Ok after seeing RPGamer's swords, I was inspired to get myself a copy of milkshape and actually learn how to use it, heh.

This is what I came up with a few mins ago, after seeing the pic on http://www.medievalweaponart.com.

The one thing I have to work on is the pommel, but that is what I have so far.

cool, but do you really need that many polys?, the blade itself could only be 6 polys on each side, 3 for the 3 sides and 3 for the tip.

Remember, modelling is only half the work. Its ok to let the texture show some of the detail without havin all the elevations on the model. Experiment until you think you get a nice blend.
Good luck,
Sina.

Very Nice. Has a good Fantasy feel. Disco Stu made a very valid point. Modeling is nothing compared to texture. The simplest box can turn heads depending on its texture. First off make the blade longer and maybe less of a taper to a point, unless the blade was made for thrusting. Then texture the boomstick!
Very Nice.

Hey, thanks everyone.

Blazer:
I know I've got to cut a lot of the poly's, 3/4's are in the blade lol.

Kyro
This is a good tutorial for milkshape that helped me out.

http://www.planetquake.com/qworkshop3/tutorials/model-2/index.html

Disco Stu/Brent_Seraphim:
Well, I modeled it after this sword:
http://www.medievalweaponart.com/images/p/mrl1532.jpg

I changed it up a bit, but like I said, I'm not done. I'll take the advice on the texturing as well. I've gotta go for now, but I'll post an update sooN (hopefully less polys heh).

Thanks again for the c&c.

Wow I now have a small following......... 0_o

YOU WILL ALL NOW BOW DOWN TO ME!!!!
Hehe just joking.
Hmm it's been a while since I did any low-poly modelling of sorts, I think I'll give this swordcraze a go too. See how far I get.

Once you start modelling you see things differently (or it could just be me), sometimes I find it easier to work if I draw outlines on pictures of where and how polygons could be placed, it helps keep things simple and precise. But again that's just me, and I personally have a lot to learn.

Good luck,
Sina.

Not great quality but should be oki for anyone's LOTR game

http://members.lycos.co.uk/timesaga/darkbasic/orcblade.zip

thats the SDK with the DirectX, Texture, PaintShop Texture and Milkshape Files
1.4Mb so ya know you have been warned lol

and give it 10mins from when i post cause 56k doesn't like large ammounts of data

Yeesh, why don't you just make a non-cool format webpage?
It would be a lot better for people with screwed up computers like me.

hehee... many people have tried to translate but most don't know enough or try to use sites to do it.

problem is with interpretive languages, you can only get the general words not the exact meaning.

"Everyone's fear(feeling of) in Possesion of I"
is basically the exact phase ... which actually means
"Everyone will Fear Me"

which actually cracks me up to have a dancing GIR beside it

Turning my sword into net fluff would've been easy Did you guys make your swords using mainly the vertex and face functions?

Thanks RP.

I need to work on my texturing lol, I just textured my sword, but I am ashamed to look at it lol... I still have to kill some of those polys as well, I'll post something else when it looks decent

[B]Kyro/B]

Yeah, mine was all vertex, then face , click, click, click lol.... Lots of linking faces...heh.

AAAHhhh, your sshots are soo tiny lol, but cool.

yup Vertex and simple extrude modelling

not really many other ways to model within Milkshape ...
however i did make the rounding of the handle with a Vertec Divide - wasn't grand.

Given a while shouldn't be hard to make something a little more worthwhile

The thing I don't like is the fact that Milkshape puts all the things it one groups so you can't hide part of it so you can clicky clicky a face without having it connect to the wrong vertexes like 50 times

Highlight the things that you want in one group and hit regroup, should work then.

Like if you make your handle then go to vertex edit the hilt...select the whole handle and regroup, and after you make the faces for the hilt select just those and regroup.

yeah that bugged me about Milkshape too... even more so because Mete has the edit that i made him for using the 3D Window as an extra dev area - but he refuses to put it in cause he doesn't want to change the style until 2.0.0
also why the working booleans arn't there either, he's got alot of cool tools which are waiting on his new "professional" front.

Found a way to put your vertices and matrixes into new groups! You just select, then hit the regroup button! MWAHAHAHA

Duh! If you want to select an individual face (maybe for reversing it) then I just suggest using the face tool and going over the vertices, that selets that one face for you.
