uummm....first off this is Program Announcements...not WIP

second, this doesn't even qualify as a WIP, all you've shown is the star wars logo that you possibly didn't even make

[edit] ok, so i see you've shown your own picture but for all if know that was just some font in the program you have

"We make the worst games in the universe."

Unless it's been moved (which it very well might have been), I would say this is WIP.

WTF.

All you did was post the star wars logo...I honestly have nothing to say. I hope you're ashamed of yourself.

(That's honestly what's in his attachment. There's no excuse in the world for this. Even the lame "Atleast he's trying" won't work this time.

It's M-E-G-A-T-O-N. NOT MEGATRON.

The second download was the same pic with Snow instead of Star, But Megaton is right.

Posting an edited Star Wars logo is really lame. Show something to proove there's any game at all, or a Mod should lock this imeadiatly.

lay off a bit guys, he is a newbie, you don't know if he's a kid who has just come up with a game idea and is eager to tell everyone about it. Even if it is a stupid post.

At Delta; A friendly tip, It never a good idea to try to copy ideas unless you are making a fan game which would have to be free. I'm sure you're still learning dark basic so I'd learn the code well enough and learn how to do graphics, it will take a while depending on dedication to learning it, I've used DB over a year and have been learning to 3D model for a year. Dark Basic is an 'easy to learn' language but still takes time.

And when you post a thread on a this forum its always a good idea to read the stickys at the top because some contain rules for posting

A work in progress requires that you have screenshots of actual progress not just a title logo, although it is literally a work in progress but it must contain enough to get peoples interest otherwise the mods will lock the thread

PS
A star wars clone (or spoof, i dunno because you haven't said yet) sounds like a good idea if you pull it off, I think it would be good as a spoof, theres a star trek spoof as a movie why not a star wars one as a game

good luck if you do get it done

I guess I was a bit harsh, But I'm even more of a newbie, am still learning dark basic clasic, and a teenager, and I've thought it was obvious not to post a game in the WIP without something cool to show off since I learnd the game creator website even existed. I would take back just 'bout everthing I said if he shows what has been done so far on this project, asuming that more that just an edited star wars logo is the project.

Sorry if I have not posted games progress yet. I do have all the physic, moving, jumping, shooting, etc. worked out. I am waiting untill i have a something suitable to show off before i post.

This game will not only parity the main storyline of star wars films 4-6, but also other well known games and movies (matrix, halo, lord of the rings, resident evil, etc.). Also, a lot of the characters will be parities of famous people and characters from games and movies (some people even real). Any ideas you guys(and gals) might have for me to parity would be awsome.

Included is a picture a base-snowman character for the game.

The snowman is better than just an edited logo, but I want to see the GAME. I don't care if it looks crummy right now, I just want to see that you've actualy got what you say you have.

Also, this sounds nice, but do you realise how much work it will be to do what you're saying? Lay out how you plan to do your game on this thred, like how big it will be, and a ropugh estimate of what the parity story is.

Also, is this your first game, or have you programed others before?

You can always spot a newbie because for whatever reason, they ALWAYS post images as a BMP.

Also, are you REALLY Sage Tech? I swear that Sage Tech, Squid's Revenge and this guy is the same person (or a clone.....)

Please support Drew by giving him a friendly bump!

Squid's Revenge is more of a newer release of sage ... they upgraded his annoyance level...sage has redeamed himself a fair bit with his new project...however this guy could end up as another one looking at his first post....oh but dont forget GogetaX !

I really despise the noob comments. I have been programming darkbasic for about a year and a half. This will be my second full game, but my first actual retail game.

first off, this will be an actual game that will retail for $10. It will be released s fall. Snow Wars is not the official title, for i am waiting for a response from the u.s. department of trademarks and patents, to make sure this title is not already taken.

Because of this, i will not release any specifications on the code or technical specs. All i will tell you is that this game will be made using darkbasic classic and all the physics, collision, jumping, moving, shoting, etc. was programed in house and the game will not currently utilize any dll.s.

Included is a very old and very early screen test for my game. This early demo was created to test how many snowmen i could fit onscreen at once, and to test the a.i. and physics. As you can see in the corner, the framerate is at 35, this number stays the same, whether you have nothing onscreen, or there is an army of 150 snowmen starring at you.

This was accomplished with a very low end pc(about $250). The graphics card is only 16mb. Over this weekend i may release a new screnshot demonstrating the true power of my home made engine.

Please don't even try to act like a registered developer because you'll only end up embarassing yourself. Unless ofcourse, you do come back here and PROVE you've went through the registration process and are legit. Looking forward to seeing your "Holy $hit I got 500 polys on screen at once" game published.

Um...Yes and your point would be? Clearly you have a very crude and simplistic engine here. I can't decide whether your were bragging, or stating this as a problem. (Because by todays standerds, if you got nothing on screen, and get 35fps, this IS a problem)

Funny how TGC can work on a project for 3 years as a team and still not have a price set for their end product, but yet someone such as Delta Commander can have a BMP and claim they are going to sell it for $10.00.

Makes one wonder.....

