DBPro is giving me some MAJOR problems.

I have two computers:

1)Athlon XP 1800+
Radeon 7000
DX9
Latest Drivers
Windows XP Home

2)P3 800 MHz
DX 8.1
Intel 82810E Graphics Controller
Windows ME

The first time after installing DBPro, everything works fine.

However, after that, some MAJOR problems start:

1)The editor doesn't load up when I click on the shortcut on the desktop, the one in the DBPro folder, or use the link on the CD. I have to double click on a .dba or .dbpro file to open the editor.
When it opens, it loads nothing more than a blank project screen: I have to then use File, Open to see the code of a project. (I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but it's really inconvenient....)

2)After I compile about 20 times, I then get the error on the XP Computer that: DBPro has encountered and error and needs to close,
and on the ME computer says the Db_Professional has caused an error in DbPro.exe (or whatever the name of the Professional .exe is) and needs to close.
When this happens, nothing will open. When I double click on the .dba or .dbpro files, I get the error that Dark Basic Professional has caused an error in Editor.exe.

3)After error #2 occurs, NOTHING GRAPHICAL works on EITHER COMPUTER. Anything and everything involving 3D or 2D graphics either doesn't load up (must be crashing immediately) or freezes my computer and causes more damage to my system.

4)I can easily fix #2 by reinstalling DBPro on the ME computer. However, on the XP, I have to completely REINSTALL WINDOWS, MY RADEON 7000 DRIVERS, AND DBPRO in order to use DBPro again.

5)I've run the scandisk and defragmented the harddrives on both computers: no errors.

6)Dark Basic Classic edition WORKS ABSOLUTELY FINE ON BOTH COMPUTERS!!!!!!!

I bought the DBPro upgrade because I had already ordered DBC. Could this be the problem? Or is it a faulty CD? Some sort of virus on both computers knocking stuff out maybe?

CAN ANYBODY IN THE ADMINISTRATION TELL ME WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?????!!!?!?!?!?!?!? I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO USE MY CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR A MONTH AND A HALF NOW!!!!!!!!!

*Sighs in frustration*

Thanx a TON if you can help.

possible solutions

did u try reinstalling it once on one pc?

then updating it with the patches?

I dont think u can use it on 2 pcs on a lan if u only purchased one disc.

it might be causing conflicts, This happens lots in printing houses who try to skimp on photoshop liscences.

the add remove feature has a repair remove or install option.

You may just want to try and repair it first then apply the patches again if required.

as a general rule re install clean and update again if all else fails.

general house keeping stuff

u may have to verify your dx is correct with "dxdiag" in the run prompt.

run your virus scanner with the latest updates.
remove any spyware or rogue programs that u didnt realise were in your machine as a general clean healthy system rule.
adaware6 and spybot search and destroy are the best

I've uninstalled it from both and then reinstalled it on one at a time, but it still gives me all those errors.

The updates don't make anything different: it still crashes after 20 or so compiles.

Yeah, DX is okay on both comps.

This is getting really frustrating.

You have ANY idea what's going on here, Rich? Because nobody else seems to be having problems of this magnitude.....

Sounds like your CD Drives dont like SafeDisk (because of the 20 compile 'limit') and/or some windows files (and possibly DBPro) files are corrupt.

Certainly worth checking to make sure there are no viruses etc.

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...
http://www.nickk.nildram.co.uk/ for great plug-ins - oh my, yes!

Doesn't like SafeDisk? I don't even have the CD in the drive while I'm using DBPro. I can usually load the editor without it.....does this have anything to do with it?

None of the DB files are corrupt, and the Windows files all seem fine.

Sheesh. Looks like I'm going to have to call Europe just to find out what the heck's going on here. (I'm in the U.S.)

u need the cd every 20 compiles or so, If u come across a window "failed to validate compiler" then just restart db with the cd in.

other than that i have no idea.

Even after putting the CD in, the Editor won't load (DBPro has caused an error in Editor.exe)

Does the editor request the CD when you start it up? - It shouldn't - only the compiler requests the CD. Don't start the editor from the CD if that is what you are doing.

NOBODY has a forum name as stupid as Darth Shader. I do.

No, no. I mean that even with the CD in, trying to load the editor in any way results in that error.

So no other ideas?
