I like the combat engine.
It looks like it works really well from the screens.

Just curious, but how many towns do you plan to include?

an ever increasing number im going to regularly update with new areas and new parts of the storyline:::

youll get COB volume 1 and install and play it... it will have chapter one and all maps involved in that chapter...

then you can get COB volume 2, which will add on to volume 1 extended the story and adding new areas... but volume 2 CANT be played til volume 1 has been completed at least once...

each volume will take the average player about 10 hours to complete first time through... but as they keep the experience they gain, the other times they play through will be faster

thanks for positive comments all

im trying to get a job

i just needed an infinity hobby that would refrain me from my childhood and present depressions.... <eye twitch> .... anyways, it will be kinda like a TV series, but with games.... it probably will have an end though, after about 7 or 8 volumes.... and if people enjoyed it, ill make COB2 e.t.c.

i also want to make it online if thats a possible possibility (mwaha)

Just as long as there aren't any spin offs (Holby City anyone?) and the same joke isn't looped, and any comedy must not have the laughing in the background, I hate that, he got a pie the face, hehehehehe, thats not funny, gets kicked in groin crowd shouts, ooooooh, I laugh, what with that....oops I ramble....please just don't copy tv too much.

dude you need to see a docter, I think you got a serious twitching problem, maybe Schizofrenia (I know I didn't spell it right)like my uncle (Won't talk about that area)

er nah, i dont have Schizofrenia but i have confirmed case of SchizoTypal....

anyways, dont compare it to a sitcom :p TV series as in = errr... all that anime stuff (dragonball z first to mind?) it will have slapstick humour, but plenty of action and storyline... no stupid sitcom laughing and crap

That would be awesome having that in a game. Imagine if you took a clean headshot on a zombie and their head explodes. Having sitcom esque "hahaha" or "oooooooooh" would make it pretty funny. If you did the sitcom voices deliberately mock sitcom voices it could be quite funny. You could also have it to restrict the character from going where its not meant to be, just as a voice saying "ooh don't go there". If you were being strangled by a female zombie you could have cheering and chants from the audience going "you go girl friend"

Would make it an original comedy game.

Simple... yet fun!

Audience could never work, because while it's just backround noise on TV, in a game you actualy have to focus, and a croud making noises throughout the game completely destroys the suspension of disbelief. Having the zombies heads explode when you hit them though, is a pretty good idea. Making the head fly off when you swing you sword at it would also be cool. but both are probably too complex for the average programer, and don't really add much to the gameplay.

I say that at some piont in one of the chapters, Bob should end up walking into a sitcom set with an audience and fight loads of zombies, while the croud laughs and stuff... or not if you don't want to include it.

zombies aint the only enemy it was just the most simplest to make at the time... im doing AI with similar skills to Bob...

plus, exploding head, and chopping off head sounds pretty neat but ill only make the heads explode if you kill them close range head shot with a shotgun, cause repetitive effects get boring

plus, the audience would be funny at first but after about 5 mins youll get sick of em... im sticking to slapstick humour (shooting a civilian and they scream in overexagerated pain) and verbal humour (Bob saying funny, cold comments as he kills and does other stuff)

Quote: "but both are probably too complex for the average programer"

er, pretty easy for me, does that make me above average? (cept i cant be bothered to program physics on decapitated head just yet...

maybe have an audience in a death match mode, but have ability to turn it on or off :p

The walking onto a sitcom set is hilarious and wouldn't annoy throughout the entire game. Having it as a death match arena would be equally funny. You could have a volume where Bob has to hunt down the mysterious audience who started commentating one day. Then he he wonders onto the set of Jerry Springer and has to kill them. The security people could run at you to try to break the fight up and there could be random shouting and beeping. May be a bit random for a volume though.

Simple... yet fun!

Bob will be very random .... im a bit tired and lazy lately and cant be bothered to make an opening sequence and the city.... ah well, to comfort you, i should tell you that i did slay the zombies however

im just gonna write some ball physics for decapitated head.... and... STILL NEED IDEA FOR "LOW FPS CONSUMING" BLOOD EFFECT

[EDIT] actually i cant be bothered to do ball physics either... im just gonna randomly code stuff/// til i can be bothered to do something specific...

attached is low quality clip of COB engine so far....

enemies attacking is deactivated in this clip, cause i havent got it done 100%, but still watch Bob slaughter the defenseless zombies

-needs blood
-death animation needs improving
-needs scenery

ok, ive complained about my own game, so no need for others to moan about what i already know about

Well, the easiest method for blood... that'd be writing a particle engine that uses textured plains. It's actually quite a simple concept for the moderate amount of code you have to write. Here's some p-code/realcode

Make sense? It shouldn't take more than 30minutes to get it up and running the way you want it to; I think when I first used this method I had it up in 35 and that included the "thinking it up in the first place" part There are other things you can do with this, including a part when you test for the terrain height before you apply gravity and so rotating it properly so it looks like blood splatters. Of course, doing that means you have a slight drop in fps because a)you need more like 1000 particles to do this and b)the particle timeout needs to be more like 2200ms for it to appear properly. But it shouldn't be that much of a drain for the cool look it provides.

ill release a graphical demo when the engine is working nicely, so people can test screen fps the demo will involve the current engine, with a simple objective based scheme (kill 100 enemies? destroy so and so, e.t.c.). thanks for offering webspace,

o, i thought people lost interest, so i was letting it die :p

but since people have brought it back to life.... i think ill spend the next 5 hours on it

working on:
1) improved combat engine
2) improved AI
3) improved graphics

gonna make a lil test arena for 1 on 1 combat test, then ill implement it to other enemies later...

[EDIT]

4) making a CHARACTER EDITOR (not a very good one, but ah well)
5) making a character skeleton coded into DBpro...(easy updating body parts, animations carry across multiple models, e.t.c.)
