QooleXP

if you don't know... Qoole is my favourite BSP Editor of all time
This is Qoole '99 effectively, however i've fixxed ALOT and i mean ALOT of bugs from the first release.
Anyone who wants the current Source will have to email me for it.

I forgot to mention, change your render'r from MFC to MGL or OpenGL - because MFC is just WAAAY to slow, especially on non-XP machines.

Awsome Raven !

Qoole is also one of my favorite editor also, but it crashed soo much back then.

I'm happy to see that someone picked it up
I'll give it a run for it's money and let you know for sure how it goes.

Thanks,

Keep up the good work !

apparently there is a bug in the installer (my bad installer coding) ... i've gotta drop 3 files and but anyone not using XP-SP1 will require to copy them to the directories. I think its the fact that they're using the Libraries at the time which is why they can't update them, i really need a patch utility for this

a new installer will be up within the hour, slow modem is why it takes so long to upload (^_^)

i'll post again once its up

K, Here's my first bug report:

Bug #1
- during the install, mfc42d.dll failed to register.
That's pobably because it is an older version than what i have. will verify and let you know.

Bug #2
- In texture manager, you can't remove multiple texture packs.
You can only remove one at a time, then the remove button gets greyed out.
- I need to click ok to get out of texture manager, then get back in and repeat untill i get all the tex packs out.

Adding new textures and packs seems to work
Bug #3
- i hit new/halflife map, then created a simple brush(hollowed cube)
- hit save or save as, entered filename, hit OK
- Boom, crashed and goes back to desktop.

I'll try and see if all of this is not related to mfc42d not registering proprely.

my system spec.
winxp sp1
1.4 athlon, geForce 4 (4200 128 meg version)
1 gig ram <-- makes lightwave happy

oki i've fixxed the problems, god debugging of my installer took forever

i've reset the registration entries to select those which are already there, else not to register unless its a valid - and now they're installed as System Files rather than update DLLs, so they'll load on bootup which should solve some speed issues
i've also had a trouble coding the Shortcuts, because the shortcuts used are different to those used by XP itself - so it actually copied QooleXP to the desktop and then Qoole wonder'd why it couldn't find the Render DLLs.

This'll be solved next version basically because this is about application registration so i'll register Qoole to save the installation folder to the registry and then read it within Qoole - this should also solve the bug from loading externally from Qoole
Ahhh the problems are getting solve now, slowly but getting there atleast eh.

Doesn't help that this code is the worst i've ever seen in my life ... i mean its so convoluted - i've had to rewrite some sections just so its easier to reference them later, i mean how bad it that!?!

the files will finish uploading in around 10-12mins and they're the same names.

Just incase it doesn't install a Shortcut (because i'm still having trouble with them so i'm unsure if it worked... then remember where you install to and make your own shortcuts from the desktop. I'm so tired and my brain is hurting from the code
But atleast the actual installer part is working properly even if the enhancements aren't lol

i just re-downloaded the files from the link you posted at the top and this time around it installed fine, no mfc42d.dll errors.

However, the ' save / save as' still generates an error report under XP, then closes down Qoole(Crash).

I tried with a Quake2 / HalfLife / Heretic2(hehe yeah i re-installed that lately for the textures) map type.

btw: i'm running WinXP Canada/Us English version.
Could that make a diff ? Don't know.

would be great if someone else could confirm this

to be more specific:

it's the actual saving process that crashes it, not pressing the ' save / save as ' menu option.

i've been checking on this more closely... do you get an invalid memory and the problem with msvcrtd.dll?

because i've just found this problem myself, but when i tried it on my Windows XP Pro machine - i'm wondering if its because of compiling under Windows .Net Pro hmmm...
got alot of recoding to do, i'll get back to you as soon as i have something that is fully working

well don't let the XP fool you, its probably far more stable on non .Net based machines right now.

infact if you could test it on your machine for me i'd be very greatful - especially as 98 is the only Microsoft OS i never bought.
i can test on Windows 95b, 95c, Me, 2000, XP, NT 3.51, NT 4, .Net

i know there are a few differences between the home and profession versions of XP and .Net - but don't think its big enough difference.

i'll probably be recompiling the original code with the patch fixxes for the more annoying bugs suchas the Math leaks due to the poor 3D math in '99
i'm kinda tired tonite though, and gonna work through the nite to complete everything for someone else.

and BigHead i'll return your email tommorrow explaining MAP format in full - Quarks certainly isn't the best to learn from, if you download Worldcraft that is a far neater format.
