Greetings. Just a thought. Open the .fpe for the gun entity, and check to see if "hasweapon" and "isweapon" point to your folder where you placed the HUD.x file. I believe this might correct the problem. The FPSC needs to know that the entity you are picking up is a weapon that you have in your gamecore\gun folder.
Let me know if it helps. I'm toying with bringing in my own weapons as well, and your problem seems familiar. Give me a follow up, and I'll research what info I've got to help you with this.
Any chance that I might be able to get a copy of your gun, for private use? That is a really nice looking model!
