Hey all,

Hopefully you won't get bored by my job threads. I just had an interview today during my lunch break at my current job, and had 5 or 6 guys fielding questions at me. Finally they called me to let me know I'm hired!

No more programming image editing software for me--- now I can finally work on video games. I can't talk about the game we're creating, but all I can say is we are receiving Xbox 360 dev kits any day now, and the title will be released on it and the PS3 sometime next year.

It's a startup company, so getting in on something early is very exciting I'll keep you updated once I'm allowed to talk more about the game!

EDIT:

Poor ROBOI will have to wait a while to be completed

Hey, are MGS one of the publishers that you guys were gunning for?
I mean it'd be pretty awesome if you got them, cause then you could help me online; keep getting royally owned by one of our rival companies on Halo 2.

Heh actarus teleported for a quick visit from his distant universe...hi!

Hey that's awsome news Jake. Hope it all goes well and this startup company doesn't run itself into the ground.

Looking forward to seeing the type of game you'll be working on!

Yeah I'm passing by as per usual but you know space, eventually, things come back around their original orbital points.Unless I go supernova.

Thanks for welcoming this old man

BTW:Jake, that would be nice to know your full name,I understand the company wouldn't want you to publically state that you work for them but usually they don't mind,it's the artists/coders that prefer not to.(think EA)

Congrats, but if I may make one request.... remember all the little guys you had to step on to get where and keep visiting these lowly forums once in a while. Also hopefully bring what you've learned about gaming problems and creativity to your new job(so I don't have to have the same problems as before.)

Anyway, congats again and good luck!
P.S. If you give away any game secrets here we won't tell right guys.

I agree with DJ. Out of all the projects, teams, and game systems Raven claimed to have worked on over the years, we'll finally have someone who's shoes don't squish everyday on the way to work because they're filled with bullsh*t.

Quote: "(No offence to Raven and his er...line of work ofcourse)"

I have taken offense to both comments, suggest you strip them from your posts. Jake has offered no name for the company he will be working for (currently he is not allowed to), so right now there is no way for him to provide anyone with proof of his claim.

While I know that it is, and also know who it is (and where it's located now) .. fact is you don't so right now you just have his word on it. There is nothing to say that he is not making any of this up as far as anyone knows. So refrain for trying to throw your crap around the forums about you personal beliefs about peoples line of work or claims.

(Jake, wasn't trying to say anything against you. Just making a point, hope you understand.)

Seriously Raven, there's a difference between saying you've got a job with a startup company and aren't allowed to disclose anything, and claiming to have worked for EA, Westwood and Blizzard in a span of 8 years, without showing any proof, or breaking any NDAs for that matter.

You're a crapface and Jeku is a sexy man steak, just deal with it like the sockpuppet ninny you are.

Jeku, I'm interested in what your work environment is gonna be. I've seen in "making of" movies of video games, and the developers are all in a big house like area. But I've also heard that EA games has offices for their developers. Where are you going to work?

Thanks again for the good support, guys

I'll just answer a few questions here:

Quote: "Tell us as soon as you can what the game is, will ya?"

Definitely! The first day of the job (July 11th) I'll ask the head guys what I can and can't tell people. Then I'll post the info here because I know I'd be interested if I were you guys

Quote: "Congratulations Jeku. Did you know they were coming for you?"

I seriously thought it was going to be the two founders asking me non-technical questions. Turns out it was the lead programmer on the project asking all the questions! Good thing I was reading my C++ reference book on the train to work that morning to be safe!

Quote: "i think your supposed to hate gay's....yet you seem to like them so very much on this forum."

I don't want to get in on this side topic, but are you calling me gay?

Because this game will be made by a small team, we will all be in one big room. This will ensure that we have full and immediate access to anything we need from each other. As for EA, I've worked for them as a tester AND a programmer, and where I worked out of (EA Blackbox) all of the developers were in open cubicles. Think Dilbert without the tall walls

Jeku is a very well respected & trusted member of this forum. I've personally had some minor exchanges with him in the past and I can see what type of person he is.

"So right now there is no way for him to provide anyone with proof of his claim"

Jake has absolutly nothing to gain from simply lying about this. If he does lie, it always comes back to bite you in the ass as I'm sure you know this well.

Hey all, news here from the battle lines

I've been working at the new place for the past week, and let me say how HARD it is to create a game from scratch.

I have more experience working by myself on projects, so it is quite a big change for me.

Interesting things I've found: each and every single aspect of each and every single part of the game comes from debates that seem to last days. Everyone has different ideas. It's neat how the producers throw ideas and the programmers verify whether it's possible and how to do it. Very cool dynamics.

Well, I still don't know what I can say about the product, but I can say that it will be released next year. We're working with brand new technology, if that gives a little hint.

We're a pretty small company, all of us cranking this baby out from two small offices. I've been assigned to the physics, so there's a lot of work to do. It's really hard to imagine the difficulties until you actually work with a team on a commercial game.

I'll keep you posted if you're interested

Firstly congrats Jeku and secondly - Cubicles!?

All this talk of this talk about jobs in Game Development has given me an idea. This has probably been suggested before but - has anyone ever considered buying office space and forming a games company with ppl (local to you) from the TGC forums? hmmmm. I guess you'd need a lot of capital to start as you wouldn't be taking in a constant income at first but.....who knows? I don't.

there's a lot to be said for unspeakable acts...
