Well, following the reopening of the 20 line challenge, I decided to add motion blur and an improved control scheme to a 20 line game I made when the competition wasn't running. This is the game that inspired me to make my TGC Compo entry Ring Worm. The aim is simple, survive as long as you can in the small rectangle whilst red rings bounce around the large rectangle for as long as possible. Easy? No! Fun? Yes!

Its DBPro only, sorry to you classic users, and doesn't need any media. Heres the code:

Have fun!

Thanks for the replies!

If you are playing with the keyboard I found its much harder, due to losing a certain degree of control. You can alternatively change the difficulty by changing the sync rate near the top of the code.

Have fun!

Wow, the mouse really is easier. 686 now - although my highest before that was about 480, and my average is around 300

Thanks! I came up with the idea after some careful thought. I wanted a game where the player was very similar to a mouse cursor, as not only does it have freedom in all directions but it provides the user with instinctive and full control over the player, which can only be a good thing. I then wanted some enemies which the player can anticipate as they follow a simple rule based movement pattern, bouncing seemed to be the obvious solution. A problem with Ring Worm, the full 3D version, was that I incorporated angled walls and this made it too difficult to anticipate the movement of enemies. The random size changes originated as a way to make the game different each time, crucial as the bouncing pattern remains the same, but also to make certain enemies more threatening than others.

On another note, I've started learning Java and this will be the first game I make with it as its simple and perfectly suited to OOP. People can then play it on web pages, without downloading it, and even more excitingly on Java enabled phones.

Just thought you might like to know that the Java version of this game is coming along well. Will be great to have this running as an applet on a webpage.

If you haven't cheated thats really impressive. Also, if you have played it enough to achieve this I'm really flattered. How long did it take to do it, and on what sync rate was it?

no i didnt use primitive paint
any real programmer would go thru decompile it to asm and then edit it in asm to change CERTAIN values to higher values
but of course im not that stupid since it is opensource i just changed the value from score=score+1 to score=score+100
plus u can totally tell that is fake the text dont align up and the font is slightly differnt plus it is unproportinal

I kinda suspected that you had cheated, but I wanted to give you then benefit of the doubt. That score would be quite possible on a lower sync rate. I wanted to believe that it was on sync rate 10 and you had played for an hour, just because I'd be flattered if anyone did.
