So let me get this stright...

You never played the game, and don't itend to, but you want people to tell you what's good about it? I think the obvious choice is to actually play the game yourself.

The original Unreal game was one of the best. You could play that game for months and still not get to the end. I was very disappointed in U2, took me less than a week.

And as for all this rocket talk, pick a real weapon and learn to aim. Bunch of noobies launching flak everywhere and getting lucky hits. Those kind of players deserve a shock combo to the back!

I've been playing Halo a lot recently so it's kind of hard to go back to games which let you carry obscence amounts of weapons at a time. If UT had a two weapon carry cap, I'd be strolling around with a sniper rifle and flak cannon, for long and close ranges respectively

I never completed it cause Unreal kept crashing at a point going over some lava pits or something. Frustrating as hell.

Unreal 2 took me 12hours though. Wasn't too hard, more annoying in places. Like that big mutated monster near the end when it breaks out, took ages to kill it. Didn't even think I was doing any damage, something I hate about those games is you really can't tell if your doing enemies any damage.

Mouse, UT2 has a 4 weapon capacity, which is more like what your after than it sounds, I often opt for the Ripjack or Flak cannon along with a sniper rifle, you choose your main 2 weapons and you also have pistols and whatever melee weapon your character holds. It's pretty balanced, but there's a destinct advantage in knowing where all the ammo is on each level. I like the sniper rifles close range attack, like you can zoom in, or if you use it like a normal gun it fires a few bullets in a row, making it more effective when you've no ripjack ammo left and are fleeing with a flag .

I've been trying to play through the challenge mode, damn those are tough.

I need to know something. A lot of people said the storyline in unreal tournament was terrible. What made it terrible.

You mean Unreal2?

For me I detested that storyline, it was so cheesy. Like the way she says she trusts you, just after she's dead - wow!, that was really bad, ''iritating glowy faced git said I should choose someone to trust, I choose you''. You 'choose' me? - you 'choo-choo-choose' me!. Whooowoooo miss OTT cleavage, maybe if you weren't dead that would mean something besides a cripplingly bad plot tool.

Often a storyline will have the desired effect, like concearn for the holo-chick in Halo2, when she get's left all alone. The end of Halo2 made us want more, the end of Unreal2 made me glad I only spent £10 on it. Don't get me wrong, it's not endings, it's the way the storyline ties together.

In Unreal2, they wander around trying to be political or something, gathering all these bits, then someone steals them and kills your crew at the end - thing is that you can only get away with that sort of plot 'crowbar' if anyone really cares about the crew, but they were all plebs. Pointless.

dude, it's pointless asking what makes something fun. To some people, figuring out a new way of finding a function's integral is fun. To others, programming is fun. To yet others, UT is fun. There is no fixed formula for "fun". I like UT because of... erm... the quemicals in my brain said so. I haven't played Unreal2, but normally I don't care for the stories in FPS's so I'd probably like it too. I liked Unreal1 (which had no story) and I'm still trying to finish it (haven't had the time to do so).

Arent you talking about unreal championship 2 which has the 4 weapon capacity, including the sword, default weapon plus the two other main ones you choose?

Unreal Championship 2 is much much better than the first by the way.

actually unreal 1 did have a story line. it was an allegory for the story of Jesus Christ, or at the very least a messiah story. If you try to read all of the books and transmitter notes you find you can piece it together. One of the few games that did not rely on cinematics to tell its story.
