When ever I start DBpro or any of its compiled .exe's My firewall warns me that they are trying to access the internet. Um, why?

I think you'll find its probably DirectX, possibly DirectPlay.

As for the information it sends, I've no idea.

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

You might have a paranoid firewall? There is nothing DBPro checks via the 'net without you first telling it to do so (i.e. using network commands in your code). Trust me on this - it definitely doesn't.

Cheers,

I have a ZoneAlarm Pro on my system and even with all the settings fully up I don't get this problem. I can assure you that unless you use the NET commands in your programs DBP does not try to access the internet or send any data.

Its because of DirectPlay... Norton simply detects the ability to utilise the ports, as DarkBasic Professional has this ability through DirectPlay and its FTP commands it will popup and ask you how you want to treat it.

It keeps you much safer by mothering your system, but can get annoying - you can turn off the options for find this detection ... or set it up to always accept it.

not just your norton... everyones norton - i prefer an over cautious Firewall to one which will turn a blind eye to somethings

if you use ZoneAlert though the funny thing is unless you set its options up, all it will do is TELL you someone is hacking your system - won't do anything.
Kinda like a neighbour when you get home and he goes
"oh you were robbed" ...
"i was really? how do ya know?" ...
"oh cause i saw it, thought i best tell you before doing anything thou"

lmao i think firewalls like that are just amusing

Ya I have just the opposite promblem. When I run many DB or DBPro EXE. I get disconnected from the net. I wonder if is just my connection though, out here the power lines are made of coat hangers, so the phone lines are worst. In fact it's about time for our quarterly power outage.

ZoneAlert

you mean ZoneAlarm? - and I do have it all set up. At least - it keeps telling me it "Blocked" connection attempts.

I have never heard that zonealarm doesn't work.
There is a test of sorts at www.grc.com that you could try.

Why does this forum only work properly with internet explorer?
You can't view code snippets and the buttons above the message box don't work.
