DarkBASIC Professional Discussion / Does DBPro require the CD?!?!?

I just received my copy of DBPro in the mail last night. I installed it (it came with a reference book, but no other docs). I put the CD away, and now it doesn't want to start! I can put the CD in, of course, but do I have to have it in there every time I use it? The message I'm getting is:

"Please insert the Dark Basic Pro CD-Rom, Click OK, and restart the application"

PLEASE tell me I didn't just waste my money on a system that requires the CD-Rom to be inserted every time you use it (I'm guessing that's NOT the case).

Thanks!

Jai

DBPro requires the CD:

1) On install
2) Once every 100 or so compiles.

Once every hundred or so compiles isn't SO bad for a product this wonderful - I STILL think it shouldn't be required for a development product though. Ah well.

DBPro doesn't (as far as I see) need the CD to run after you download Patch 3.1. Well it works for me anyway!

It does need the CD but not on every 100 compiles ... a bit more I think ...

He should of taken it off. Its a pain in the ass since it takes about 5 hours for the CD to actually work

5 hours? Yeah.. and we're not exagerating at all are we?! More like 5 minutes.

Cheers,

Rich

To be quite honest, and despite the fact that I find it a right royal pain in the butt, I don't blame DBS for leaving it in. If I'd spent the best part of a year writing something, I'd want it protected from being ripped off too.

It won't stop pirates, they'll just use software like CDilla or Virtual Drive. They should take the feature out, its an annoyance, and makes it feel like they don't trust us

Rich,

The CD was VERY badly stamped on a low-quality press and as a result the DBP disc doesn't work very well at all compared to other SafeDisc disks.

Its generally a problem with older CD drives that have trouble with SafeDisk protected programs...

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

If you have faulty media, feel free to return it for a replacement. If you want to image the CD yourself, feel free - we can hardly stop you! Even if the media is "low quality" (and I'm not sure exactly how you judge that just by looking at it) a short access once every 100 compiles (or 500 even) isn't exactly going to cause the thing to melt down.

Cheers,

Rich

I wanted to get a refund when I had found out about the cd protection scheme. But Guy Savoy promised he'd switch me over to another protection scheme (free of charge) after it was available. So for now, I'm not using DBPro.

Oh come on guys!!!
What does it really matter? I love the product and I completely understand the reasoning behind the protection system.
Just make a copy of it if u are worried about damaging the origional.

GET A VIRTUAL DRIVE PROGRAM - they are given away free on magazines all the time, and I'm sure CDilla is available on Kazaa...
