Is it just me? Or has anyone else noticed that whenever nintendo latches onto a decent game, (ie. once a century), they re-use that same idea over and over and over and over and over and over again?
Take this for an example - Pokemon:
Red
Blue
Yellow
Pinball
Pinball 2
Trading Card Game
Gold
Silver
Crystal
Stadium
Stadium 2
Snap!
Ruby
Sappire
and countless other spinoffs and ripoffs...

In other words, Nintendo sucks, go Sony!

And, it's not just pokemon either -

Everyone does this. Sonic, final fantasy, crash bandicoot, tekken, the list goes on. Why stop if the titles are making lots of $$$? TV series do this as well, power rangers for example. Make some cheapo taiwanese toys and make series apon series of low budget childrens programs to try and flog as many as you can. Pretty much the same idea with Pokemon.

And this just sounds like a "I hate Nintendo" thread. Did you think about the basis of your arguement before you posted this thread? Quit moaning and go and do something worthwhile with your time.

They aren't all the same type of game. I personally loved the stadium games, and the trading card game. I agree its almost ridiculous that they made so many of the same kind of game(blue, red, yellow, etc) but hey, if its selling then other people obviously don't think so. When people get bored of games, they stop buying them, which means Nintendo stop making those particular games. It makes complete sense.

Think of mario 2 and 3 as extra levels for 1, then you'll see why people like them. And its not just that, the game's design and gameplay improves with sequels. Mario kart was just pure class, and very different from the classic mario platformers. Its just like a cartoony go-kart game, with your favourite characters. Whats wrong with that?!

Tony hawk games are up to god knows how many, gta is up to what 5 as well counting the 2/2d and 3/3d versions out. Fact is if people want a game and buy copies there is always going to be sequels hell final fantasy is up what 11 or is it 12? don't blame the software or hardware companies blame the consumers.

Sony have got their own game series, Gran Turismo. Maybe it doesn't have a mascot for them to overuse but the thing is that anything that is commercial will be milked by international companies!

Harry Potter probably wouldn't have as many books (or films) as it has if the first one wasn't a success.
Was Police Acedemy ever popular? They did 8 of those, I think!
Anyone heard of Hello Kittie? It's the world's most used copyright.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer had a load of seasons and two spin-off series!
Star Trek has had more spin-offs then you can wave a still at, and more films then Police Acedemy!

Again, the list goes on, it's not just games that've been milked for more then they're worth!

Hey, people, I didn't mean for this to be a "lets have a riot and slag off other people while were at it" thread. I was just making a point that Nintendo seems to have re-used old ideas more than ,say, sony or microsoft. Sure, I sarcasmed it a bit, but thats just how I am.
I know that loads of ppl recycle good ideas, but come on!
Paper Mario? Mario Tennis? Please! If anyone has actually watched The decline of video gaming, you might have noticed that in 2059, There is a whole board of mario games, from "Mario does the weekly shopping" to "Mario sets the VCR" to "Mario visits the toilet". It's scary just thinking about these future games. What's even scarier is that mario/zelda/pokemon games are edging closer and closer to this pitiful waste of a CD/Cart.
You could argue that Nintendo are " giving the ppl what they want" or "they are appealing to the mass market", but it just looks like they are deliberately milking these games for every last cent they're worth.It just seems a shame that something as noble as "Legend of Zelda" has resorted to such diminishing and effortless affairs as "Legend of Zelda: The Minish cap" and "Legend of Zelda: The Lampshade of No Real Significance". (Guess which one is made up).

Just because some TV show predicted it, doesn't mean it is going to happen. I highly doubt Nintendo will make a game called "Mario sets the VCR" I actually find Paper Mario very fun, Mario Tennis isn't cheesy at all either. Just because it sounds bad doesn't mean it is dumb. I am going to take a stab in the dark and say you do not own a Gamecube and have not played a majority of the games you are putting down.

i personally own a GC, my friend has an XBox and my other friend has a PS2.
i only like 1 maybe 2 games from the xbox that my friend has (he owns about 20-30 games, and they're high rated games too), i dont like any games on my friends PS2, and i have about 10-15 games for my GC, love them all.

and you guys can say the same thing but change it, some love the XBox because the games that they have are for them.
battling which is the greatest is kinda like battling who's religion is the most correct.

