I manage to find a Kit on games programming using Dark basic. But to my dismay.. the dark basic version included is ver. 1

are there any Books out there can be used as a primer to dark basic?

or even a tutorial that at least teaches you the basics?

I know basic and other languages. But whats the use of it if our gonna do alot of trial by error trying to see what works or not, on the help menu.

1000 or so functions is alot.

I think they should write a more or less complete tutorial to get newbies to dbpro up and running

There is a book just published by PremierPress by Johnathan Harbour. "DarkBasic for Beginners" or something. Very basic but well written. Just do a search on Amazon.

This is a email I wrote to Mr. Harbour back on 2/10/2003,
and the results:

-----------------
Dear Mr. Harbour;

I'm enjoying your book very much, so far it has been very easy to read and a
joy to look at. I hope you and Mr. Smith and the guys at DBS Inc. are putting
the NEXT step into action... a "Dark Basic Professional" Game
Development Programming Book, Me for one and ALOT of others would very
much support this and more....as a matter of fact I look forward to the thought!

Good Luck, and I hope all your sales are happy ones

Warm Regards,
Lawrence

oops accidently hit the.....?#@$, we need a edit option...

Response from Mr. Harbour:
--------------------------

Lawrence,

Not even done yet and already looking forward to a sequal, eh? =) Well, a second edition is definitely possible, although that is entirely based on sales, at which point we could go in and revise and add new chapters. I would have loved to really dig into the advanced features of DBPro, but alas, it is a beginner's book, and it's very important to understand the intended audience and stick to it. This really is supposed to be a "first" book for people who have never written a program before, and we are trying to market the book in schools now.

Do let us know what you think of the remaining chapters, and thanks for the feedback!
