Sorry about no screens I was going to take one but it took forever to get some fire code for a school presentation working how I needed it. And I was bombarded with work and I should be able to have a screen up tonight featuring Hal Spang V the new age of noobS! AKA Pundil(coming soon to a message board near you)

Uh next year... sometime. First off I got a BSOD on my XP (Yes I don't know how... haven't seen one since 95). SO I couldn't get a screen along with the fact that I've been piled with homework and so I think that I'll just make a video with

combat

Also sorry for double posting but it won't let me edit. >_<

I don't know why I keep clicking the edit button and getting a 404 in this thread even though the new thread I made in 3D Chat.

Anyways if anyone could read that thread and help me out that would be great.

Thanks.

The title of the thread is If someone could model these for me I would be delighted or something similar.

well I'll just do the Karate dude, anime, sorry haven't started, this week was just extra busy, only 3D modelling I've done is maniac rushes' chest and the start of his belt for the 'rush' project. Tommorrow might be more quiet for starting on the Karate dude and Maniac rush, my apologies.

Hey guys well I've been adding the shooting combat system as one character is a gunner and I was wondering, would you guys like if you had the option to go into a first person mode when using the gunner character?

That'd be nice, but I'd also like to see an auto-aiming system that targeted the nearest enemy automatically in the 3rd person mode, unless you use a mouse to control the camera. If you use a mouse to control the camera, I'd like to have a sight in 3rd person to know where I'm aiming.

I was thinking about auto-targeting. But I was wondering what the best way to code it would be. I have one method I've tried but it's certianly not the fastest.

*bump*

Any suggestions on what would be teh BEST way on going about auto targeting?

And on a side note, Seppuku that Karate guy model you were makign for me well Blazer offered to do the models for me via email and I'll have Xenocythe animate them if he's still willing to (by the way your HUD should be done soon I just started getting to work on it ) and so it won't be used for Urbia, however if you could still continue modelling it and animate it with the animations asked for I'll probably use it as a test model for OA.

Heh, if you didn't know one of the bat you didn't need to go and experiment for me but thanks anyways, I've also been experimenting and have found a slightly better way it doesn't increase the FPS a ton but it almost gets it back to the 60 it was at before I had auto-targeting.

Now you may be saying 60 is a good FPS for a game, but keep in mind thats for a finished product, Urbia's engine still has a bit to go let alone the entire game and well this 60 is with only a few of the NPCS having AI on so thats not a good sign so I really need to start getting the FPS up there, and I'm still working on an on screen distance function that hides objects in the distance stops functions that can't be seen dependant on player position that works seemlessly so you don't just walk into black and suddenly everything appears. Its being a real bitch.

Well the most obvious auto targeting would be to check that the enemy is in a decent range and then if the player is roughly facing it (I have a function which will do that and barely touch the fps).
Another option would be to use the pick object function where the mouse is. Then when an enemy is under the mouse show a target round them and point the player at them. I'll get some code together as an example as soon as I can.

That function would be nice because the way I've done does take a hit on the FPS for some reason that I don't really understand... its odd maybe I've just over complicated it.

Now still, would you like a first person mode for the gunner, Adair?

I would like to have an answer for this.

And Blazer is making good progress on the models, they are excellent so far, hes done the three playable characters, he just needs to texture them and then he'll do the NPC and I hope hes doign the villian aswell, I'm waiting to get his okay as to wheter or not I can post up the pics so far.

WEll thats one reply saying yes, and wow Andrew. Your code, all though achieving the same effect really didn't do much to my FPS unlike mine, thanks a ton!
