I have just uploaded the Banshee Studios retro programming competition entry and it's available for all to download. It's a remake of the ZX Spectrum classic Jetpac.

We decided not to keep the entry secret but to show you all what we've done because, well, we're show offs. Enjoy.

Why does it try to connect to the Internet when you start it?

You're right - it doesn't at all. Very nice game (now I finally managed to download it!)

Cheers,

Yes sorry the server was inundated with downloads last night and I expect service to remain sporadic for a few days as is normal when I release a new game. This is the case because I have limited bandwidth but hey - NO ADVERTS! YAY!

That was one reason why I chose to release the game on Monday when net usage is - at least in theory - lower.

Nice Pneumo (How else can you shorted down "PneumaticDrill" ??)

I'm sure that Rich will find the game an explosive experience (If you don't get it read the wavy text on the bottom of the game screen for a while )

great title i played with the fir button constantly on....Reminded me of the good ol arcades lol. A little off topic but I really did fall in love with Gettin Shot Up what a game, strangle enough best AI I have seen so far lol I like the way they hide behind trees.

Yeah, that was really good, especially for so little time spent on it. Good Job. My only quarrel is that the wavy text goes for waaay too long lol. =)

Thanks for the compliments and on the Gettin Shot Up AI. I know the game is old now and looks a little dated but that AI really is very good and i'm very proud of it.

It's a multi-tiered AI, meaning the AI never forgets what it set out to do - stopping to engage you whilst on patrol, retreating during a fight and re-engaging from a flank... the AI's will try to out-think you and keep their mission in mind. Tactically they are very astute and keep you on your toes - but strategically they are a bit dumb. Oh well you cannot have it all

Every time I start it Zone Alarm asks if I want to give it rights to connect to the Internet...something's happening to make ZoneAlarm fire up?!

Andy (Pneumatic) here on Nicks PC.

There is nothing in the Jetpac code for it to act as a server or open any TCP/IP ports of any kind.

I wonder if there is an aspect of the multiplayer code that gets intialised by another routine in DBPro? I've no answers for you sorry - but Jetpac isn't doing it.

I suggest denying Jetpac connection for your own peace of mind, as net connection really wont make the blindest bit of different to the game.

I've not used zonealarm for some time as I now have a little black box - but perhaps there is something in your zonealarm configuration - maybe 'first run' for all programs?

Over 300 downloads so far and we're getting some feedback now and are considering making some subtle revisions. The highest score to date is 94650 by one of our beta-testers, Paul.
