrain then if Maya can export heightmaps then yes, you could use that. But if you are trying to create terrains in Maya then the kind of terrains that you are looking at suggest that your game is not suited to the BSP format (which is really only for indoor games).

um... no, I don't think he means using terrains in BSPs... DB terrains and BSPs are two different things.

LOL at the post being from last year, stupid rambo brought it to the top again