The only games I slag off are games I don't like, not games that people have told me they don't like. You see, I have my own opinion, obviously you haven't. You've just heard someone say "Nintendo reuses ideas too much" and thought "Well, I don't know exactly if this is true, but lets pretend it is so I can vent my anger off that I didn't get my ice cream by saying how crap they are!".

Crash Bandicoot - 3 multi system games, 3 gba games
Spyro the dragon - 1 multi system game, 4 gba games, 1 ds game in queue
Solid Snake - ported to gamecube & xbox
Jin Kadama - Is this someone from Tekken? If so Tekken is on GBA and in the arcade is published by Namco0no connection with Sony. I've never seen fighting game characters make strong lead characters, though it would be interesting.
Parappa the Rapper - It's original, but it's not too terribly popular.
Saminosuke - This guy's from Onimusha right? It would work were it not for the fact that Onimusha games (not necessarily with Saminosuke in them) have appeared on Xbox and GBA and there's talk of one for DS.
Tommy Verceti/CJ - Except GTA is out for PC and Xbox, odds are more in MS's favor if anyone's.


In reality Sony has 4 things to work with:
Jak and Daxter
Ratchet and Clank
Lara Croft
FF7

I don't think the FF7 stuff will go because it deviates from the series' premise, and like you said FF was on other consoles. Though this one was wildly popular.
Lara Croft's last couple games have stunk, so if they want to use this they have to pick up the pace. Sony could use it were it not for the fact that series' resurrector, Tomb Raider Legend, is coming out not just for PS2 but also Xbox, Xbox360, and PC.

Jak and Daxter, and Ratchet and Clank are always the ones that I hear PS2 being praised for. It would be a smart move on Sony's part to nourish these two.


What Nintendo has over Sony and Microsoft is that most of their franchises are original IP, developed in house. Microsoft lucked out with Master Chief being the idol of testerone-pumped young gentlemen, and they were smart to buy up Bungie. You can see that Sony is starting too see how useful this is with all the new FF7 games.

Some of the ripoff games aren't the greatest, but they're a better than most games. Mario Tennis64 is one of my all time favorite games. As is Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers. If this games were all junk it probably wouldn't help, but Nintendo actually tries to make good games.

If I am not mistaken Solid Snake was orginally on the Nintendo Console and they still have Metal Gear games for nintendo consoles. Lara Croft was for other systems too. Like the PC for a example and Nintendo GB.
Guess what crass bandicoot is on all three systems. And its not the offical sony mascot. Spyro the dragon Is for other systems also. Most of the games that I see on the list are devloped by other companys. Never heard of Jin Kadama tho. I know Parappa the Rapper was made by sony.

Dude your just a fanboy. I love ps2-Xbox(not the hard drive)-GameCube and pretty much any system with a fun game.

I bet you don't even know that PS was suppose to be a attachment for the Super NES.

If I were you. I would not get mad at a company that makes most of the games for there own hardware and pretty much supports them selfs. Sony publishes more games than devlopes them.

Just because a character appeared on a console doesn't make him a company mascot.
I agree with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, but Lara Croft isn't a sony mascot so she's not theirs to exploit the way Nintendo does with Mario. And another thing, none of the characters you mentioned are anywhere near as popular as mario. No use making hundreds of Crash Bandicoot games if they're not going to sell. I've never even heard of Ratchet and Clank.

Nintendo's tendency to "re-use" their creations is hardly a problem.

Sony committed a worse act by spamming its library with endless hoards of crap games (I know because I rent games frequently). What is the ratio of good to bad games?
Not to mention Sony's inflated console sale numbers due to the poor quality of their console. I am on my second PS2 and I know two others personally who are on their 4th and 3rd.

You are officially a Hype Whore.

Before you knock the games, play them and find out their quality. If you have your gaming choices based on the opinions of others, you are a tool.
