hmm...that is strange (not having much luck ar we - lol)

i wonder if i am approaching this rite - correct if im wrong - i can provide as a host by entering my IP and thus creating a new multiplayer session and the client (ie you) can enter MY IP address and join the session becaus it is active - is that the right theory?

I don't think that is an internet IP, it looks more like some private network IP. Which would explain why no one can connect. Have a look here: http://www.whatsmyip.net

Edit: Actually it seems to be some sort of internet IP. I did a lookup and it says AOL, so I assume you use AOL? If so, its your other IP that you need to use, not the one that you are using right now.

I'm not sure exactly, I haven't used AOL in almost 4 years now. What IP do you get when you visit [href]www.whatsmyip.net[/href]? I think actually in AOL there is some way to see both IPs, because one of my friends looks them up sometimes. Try looking in the AOL helpfiles on how to see both IPs.

Edit: Oh ok. If no one can connect, make sure your firewall is disabled and that if you have a router, you have the correct port forwarding set.

this is doing my head in!

okay, i use AOL with a DSL modem, using 512K
I have filters for seperate channel that make seperate physical connections (phone, fax, pc etc...) that come together in one unit (is this a router?).

If it is a router HOW can i find out my IP address (not the AOL one)

-im confused

right ive done some more backgroud reading. I haven't got a router. at the minute im connected to the internet via AOL using a 512K DSL modem from BT.
I have looked at all myt networfk connections. What my LAN does is obtain IP addresses automatically - this setting maybe the reason to not allow you as the client to join my hosted mulitplayer session.
Now, i could set a static IP address so that everyone could join my session at the same IP address, the roblem with this is that i don't know how to, preciselcy and don't know where to get my actual IP address from. As mentioned by Benjamin above, AOL uses some other IP address, what I want is my REAL IP address.

Now, would i have to uninstall AOL and use something like IE to access my real IP address instead of connecting through frigging AOL or is there a proper way of retreiving my real IP address (as if AOL did not exist on my machines at all). Any advice welcome (i'm going crazy back herer )
