the interiors look really good!

except for the chairs which i think could use a bit more of a "chairy" texture...they don't have to be fancy, just something to make them look like they wheren't extruded from the floor

LOL, I assure you they arent. The general process is that Mega models, textures and Light, and I position. This includes each individual piece of furniture, tree's etc. I'm very very anal about how props are placed and so I insist on manually position everything.

Quote: "This is looking cool, good luck with it - a truly open ended rpg would be a real achievment"

I appreciate that! I my self am an old school gamer (32 years old)who's roots stem from Dungeons & Dragons Basic (the old boxed set) and am an avid EverQuest gamer who was one of the initial Beta 1 players. I am firm on OpenEnded RPG.

And we arent doing this haphazzard, guys. I have and had documented the project prior to beggining it and have and am dumping considerable funds (As both LIT and Mega can attest for)into it to make it happen and not become Vapour Ware.

It wont be complete over night or weeks nor months or ever for that matter. OpenEnded often entails "Ever Ongoing".

We will release a demo on completion of the first Terrain/Landscape
as the engine is now definitley stable and functional enough for a Beta 0.1 release. However many features will not be included such as purchasing of Class,Race,Alignment,Age,Gender,Gear etc. It will be just enough to roam the terrain and city, interact w/ NPC's,Jump,Swim etc. No ETA as of yet. Nothing worse than an anticipated release date to only be disappointed.

[EDIT]
I'm going to be bold and plug this here.. If you havent yet tried the LUA Unity Scripting? Then do so. Very easy to learn and makes RPG development infinitley more convienient. The abillity to alter code without having to exit your engine and recompile again? IS very, very nice.

Megaton, really nice models! I think they are just incredible! What modeller do you use? Milkshape?, I was wondering how did you recalculate all the normals?

Mega and I where reluctant to put any new screens up until we could post a completed village, dungeon, buidings, characters etc. But for the sake of showing we havent died and are working hard on this project.

Just throwing them up to break the monotaney of village/city screens.

Dungeon Screens:

Likely have more and mapped screens late tonight.
Not far from done the engine and will start on shaders.

Well, as usual, this game is looking awesome, and I must say that is an extremely convincing sky. It will be really amazing if you manage to get it to change and move as it would in real life. I've only seen such an effect in two games, but it really is quite immersive if you can figure it out.

You guys, rock. Thanks for the encourgement.

Mega and I communicate all day from work and school to get this done then again soon as we get home.

Lost In Thought replies to my queries nearly instantaenousley with code solutions and more efficient approaches to my code. He him self has some amazing effects in his engine that I very much want worked into mine. Swinging doors, expanding bridges and alot, alot more.

David T helps with scripting as his time permits..

Thanks again guys. Far from done, sorry we cant quote a demo release date. Rather get it done right than rushed.

Thanks guys.

The terrain is much better now and FPS ranging from
45-70 average. Colormap im using is questionable and seems to be holding my attention along with an attempt to have smoke billowing from the chimneys.

At the moment, my agenda is:
- complete populating the new terrain .w new buildings
- populate the new buildings with new furniture (and fireplaces for those with chimneys)
- add smoke to chimneys
- add swinging doors (right now, its hit "e" to enter them. unattractive.
- add tree's and foliage
- add sizable ice patch .w sliding collision (face it,would be funny to watch another player fleeing from a mob and hit an icepatch then go sliding out of control)
- finish adding the new dungeon
- Finally get you guys an in game video to see
- start on modeling the characters
- finish Lua Scripting the character base and racial statistics

Dark Coder and I have been talking. He may lend his modeling skills to the project after all. keywords being "may help.."

As for the characters, and for those unfamiliar with Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st Edition:

The Races Are:
Human
Elven(High,Gray,Valley,Sylvan,Wood,Dark)
Gnome(Surface,Deep)
Dwarf(Gray,Hill,Mountain)
Halfling(Stout,Tallfellow,Hairfoot)
Half-Orc(ugly...)

Classes Are:
Cavalier
Paladin
Cleric
Druid
Fighter
Barbarian
Ranger
Magic-User
illusionist
Thief
Assasin
Monk
Bard

I'll try and post ilustrations of all races/classes later on.

back to work

Thanks Ian. Sincerely hope your rpg completes this time! If not, mayhaps we can combine projects.

I was prospected by a very potential Modeler/Animator late last night. We're in the midst of discussing the project and approach. Next screens will either be the compeleted village or Completed Viallge with first in game Character (likely a Knight(Cavalier or Paladin) or Wizard(Magic-User or illusionist) type)

Appreciate that, mike. We're miles and miles from done obviousley. 1 village scene, 1 dungeon scene clearly does not constitute "a game"

I do feel that we need to slow down on the screens as it will take from the excitement from the game when everone who tries the demo can say "saw that...saw that...yup, saw that in a screen too" etc.

Soon we will "appear" to being going through a lull and heading to "Vapourware" when this is infact FAR from the case. We just prefer to keep the rest a surprise and let the random demo relases show the updates, and even then intentionally exclude ALOT for the first full release.

There will be a few more shots as the new player characters and GUI are added and characters in battle. all of which will be in taken in the already displayed Dungeon and Village. No others.

These shots Mega wanted to see. In game Dungeon shots (mega, as you requested)

These are in game dungeon screens. Unfurnished, resident free, torches unlit and obviousley you cant hear the ambient music. Again to be discoverd in game.

Alot has been added and coded since last update but I'll throw these up for the sake of it. Day and Night shots of a fraction of the 1st Village.

Lightmapping will be applied after the village is complete
Doors and Swinging Door Code to be Added
Tree's to be Added
All buildings to be Furnished (furniture is complete)

As always, thank you Mega for help with Models and Thanks Lost In Thought for help with code.

Ok,this(step in the project) wont be progressing any further as im crawling back into my cave to study vectors(thanks lit), physics(thanks zotoaster), my new DBP Programming Volume 1 and whatever other perls of coder wisdom I can drain from LIT.

All code and source has been made available at
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=68973&b=1

Extra models and music have been made available to the OMMORPG project. If you want them,go give them a visit and your support in return for what they are providing, free to the community.

Once again,a major thanks to Lost In Thought,Megaton Cat,David T and Zotoaster for their time and paitience with my persistant hounding for help and information.

As always, you can gaurantee that the Juxta Tempus Project will pop up again in a few months.
