I'm creating an FPS in Dark Basic and I have been looking for a BSP editor for quite some time now. Has anybody sucssesfully been able to download a free editor, create a level, and then import it into DBP.

Any help would be really nice,
Thanx

For a pretty reasonable introduction to a method of using the Quake Army Knife editor and Zoners Tools to compile, check out:

If you have one of the Quakes or Half Life, you might try your hand at making some maps for those games first; the tutorials and support for doing so can be much better, and all of the skills translate into later building maps for DBPro.

As far as I remember, someone got a Quark Quake3 map into DBPro. Quark is a free .bsp editor and compiler that supports half-life, quake 2 & 3 - anything you need. Best part though - no licence fees, definately a great choice if you can get it working well.

QUAKE3 and quarke 6.2 will almost definatly work for you. If you go back a few pages you can see how I solved the BSP problem for myself. I have also found half-life works but it is easier to make textures for quake 3 levels.

Apparently WOLFENSTEIN bsp maps work as well.

Also quarke expects no royalties and is completely free to commercially sell your games. However I use my own textures as I am not sure if it is OK to use Q3 textures without permission from the makers.

I`ve tried all of the BSP generators and have not got them to work at all. But I bought cartography shop and found it to be very easy to use if a little complicated on screen after a while and prehaps dosn`t have all the features of Quark or valve hammer. But it does work.

Yeah, but Carto shop isn't a .bsp editor, it's a .x editor if anything. Unless Carto's had a major update.

First thing to remember with .bsp's, they take a lot of learning, and can be a real pain the the arse.

Persevere with Quarke 6.2, it is probably the best free editor u can get. I was intimidated by it at first, yet it is very easy, in fact, cringingly easy when you get over the set up etc