I'm actually beginning to see why some people flame, why can't people set reallistic deadlines and see things realisticly, ok if this is your second game, where's the first, I'm actually getting tired of these kinds of posts, now that you aren't a newbie, so I don't have to restrain myself, its good you are making a game but please don't say stuff you cannot confirm or we've had so many newbies on here claiming crap eg. 'I'm gonna make a game that will be awesome and make millions and will be better than Halo 2'

ok

Megaton Cat : about the registration proccess, how would you like to me to prove that i am a registered developer? i am open to any suggestions you may have.

then about the frame rate, the final version of the base snowmen have around 4000 polys each. While the backgrounds maintain an average of about 120,000 polys where ever you look. When i say it maintains 35 frames i mean it. The game never goes below that number, and never goes above that number (except for cut-scenes). This was a very complex problem that i solved. I also may remind you that the framerate stays the same when you have 153 snowmen on screen with a background containg 253,300 polys (this was my new test level).

I have to go but will write to the rest later.

OK, great it can handle a load of polys but that doesn't mean there is a game there let alone a decent one.

Hate to be an idiot, doesn't "sync on: sync rate 35" keep the game at a steady 35fps? If so... that's not that impressive typing one line of code. Or perhaps I miss what sync rate does, in which case, please enlighten someone.

Also, while i'm here: The word is 'parody' not 'parity'

Quote: "but please don't say stuff you cannot confirm or we've had so many newbies on here claiming crap eg. 'I'm gonna make a game that will be awesome and make millions and will be better than Halo 2'

he said he's planning to sell it for $10...that's hardly saying it's going to make him millions...
Quote: "I dunno. You could show us some documents I suppose. Don't know much about this process."

then you have no business telling him "Please don't even try to act like a registered developer because you'll only end up embarassing yourself

Quote: "Hate to be an idiot, doesn't "sync on: sync rate 35" keep the game at a steady 35fps?"

no it keeps it under 35fps...usualy if you have loads of poly on the screen it will drop to as low as 1-3 FPS regardless of what sync rate you put on it...(sync rate is just to prevent it from going waaay faster then you want it to )

anyway...he's not claiming that he's making an uber game okay...maybe slightly ambitious...but not that bad

Megaton your responses to noobs are REALLY getting up my shirt now. and its no co-incidence that there is only one letter between shirt and sh.....

Your responses have -no place- in a community like this. Just stop. You dont have to like newbies. You dont have to agree with peoples plans for their games, their ideas or how realistic they are. Simulary you DONT HAVE TO RESPOND. Give it a break for crying out loud. How much free time do you have on your hands that you manage to go around insulting every new person who posts a half arsed wip? If they are so lame and pathetic then they arnt worth your time. IGNORE THEM.

Your attitude is sick and insulting and a classic case of right content wrong packaging. You are -not- doing these guys a favour with your reponses nor helping them towards more realistic goals, you are simply insulting them and possiably putting them off the hobby completly. Fix your attitude and save yourself some time by not responding to posts that are a waste of it. Respond to and bump topics that have had thought and care go into them if you like them and let the ones that you deem so terriable just fall to the bottom of the board, or at least dont contribute to their status at the top.

I don't know if it means anything to you or if even if would be read by the mods but if I read one more of your tactless posts I will issue a formal complaint against you to the mods - I keep cringing when I think how I would of felt on my first time on a programming forum if i was unlucky enough to draw a response like you give so willingly and to be honest no matter how i follow the thought through i never see it ending with me still being a programmer. THINK before you post.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, but it seems every other post I read by you you're slagging someone off. I *did* mean to hammer to the point home but I didnt mean to truely offend and i'm sorry if I did, but maybe its a good example of how posts come across harsher than we mean them to? Keep it in mind when you next respond to a newbie

Back to my game.

The gameplay is currently very similar to the n64 game "perfect dark" made by rare. I don't know if any of you have played this game beffore, but it has some of the best gameplay of any first person shooter. My game will also have similar humor to conkers bad fur day.( also made by rare). I appreciate the correction to one of ym many spelling mistakes, parody.
I do not at all expect this game to make millions and wipe halo away forever. I do however expect this game to sell at least 200 copies (200 x $10 = $2000). I believe this is a modest goal, that i believe i am very cpapble of reaching.

All prior conflicts aside, the reason i started this post was to get your guys input on what type of gameplay you would like to see. Or if you have a particular "parody"(ty again) in mind that you would like to see, just post it.

I thank you all in advance for your time and patience.

I would like to see a lot of platform and action adventure type of gameplay included, and you should keep the game heavily story based.

Put everything in a folder, right click the folder and hit "add to archive..."

Arghh!!!!!!! Im fed up with this site!!!!! I can no longer upload files to this site, or download any of the demos for the software. I have just purchased dbpro off of ebay(it is an older version), and am now afraid i won't be able to downlaod the upgrade to 5.8! Can someone please help me with ths problem? I am using AOL and everytime i try to download a demo(exgen, 3d canvas, etc.) it never starts! And when i try to upload a file to the forums, it says that it can't display the page, and then sometimes freezes! Is there a setting that i have to change or what?

This is both very frustrating, and very irratating, any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
