This looks fantastic,

Its quite simla to somthing i started with a small group of people a few months back. But i had to go back to the drawing board and do research into online play, i jumped into the deep end to fast ...

::QUESTION::
if the server was to crash or curupt is there going to be a backup, of game data or will all be lost... if there is a backup is it going to be produced per minute,hour,day,week?
This would give dedicated players pace of mind

Good luck with your project.. Keep us posted

Also ReaperMan if your on MSN add me " WKitching@hotmail.com " and if you need any gfx "title screens etc" doing il show you what im capable of i have a portfolio more or less ready... And yes count me in for playing this game.

i b teh win

@skank64

Thank you for your words. I am glad you like it. I will send you the start-up program so you can join in, but after that the beta testing is closed to anyone else. (There is a total of 197 players playing it)

To answer your question, a backup of the data is held on our computer (the one that works out all the moves) and so, if the server crashes it is only 1 cycle (one move) in front of our computer anyway. So all that would happen is that when the server is fixed, the game program (on the players computer) would receive a package telling it to re-send the last move, and all would be well.

I will add you to MSM and will contact you over some graphics you could do. Thanks for offering.

@STALKER

We will be starting as soon as we get:
1. All the media, including the music that’s being custom written by a forum member.
2. Everyone has signed up. (We are waiting for 2 more people)
3. After my daughter has stopped pestering me for help with her DBP competition game! (Which really is not a reason, but I just thought I would say that to embarrass her into stop pestering me).

It should be in the next few days when it starts, and we have now converted all 2D into 3D, and the engine works like a dream. Very smooth.

@Anime Blood

I sent you an email. But what I said was that its good, but needs something else in it. Maybe a planet, or an explosion, or some dark and mysterious alien type of space station floating in the background.

Cheers

when you say "signed up" do you mean used that program to upload a texture and choose a user name?

after everybody has signed up how will we play? because all i have is two programs to upload textures and register names

@Peter_

What will happen is that we will put a link on our site to a direct download. All the players like you, who have just set up their game info will be able to download the main game program and then they will be able to just fire up the game, log in, and play.

As I said above in the last post we have a total of 197 people playing it, out of them, the new ones (you and others) will be joining in very soon.

The only thing we will be looking at doing (for the main open-to-the-public game) is to add some form of chat room so that players can interact. But at this time, everything is going very well, and the game looks set to be a hit and will be open to everyone, upto about 1000 users.

Cheers

I still haven't received any emails from your Reaperman, I get the feeling something is wrong somewhere between your email server and gmail.

I don't suffer from insanity - I enjoy every minute of it!

Ok folks, just an update, in case you did not get this via email.

We lost the server access because we paid for it but the host wanted more money because of the amount of access it was getting.
We now have a new server kindly given to us by a very nice software company (who I did some work for and asked a favour of! ) and we can now start it.

Sorry for the wait to all the testers but I am also in the process of moving from Kent to Pontefract (300 miles away) and its been a bit hectic here.

Cheers
