Game Concept

Land of Gastonia is a multiplayer fantasy/medieval RPG. Available for players to choose from will be 20 classes and 17 races. Each class is full customizable; the player chooses which skills they wish to advance as they gain in level. The races are divided into 4 kingdoms of 4 races each. The remaining race, Humans, is neutral. The game will mostly revolve around these factions, joining campaigns and wars against rivals, invading and raiding opposing kingdoms, as well as helping to defend you and your ally’s homelands.

Current Progress

Graphics : Game is still in early development. I have been mostly working on the User Interface and various other 2D Art (item icons, logo, custom font, ect) The main part I am missing is someone to make 3D models and worlds.

Coding : So far the interface is nearly complete, the basics of the 3D world engine are in place as well as a barebones setup for both client and server multiplayer communication. Mostly need to work on the Spell and Combat systems as well as improving interactions between client/server.

Screenshots

The screenshots are shrunk down and compressed, thus you miss some of the detail. For example, the "black" background behind the chat box is actually dark textured stone and shows up much better when actually in the game.

Request for 3D Modeler

I am in high need for someone who can take over creating the 3D models and worlds as I focus on coding, 2D Art and game concept. Need the skills to create fantasy type characters (dwarfs, elves, goblins, ect.) or static objects (trees, houses, wells, statues, ect.) Not required, but it would be a huge plus if they can texture and/or animate the models as well.

Feel free to contact me about the project at:

Wow looks awesome, kinda like Neverwinter nights.....

I am a 3D modeller......theres a but....I have exams for the 2 weeks left, I have to work on Rush as a main project, I have to work with Gil Givanti on Pirates of Port Royale, I promised animeblood I would model for Olympia Apocalypse which is what he is doing after Urbia, not to mention my own project Ronin.

So if you want me, it'll have to wait soz, but if you get good modellers offering between now and then, then take em, sorry I can't properly help you, because it is a project I would love to help with

i just looked at it for the second time in a day. HOW DID U DO THAT!!! It looks professional! It looks like something id go buy at "Gamestop" . I can see another "Firewall" coming, as in being an exception to the "sorry we dont sell games" rule of TGC, lol! Every time i look at the screenshots they seem to get better, lol. Once again, probably the best game ive ever seen made with DBP! Hope u finish it .

For STALKER and anyone else who wants to help out on the project, please visit the LOG forums and post under Developers Corner.

Megaton Cat - Paint Shop Pro 8 is the program I am using now to work on all the 2D art. Though many times I create a 3D model using various 3D editors and then import an image of the model to PSP and finalize the "2D" image there.

darkzuel - I posted the list of all the races and classes along with their stats/skills/ect under the Knowledge Base in the LOG forums. The forum server is updating now but it should be back up shortly.

Gil Galvanti - The 3D items (sword, bottles, coins, potions, ect) were all created using 3D modelers and then I import a screenshot of the model into PSP. From there I resize it, overlay textures, colorize and add shading and highlights using the Lighten/Darken brush. With the HUD boxes I just make a template in PSP of the size I need, apply light stone texture around the edges, dark stone texture to the background, then blend it together, round edges with the Smudge and Soften brushes. Finally use Lighten/Dark brush to add highlights/shading and cracks in the stone to give it a 3D look.

That sword looks to be made in Photoshop 7, correct me if I'm wrong. The best way to make a sword and have it look real is model it then texture it with real medals. Along with good rendering, it's a lot quicker then drawing it.

Long time since my last update post... Been busy remodeling my house but still have seemed to put a decent amount of work into the game.

Added in several new commands for the client input : Chat commands such as ... /msg playername ... /say... /shout ... /party ... As well as several misc. commands .... /quit... /whois... /afk

Added working Buff system in place - buff icons appear along the right side of the screen (max of 16 buffs total you can get on you at once) The buffs correctly add in whatever stats they have listed to your player. Left click and hold down on a buff loads the info for that buff, right clicking on it will cancel a buff.

Added the Food/Drink/Potion system in place. Now you can right click on a food, drink or potion and you will consume it and the stats/regen will be added in correctly. Also, now the FDP shows up correctly in the Equip menu. An icon of the FDP you are currently using appears, as well as a number showing you the amount of time each has before it runs out.

Added a "PC box" to the GUI. Right clicking another PC (Player Character) brings up this PC box, which has options to Trade with that player, Inspect their gear, or Invite them to a group.

Fixed a bug with inventory that would not allow you to swap 2 large items around sometimes even when there actually was enough room to do this.

Implemented an object update system within the host/client communications. Basically this is used to move all mobs around, and the same system is going to be used to move PCs around as well. Chunks of data are sent at once for a series of movements for each object. Movement using this system has shown to be very smooth and I have also added in coding to automatically adjust and compensate for any lag.

Added a system to keep track of static objects within the specific zone. The host of that zone will keep track of each objects state, wether it holds any items within, the max number of items its allowed to hold, and the time needed to regrow new items.

For example, the "Patch of Shrooms" found around the base level starts with 4 items each (Orange Feral Shrooms) Each patch will regrow another shroom every 15 minutes if the number of items it holds are less than its max (max is 4 shrooms per patch). From the client, a player can double click on a patch of shrooms and if it holds any they will pick one off and an Orange Feral Shroom will appear on that person's cursor. At the same time the Host server will update that specific object to show that one of the shrooms has been picked. After all the shrooms have been picked, double clicking on the object will get you a message that none of the shrooms in this patch are ripe yet.

Double clicking on a PC or mob will now load into the chatbox info for it. Example, double clicking on me adds in "Tharkis : Level 1 Dwarf Mercenary"

Also, fixed several bugs associated with players logging in and out of the host server.

Update Screenshots

Not really any new eye candy to post, mostly been working on straight coding - finishing out the engine and adding in better client/host communications.

By the way, the project is still open to anyone who wants to help Please post on the LOG forums if interested.

I'm aiming to release a demo within a month or so. Basically I want to have a demo with some meat to it before I release, here is what I am hoping to have done before I release:

Create a new account
Create a custom character (choose name, sex/class/race, distribute attribute points)
Log in to the world under your character (server should be able to load data, and save data after you log off)
Move around in the world (server should update your location to other ppl logged in)
Client should be able to update locations/status of other players , as well as NPCs
Chat and send messages to other players that are logged in
Interact with static objects (Gather water from a well, pick flowers, gather mushrooms, ect)

I don't intend to have combat added by the time I release the demo so for now it's going to be a "kinder gentler RPG" Meaning you can walk around and chat with people, gather resources, but not much else. The basic engine is mostly complete, mainly I need to work on loading and saving data from the server. Currently all data is created on the fly when you log on, and nothing is saved when you log off.

Got the login/account system working. For the login screen, gonna try to add a particle effect on the sword blade to make it look like it's shining. Also, will probably add a 3D scene in the background at some point, but for now just trying to get the nuts and bolts of the game working. I'll go back and add that stuff later, for now going to move on to character creation.. where'd WOLF and his program go

Wow that's...a pretty ambitious Character class list. O_o

And don't worry about getting 3D modellers. They'll be flocking to you at the rate and quality you're going.
