wow, how most wickedly awesome!! thanks ill take that title with open arms and smiling ...eh.. face(?)

the clock is 02:50 here.. i will just have a quick look in that updated file and then i'll probably go to bed

oh, and the ocean shader and some code on how to implement it into the engine is in that crazy folder in the public_html

edit,
great, now it is starting to take shape but i noticed that whenever a NPC was in the screen, the fps dropped from 300 to 80... is that my code you think?

lol .

Quote: "edit,

no, thats mostly the island and its 15,000+ poly's, lol, rem it out and its faster. (we've got to do something about that ). Your code barely slowed it down. And, it really wont jump that much, i just havent gotten back to regulating the FPS with the sync rate command, i was testing how fast it was capable of with all the poly's on screen. Your welcome to set it to where its consistant .

EDIT:Being an obsessed Harry Potter fan, i was watching a TV Spot that was on Swedish TV posted on mugglenet.com, and i discovered how cool Swedish was, lol. The way they say Harry Potter was hilarious, and awesome, lol. It sounds like they accent it twice, it sounds cool. Anyways, you being Swedish, just wanted to tell you that thats really the first time I've actually heard Swedish spoken (not including Swedens speaking english with an accent), and its awesome, lol, but looks confusing with all the accents and marks for the letters. It's like they bounce their voice up and down, lol. If you really care, the thing i listened to was: http://webbtv.tv4.se/webtv/metafile.asx?MSG=w0FtgU2caNZbujpnUafVRPHMpLlbDCQYF0h22jEpdGZLFH7q9dPQLJusRtHpg8p53x6TgUfiN6m)cSOxmiUEA7RSaNKUzQfDudSS5OA6MsHN6pftzhS(6y70zdAnKE5Q2g5jEvg70ZXLeadMHzwPDSc6XrMQhk1J6x9BPt0hbJuSOx7yTwSN)4etRDFFXRzTC1gyQw6Mtuj(tR6hMeBlFw!!&test=6. It was wierd seeing subtitles in another language for once and the people speaking in english, cause I'm used to the other way around when theres two languages, lol. Yeah, so just a random side note .

Nice water, I tried making water like that, but I couldn't get it to work, I applied the bumapmap to an object, gave it reflection and transparency, but didn't work, so Lukas, how'd youget yours to work?

@Lukas: haha, cool.
@Seppuku: Yeah, ask Lukas for the code, its incredibly easy, and is only like 20 lines of code, which you can just copy and paste from the file that he gives you.
BTW, I'll be gone today, I'm going to a football (american football, i know what we call football Europe calls soccer ), game thats a couple hours away.

@Lukas, thanks will look at it, dunno how my pc is working with DBP yet, but seems to work fine with C4D now (so the gun I started on your other project, hopefully will be along shortly)

Quote: "(american football, i know what we call football Europe calls soccer ),"

Europe football = soccer and well I'm not gonna say it, but will anyway, tis a sissy sport Sure they got that tough bald referee, but he don't scare me, bet he likes pink fluffy bunny rabbits (which mean I and him have something in common )

American Football is just rugby with padding, but people throwing their weight around more
Personally the best spectator sport is female mud wrestling....

wow, that menu sure looks awesome. is it all 3d or just an image?
to improve it (graphically), you should add a sunset, the water shader and zoom out the camera a bit so we see the sun and the reflection of the sun and island on the water

the "sections" folder works for me... hmm, maybe something happened while you downloaded it?

Hi, I want to start work on the Quest engine ASAP - but where do I start?

1) Are there any 'coding regulations'?
2) Can I download the latest 'build' - so I can see how it works so far?
3) Is there already something that handles quests? Or can I just jump straight in and start building a system to handle it?
4) What kind of objectives are these quests likely to have?

David R,

1) Are there any 'coding regulations'?
-Gil? hehe, afraid im not sure what to answer...

2) Can I download the latest 'build' - so I can see how it works so far?
-You can get the "talk system" since that is what you need to work from

3) Is there already something that handles quests? Or can I just jump straight in and start building a system to handle it?
-The "talk system" uses a "Quest" button. clicking on that button, if the NPC have a quest, will give you some text. text about a quest.
you need to add that quest in the "journal" or whatever you plan to make. also with the talk system, if a quest is complete, the NPC should say something different. so the talk system wont be 100% finished until you make the "quest engine".
im sure Gil have more to add.

4) What kind of objectives are these quests likely to have?
-hmm.. gil?

@Heckno: Nice menu . I emailed you.

1) not sure what you mean...what kind of regulations?
2)Yeah, the talk system, but not the whole engine until you make the quest engine, nothing personal, nobody but Lukas and I get the main code for now, just in case people join for the code .
3) Yeah, Lukas got it already. Theres a talk system, but that just displays the quest if you select that. It doesnt do anything or activate anything "behind the scenes".
4) Varying, anywhere from go steal this necklace, to i need this much wood, go chop it down, apprentice, to the fort is under attack by the french, defend it to the best of your ability. Quest in this game arent always going to fit the definition or connotation of "quest" where you set out on an adventure type thing with objectives, but more like tasks, some profession related, others not .
Thanks for doing this!

Ok, I've started a bit of code - but one little question;

I'm doing quite a few 'safety checks' to stop crashing (checking files exist before opening them etc.) - but what should I do if it finds one of these files doesn't exist?

Should I make it end with an exit prompt, or is there some other method that you guys are using to trap errors and stuff?

i have not implemented a "saftey" code part in my "engines"..

but just (if you know how) make it write debug data in a txt file so we know where stuff goes wrong. also if a file doesn't exist, just create that file or maybe i misunderstood

ill send you the talk system v1.3 when i get home from work

Sorry for the inactivity lately. I'm really waiting to get the engines so I can work on putting them together. In the mean time I implemented the fort. Textures will be improved on it later, but the layout and model will be the same (although its not completely finished. Anyways, heres 3 screenies:

EDIT: Heres three more, they show more of the interior of the fort.

And BTW, those random brick column things are just measuring how tall a person is, I use those when making the map to figure out how to scale things, and I just haven't taken them out yet. And the floating person in the 5th one is cause I was measuring how much I needed to scale the fort so that one of those models was equal to one of those brick columns that measure the size of a person . (Was that confusing?)

Man, that's a nice water effect! Next visually I think you should add some light mapping, and make the land texture a bit more detailed. And what resolution is the game? No offence, but the resolution looks kind of low.

Anyway, this is coming along really well, and I really like the fort.

Thanks, yeah, on the lightmapping, I've tried to get it in my maps, but for some reason CS4 lightmapper only works upstairs, on a slow computer . Not sure what the resolution is .

@Bizar Guy: Thanks, but all that seemed to do was make all the text smaller, It didnt seem to increase the resolution .
@Animeblood: I think I'd like you to do it, but see if you can combine that screenshot with a more HUD-like menu I guess you could call it. Although I like what he's done with that part, I think itd be better to have that shot more as a background and not have it dominate the screen. I also kinda want it less "cartoony", something more like...Elder Scrolls or Empire Earth 2 (I think I remember you saying you've played that ).
