Remember this is a work in progress. Just bought fraps and created this movie, it's around 5.5mb. (This is built with quick lightmapping)

A couple of questions if you have time:

1. What software tool did you use to record the game play?
2. What format are the speech audio files in (wav,mp3,wma?) and what kind of file size are you getting with those?
3. Are the sound fx you are using (like the bulkhead wheel turning) part of the package or are they 3rd party?

Thanks.

@fdecker,
1. fraps, designed for recording games and doing benchmarking.
2. I just used wav files. I havent tried anything else yet, will try other formats later). the wave files are around the 40-120k mark.
3. They are built in sounds, but you can use your own by changing entity properties or scripts.

Thanks jasuk70.

So, I take it from your response that FPSC will handle other format imports (sound file formats that is)? I don't remember that being discussed before. I wonder what the list includes on that.

@fdecker, I don't know about the formats as I've not played with them before, will check tomorrow.

The TTS voices add a sense of eerieness and mechanicalism to it. Well done.

Very nice demo. You might consider changing the sound the doors make when opened. I don't know, but they sounded too high pitched for me. A deeper grating sound might add more to the atmosphere.

at the moment its just .wav I think. For V1, there will be somesort of compression compatibility, but noone knows which one yet. It will probably be .ogg because there is no license to pay to use that. Plus its less lossy.

Best choices for all media would be that which has an acceptable level of quality and which are formats which are the most likely to have the widest user system support. i.e. best compatibility across systems. There are some which should be compatible with all Windows PC systems by default. You can use your brains on that one.

Otherwsie there may be more players of your games having problems in getting it to run than would otherwise be the case.

jasuk70,

You mentioned your dislike of your own voice. I can totally relate. There is a neat little software tool that I use in my classroom for our Claymation unit. It's called AV VCS (voice changing software). It works fairly well and I think has some potential for FPSC games. My favorite setting in VCS is the Gould setting. Any Stargate fans out there?

The backgound music comes with FPSC, though you do have the ability to use your own. And before you ask, at the moment I am not sure of the supported formats .

Depends on my spare time tonight. I will work on a section that involves shooting baddies, but the problem will be when capturing video, the FPS slows down quite a bit which makes the AI look less appealing than it would without the capturing the video. (I need a faster machine )
