You are definately a newb not a n00b.
A couple of n00b names do spring to mind though!

Whilst many of us are dangerously teetering on the edge of n00bism, you are a rare individual who is determintedly army crawling your way through the newb slime, not willing to quit until you have proven yourself worthy to sit among gods. The game's downloading right now, looks awesome.

Dude I love the voice overs. This game is the perfect model for beginning programmers: it has clear goals, responsive controls, clear directions and has hints to the player (in the form of the acorn eater's voice) about upcoming obstacles. I like the cartoony style, fun stuff.

thank you! i like the cartoony style, thats the reason im still working on it. and, now im so happy about it that im doing stuff ive never done before: concept art and level planning!

the acorn eater will continue to kill you the second it touches you, but in future levels like the battle against the squirrels you have a few hits before you die. it will say "great" on your health meter until you touch a squirrel for about a second. then it will say "good" and so on.

edit: uh oh... does anyone know how to delete static objects? i can make squirrel wars bigger and faster running if someone could tell me how to delete static objects...

I have worked with static objects, and I don't think they can be deleted. If you want, just give all the statics boxes box collisions, and get rid of all the static commands. If you're worried about being able to jump indefinitely when you colide with a normal object wall, just add this insead of the arleady there normal object collision.

If you do add this however, you may need to say that the gravity equals acertain amount when you move through the swamp, otherwise I'm guesing that the character will just fall through.

EDIT: I once too made games based off this dbc example.

thanks! i already had a few objects with box collision and so i can delete them... and, i just realized, most of the swamp is made up of normal objects, no static collision.. that means there will only be 15 objects that i cant delete! thank you! i just didnt know that i could delete obejects with bos collision.

If you don't mind remaking any static objects you'll need for later use just use DELETE STATIC OBJECTS and it will delete all static objects.

Hello Young Programmer;

Great game! It's clear what you are meant to do, the levels are nice, the voice acting suits it very well and it's responsive.

It is a very solid first game, I hope to see it completed!
I'd go as far as to say it's one of the most playable games in the DB Simple, but effective.

Kudos,
Drew.

thanks! if i had words to describe how overwhelmed with happiness i am at all these compliments, id say them, but i dont. so here is some pictures:
there!
right now, when you finish the race, the squirrel your chasing zooms into the arcade and you chase it through. i have some flashing screens when the acorns play the games and im proud of them. plus, you get your head stuck in a virtual reality helmit and that introduces some silly, hard games. right now im working on a squirrel model, complete with animation.

I downloaded your demo, but I dont know how to open the .rar file. What do I open it with? Is it something I need to get? Also, I think that you are doing a fantastic job on you game. I could barely even use 3D objects when I first started! I still sort of can't, but I prefer to work in 2D, just because its easier to make the graphics! (Well for me anyways!)
You are doing a great job! Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!

Cheers,

I mean learning as much in programming per minute as school teaches me about anything. when i program, i never stick with old stuff. the limbs on the acorns and the squirrel model thats not in the game yet are new! the acceleration that i added to the car (its not in the demo) is very new, and i tried using the example, but it didnt work, so i devised a new method, and now it works! if im programming but not learning a mile per minute, im bored. really, really bored.

captain american: my computer cant load rar files either. i dont have a clue why.

(this is my little brother typing this, ill tell you when its me again)

(its me now)
i bet you could tell thats my little brother!

squirrel wars is sooooo far now. im doing the preview as you beat the final boss, and i have a nice particle explosion that im proud of. after that, theres the credits, then this free play where you use nutt in acorn city and explore and stuff. There is also a dumbo and cool like challenge where you use both nutt and shell in a two player challenge. hovever, im going to go back and make the swamp level longer, and mabey the level where you get to the boss also.

updates to come.

Normaly I would sugest setting your sights a bit lower, but I actualy believe you're going to get everything you say you'll do done!!

Drew should be proud. That's the second time I've heard someone consider using his idea.

wow, i love getting all these compliments! i havent been here for the last few days cuz ive been working hard on the computer on squirrel wars. the dumbo and cool-like level is no longer a idea; its reality! however, if the characters were dumbo and cool it would be pretty much the same game.

Nutt can jump high and Shell can activate pressure pads and tackle squirrels, and they need to work together to beat the level.

as for the level i talked about after the credits, i havent even started . i will soon start on it though... right now i am building the swamp. so far i have added a sign that says "danger: quicksand" and added an appropiate texture for the bad guy.

but the thing im happiest about and proudest of is the fact that i truely built this game from scratch. sure, i may have used some pre made stuff like the bad guy texture and the race car, but around 90% of what i have done is made by me. i have come a long way with squirrel wars. i started as a newb who was amazed that he had figured out gravity, progressed through the time when i was becoming more resourseful, and now i have this. particals, textures, and limbs. wow.

and, coding has also made me more patient. i dont pull my hair, yell at the computer, and stomp outside when i run into a problem, i solve it. as proof of my newfound paitence, this is problaby the longest post i have ever made.

(cough cough)
sorry for boring everyone with that novel. just wanted to express my feelings. oh damn, i spent 20 minutes writing this. oops.

Man, your getting way more out of coding than I am. I'm making my third prefessional(in my opinion) game, and I STILL get frustrated, run outside put my hair and assult people when I run into a problem.
