ARGH I wrote a long reply and my internet lost its signal when posting it. ARGH. Here's the condensed version:

It was a bit of humour from me. Thre's an unwritten rule that once and insult is thrown you can lock a thread. I jokingly asked for once so the A team thread, which was treading a very find and fuzzy line, suddenly came lockable.
And yes I agree it was a complete mess.
It's hard to handle something like that once it's taken off, while pleasing everybody. You'll always get complains.

I said you're seeing problems where there are none when you suggested some members of hte community are less than genuine. I completely sympathise with you over the slap, and have noticed myself how restrained you have been. Well done
