im not the creator of that model though. i use it in my zombie game. but if its ok with gil (and jonny ree ofcorse, who made it) then we might use that model in the game aswell, afterall it is a great model.

i know im not much of an artist and this was the best i could do out of the photo you gave me, lol i think you should do it yourself or request from heckno or someone heckno is rather good with human models.

@Seppuku: lol .

Quote: "oh, gil, by the way. im working on the website at the moment. the "admin panel" is starting to take shape

soon we can post "news" much easier, we will get an guest book and we can administrate them both through the "admin panel"
just so you know.

and id rather stay away from dbp for a while if that is ok? i just dont feel like touching it"

ok, thats fine, just tell me when your ready to work in DBP again .

@Wigget: Ok, np, if something comes up where you can help, ill tell you .

Gil: What I mean is should I get the main source for the game before programming? I am going to need to know how you are structuring the game to make the save/load system, and what I mean for level design is the buildings and putting them in the world and placing all the entities.

Oh, ok, ill send it to you later today.

lol, k, ill TRY to get some up today , but i g2g to church right now, when i get back ill try to get some with the talk system in the game .

EDIT: K, I'm working on getting the screens, but Lukas, how could i position each of the people objects individually? All i can figure out how to do is position all of them, because i dont know their object number, because its generated by the free object function.

K, our plan for loading areas will look like this.:
X=Player
F=Fog
L=Low Poly
H=High Poly

-------------------
|F F F|F F F|F F F|
|F L L|L L L|L L F|
|F L L|L L L|L L F|
-------------------
|F L L|H H H|L L F|
|F L L|H X H|L L F|
|F L L|H H H|L L F|
-------------------
|F L L|L L L|L L F|
|F L L|L L L|L L F|
|F F F|F F F|F F F|
-------------------
The world will be divided into "areas", like on the diagram, which has 9 areas. The area the player is in will be high poly, no matter where he is in it, because it would be too complicated to make the different parts change depending on where he is within the area. So, the program will check which area the player is, put it in high poly, and make surrounding areas low poly, with the fog blocking furhter view. An area will probably be about 50-100 yards, unless this is too big and the FPS is still too low. So, sadly, I'm going to have to add fog, but it shouldnt be too close, and the surrounding areas will appear to be detailed, but will really just be low poly. The main reason im posting this is to ask if anyone wants to program this part of the game.

@Heckno: LOL .
@Gamedev: Actually, you dont really need the code to make a save/load function. If you make a working function first then I'll give you the code. I just dont want to give it out without being sure that your actually going to work, and not just steal the code first .

EDIT: BTW, Lukas do you happen to still have the PoPR design document i sent you a while back? For some reason i cant find it .

Okay, I am half way there with the function. I am going to use a text file at first to save the data, then I will use a special *.gpr (Gil's Pirates of Port Royale) format later on. Do you want me to save all of the npc positions, or just the day and time and the npcs would appear in a certain place depending on the day and time of day?

@Seppuku: lol. BTW, that model is a place holder. I'm waiting for Heckno's awesome models.

@Gamedev: cool . I think it should save stats, time, weather, player position, NPC position, inventory, quests and relationships. The NPC's will appear in a certain place at night and day eventually, but if you just store the position, it shouldnt matter, because a different piece of code will dictate where they are.

EDIT: Oh, and what do you mean when you say mapping?

Gil, we really need to do something about that terrain
can i try to give it a new texture? one that is a little more detailed.

btw. today is the big day: wednesday. im gonna go check on my pc. its been repaired hopefully. sadly i have never used it and i have had it for 1 week allready if the computer is not fixed by today i... dont know what i will do..

also, do you think we will need waves on the water? if so i can try to work something out. we can use shaders and use a plane where we get awesome looking water with reflections, or we can use a matrix with "real" waves. what do you think?? maybe we could work out a way to mix them both.. hmm

yeah, i know , thats just the one automatically generated by geoscape . Sure, you could try a new texture. Good luck with the PC . I was thinking we should have waves on the water, but i dont want to do a real matrix, because that would eat up the FPS. Reflections would be awesome! .

Computer was down yesterday, so nothing was done. Gil, I will give you the basic load/save function soon and show you how to implement it with a certain program that I will make that would save and load values. What I mean by mapping is for texturing, level editing with cshop, and placing entities.

Gil, how do you place your NPCs and cameras throughout the level? if you are using your own editor, I could redesign that. The save function is almost complete, I need to do the load next.

@Heckno: Like i said in the email, awesome .
@Lukas: OH...MY...GOSH! Thats awesome!!!!! I didnt know you could do that! Thanks!!! BTW, I need to send you an update of the code and the areas, they are a lot more complete now, i just realized that you have older ones. I'll post it up on our public HTML thing.

EDIT: Okay, Lukas, I've posted an updated NPC text, sections, and code. Just copy the contents of the update folder directly into your main engine folder, overwriting whatever you already have. You already have the same implemented talk system, dont you? Or do you? If you dont just tell me and I'll post it too. Also, you may notice that the "area 2.x" and "area 3.x" or arent positioned right, and neither of them are complete (area 2 is only partially sketched out in CS4 and I have yet to combine the rest of area 3 together with that area 3. So, just wanted to let you know i was in the process of scaling and positioning and combining those 2 areas, but now area 1 is complete (for the most part).

sent you an email again.. but now i remembered i forgot to put the ocean code in it you got the correct password anyhow

yeah, i think that would be great. the more the merier or whatever it is called. the more programmers, the faster a demo or maybe we all will become confused but i think we will do well, so far we have

going to send the ocean source now..

cool, yup, thats the saying .
Quote: "the faster a demo or maybe we all will become confused "

lol, its ok, i wont hire a lot more, just a few .

BTW, if you dont mind, and if you really care, your title is now, and really has been, just unspoken, more of a "co-producer/co-lead programmer/vice president of the game", because i think youve been with the project the longest, contributed the most (dont worry nitrixik your not forgotten, but your not on the team anymore ), and it seems like your hopefully going to stay on the team for a while . Anyways, just wanted to say that before we hire more people, because i want you to know that you are "higher in command than them, and can kick them off the team and manage them or whatever (with reason of course ), like FXGamer.

EDIT: Oh, and your the only team member who has updated code and media , and will be if more people join until they make something, just in case someone joins to get the code .
