Hi,
my name is Steven Sapper and i'm a programmer at 6for9 GrafiX.

We are a german programmers team which is working with DBP.

Our newest project is a techdemo with FarCry Style.

We have made a small Video and screenshots which are showing the currunt status of the development.

We hope that we will get a answer.

PS: to unpack the file you need the program WinUHA which you can download here for free.

Utterly gorgeous

For those of you who don't want to download the 41MB DivX AVI (and the weird unpacker to unpack it with) I have converted it into a Windows Media file, 256k stream. The audio quality is much worse, but the video quality remains very similar and it's only 8.8MB instead now. Grab it from here:

http://files.thegamecreators.com/misc/tecdem256k.wmv

Can't wait to see something playable

Cheers,

Rich

Look what you've done...Large terrains, lots of Polys, Shaders, vegetation with no black edges. What are people going to complain about and say is impossible now?

Fantastic job, I look forward to seeing more. Although I don't think German music is my taste

Hi Steven Sapper, that looks awesome!

Do you have an email address that I can contact you privately through, Steven? Or could you drop me a line at drewcameron@ddrw.com so I can ask you a question?

Again, fantastic work!

Looks very slick! Only one thing to comment on: Where the water plane intersects the land and other objects there is a lot of flickering. It looks a bit odd. Other than that, great job on the presentation; I look forward to seeing more of this project.

Looks quality. I wonder if there's a way to get some shadowing on the buildings and trees. You can just about get away without it looking cheap in a super bright tropical environment like that, but as soon as you go to a dusk/dawn environment, it's gonna look weak.

Anyway, well proven what DB is capable of. It looks quality. If you could get some shadow shaders or something on the trees and buildings, that'd be amazing.

The link works fine - check your firewall settings.

Great work Steven - looks fantastic. The flickering at the water's edge is something I've found when using the advanced terrain plugin. May be an issue with the z-buffer - you could try altering the near value of the camera range.

easiest thing to do is open windows media player manually, click on File then Add Url (or open url, or load url, whatever they call it) and put the link in there. It will stream directly to your player that way

looks very impressive

That is pretty sweet. It's about time someone made something in DBP that didn't look like a poor man's poo chute. Me included.

Stunning.

I hope you develop this into a game or at least a playable demo, it all looks so inviting . If I have 1 critique it's that those buildings are pretty annoying in Farcry, perhaps let your artist come up with an old ruin or something like that to break away from the bamboo.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I noticed you have that edge flicker problem with the advanced terrain, does anyone know how to fix it or if it`s being taken care of?, atm it stops me from using terrain in my games, I would rather use a matrix with lower quality than a terrain that flickers at plain/object intersections all the time.

You know I don't have that problem, one factor may be that I always make my terrain first, as object 1 - maybe that stops it.

Ah yes, shadows was the other thing I was going to comment on. You need some shadow shading or lightmapping in that level. Shadows add a lot or realism and detail to scenes that aren't very graphically pleasing (so imagine what it would do to your scene!)

Hi UK Forum

I thank you in my name and the team for your help and your nice answers

To answer some questions.

Yes it will exists a techdemo and maybe it will be playable

The shadow shading is not so easy, because the normal instructions make errors. And lightmaps are not possible, because I haven't a lightmapper like Giles.

The flickering of the water will I try today again, with the instruction camera range to repair. (thanks for your Help )

And naturally I will hold you up to date.

Very nice indeed!

Curious: did you ever manage to get an effect where someone can run through the water, or drive through the water on a boat???

I've been trying to figure the best way to go about it using shaders

That's GORGEOUS, you're pushing a lot a polys there, What sort of framerates do you get? What optimisations have you added for speed?

Or use the new (but undocumented) lightmapping commands that come with 5.9.
