Hi Sorry I haven't updated for ages, work is still going on with this. I have fixed lots of the major graphical problems, such as flickering textures, lightmapping errors and texturing problems on the doors/windows.

I am now working on a lot more guns / weapons and nicer models & textures, as well as trying to get the dbpro exporting, vehicles and terrains 100% in and working accurately

[edit] um as for other modesl, sorry I can't use any turbosquid / 3dcafe stuff etc it would have to be specifically made for me and donated by the author. However now I've sorted out most of my texturing and modelling problems, I'll be trying to stick to my internal media formats etc for the commercial release, but will allow inputing of other models which people can upload for people to downlaod and use Thanks, Sam

@Kanga, me squid isn't very turbo, I've done its tentacles and its low poly, and found a really lazy way to animated them with good quality, hoping it'll work, as it doesn't use limbs or bones

Pretty well, nothing too complex yet, but veratinly capable of things like talking npcs and leveling up / learning skills once ststs reach certain points...

Or a copy of Maya Unlimited would be a nice free gift, and Mac to use it on, thats very very very powerful

Hi Um no there won't be a free version, for 2 reasons. 1: I have kids to feed, and 2: it has a dbpro export, and I don't want people claiming they wrote "da codez"

However! the demo versions will ALWAYS be free to download and with no limitations on time etc. They will be limited to one level but I may well put a save function in there, so that people using the demos can downlaod demos people make and upload demos they have made So, yeah, a free version of sorts is on the horizon.

As has been pointed out, the full version will be a VERY cheap product anyway for what you'll get I mean, you realise that once fully implemented it has features that are only supported by programs that cost thousands of dollars to commercially use?? :S anyway...

Progress
Got some really nice and varied looking weapons made now. Also building a simple Model editor which will be free with the software for making weapons, prefabs, objects etc. Its really nice and easy to use, far simpler than milkshape or the like, especiually for texturing. I wrote this for me cos I'm not too great at modelling, but even I can get some nice results So I'll edfinitely inlcdue this in a demo once its a lot more stable and user friendly.

I was hoping to upload a demo around the end of this month, thats looking slightly less like now as I'm nearing completition quicker than I thought I would be so a in discussuions with certain publishers. Rest assured though I will keep posting info and demos as soon as is physically possible, probably eraly next month.

Thanks all Sam

Suggestion!:

Maybe add DGSDK export? It's easy (not for me, I can't do anything(almost)in DBPro), just a wee bit different. Maybe you can get the manual somewhere.

You know it already outputs to DBPro code don't you? (well the next big demo will anyways, I'm still fixing the code output up to be neater and readbale to other people )

I haven't looked into Dark SDK much, for two reasons. 1: I gave up on C++ a long time ago ( I had a job doing it and just got so fed up of it it wasn't fun anymore! ) and 2: The only advantage I could see over using DBPRo with dlls for extra stuff I need would be a speed increase - but using Newton to deal with collisions and physics means this runs pretty blisteringly fast anyway

Thats not to say I won't consider it in the futrure if there's enough ibterest... out of curiosity, why would you like a Dark SDK export version? I would have thought that the majority of people wanting a drag and drop style game creator wouldn't want to go within a mile of c++ or the like? No offense, just interested in why people might want such a thing

If you need help with some of the coding, I could help make some modules for free for the FPS part, and I could also contribute some cshop prefabs converted to .x format to use in the editor for prefabs.

Hi gamedev - sorry I didn't see your post - for some reason it didn't show as having an unread post in the forum for me Coding is pretty much sorted unless I post random questions every know and then when I get stuck

As for models and prefabs, as I said all are very welcome and will be put on a free website at some point. However the main included models etc will be done by me now as I've got a new method for making them easily and that way they'll all "match" when put together in games

Development is coming along slowly with this been having a very hectic time at home and work - but I'm on schedule and coming way back on track now Won't be long tioll a commercial release, and there will allso be a fully featured non time restricted free demo version I'll update with more detaqls and screenies as they come along, will probably make a proper website and blog for it soon too

Oops, I didn't see your question. Well, I dont know......it just might be useful.

I ALWAYS have flame proof jacket...just in case...and a shotgun. If you want any, just ask!

We are all nice, except for that one who's name starts in a m and ends in erranvo.

I emailed Kangeroo2 a few weeks ago but didn't get a response.
Also I noticed that the website still isn't updated.

Is the release of the software canceled ?

Hi everyone No this isn't cancelled, quite the opposite actually, its going really well. However I haven't been able to post any details as I was discussing various publishing issues with people and some people asked me to hold back on the information till I made a decision. However I decided that going through a publisher wouldn't give me the freedom I would like to have to add new features etc as time progresses, so I'm going to market this myself. I'm predicting a release around the 15th of december, with many cool new features. Expect a significant update in the next week and a blog to update everyday to show progress soon

Sorry for any un answered emails etc until details are finalised I can't say to much, but all will be clear within the week I promise

Ahh how quickly a week can fly by I'm basically working mostly on media now, my hope is that by mid december I'll have a demo and commercial version available with lots of included media, initally mostly fps weapons of many styles, vehicles and prefabs / walls / items etc aimed at fps. The real time consuming one is 3rd person models and characters, these will be added as time goes by. 3rd person, top down, iso and many other camera modes are programmed in now, but no palyer / enemy models to show it off with. But as far as level creation and weapons objects and indoor and outdoor scenery goes this should be pretty huge I'll post screen shots occasionally in the next moneth, but I'm really spending as much time as I can doing this so won't be on the forums enormously until close to the next release

Firstly, it's cool to see this is still going!
Self - marketting is the best in my opinion, and there is definately a market for this kind of tool so you'll have no problems there.

Roll on December 15th!

thanks drew, I appreciate your advice

Still on target for dec 15th - reluctant to post screenies until releasing the demo though, want to keep comments fresh and new in a proper new topic so ppl don't confuse the old demos for including the new stuff etc
