Just confirmed with Mike that this is OK (convention guys, no brand names please!)...

Mike unveiled the upcoming physics pack at the weekend...and it rocks! It also rolls, accelerates, falls, splashes, drives, topples, swings and many, many more things. Mike has gone to town with this pack and it shows

He gave a taster of boxes stacking and falling, spheres rolling and crashing, **thousands** of objects simoultaneously interacting.

It's got particles and cloth...but this time you can fire particles at the cloth and they will collide.

Not good enough? How about a rope of spheres on a motorised crane demolishing towers of boxes? Or doors that fall off their hinges if you hit them hard enough?

Not convinced? How about a car with full suspension, engine, independent braking on each wheel, differentials and all speeding off a ramp into a pile of boxes?

You should have got off your derrieres, accepted Squidgy's invite and been there!!!

I'm sure the other guys will confirm that I'm not over-egging this baby, it really is awesome!

If I can make the car go off a ramp and into a lamp post, then I'll be happy.

I'll be very happy.

Great convention! Well done Nick! Also, great to see everyone again!

For my part, I was deeply, deeply impressed by the forthcoming physics dll. Mike's done the community proud again.

Incidentally, please can everyone who has posted a picture with me in it (and there are only 3), please remove it. I've got a mystique to preserve here. Besides the "human disguise" didn't really work. Also, I can't help noticing that the few pictures that I do appear in have me labelled as the wrong person.

I'm now off to buy FPSC. After seeing Lee's presentation, its a must.

I've postponed my monthly shower to play with that code snippet
If you want to play, you could actually download some of the levels people have posted in the FPSC forums.

Mmmm...physics and FPSC levels combined! I was thinking about "enclosing" outdoor scenes...you could use very high cliff faces and tunnels, or cleverly constructed skyscrapers.

I can confirm what BatVink says. The Physics absolutely rocks. I've been playing with it for a week and a bit now, it's great.

Steve, I think you missed out certain other plugins that are appearing!

You look completely different to how I thought you looked. I must have looked at the wrong person in last year's photos.

@DavidT

Thats because last year's photos actually labelled me correctly. In this year's photos, I've been mislabelled as Scraggle and Wolf. In the other picture you can't even see me because the enormous sandwich that TCA is eating is in the way.

I think the subliminal message that I put in my presentation worked. Lots more people now seem to like lawyers.

You were in the black jumper with black hair? I think that was you. I saw the others were scraggle and wolf, so deduced as such. Last time I thought you were blad, had a round head, and wore glasses. Must have been somebody else I was looking at.

Sweet, this sounds just like Meqon That's what we use in our development studio, and back when I was programming the physics, I was extremely pleased that the engine has a vehicle class built-in. Wish I was there I'm living on the wrong side of the world...

My thanks also go to Nick for organising the event. It's the first one I've been to and thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was great finally putting names to some faces (Or more like Forum Names to faces). Friday night seems a bit of a blur, I don't think I've drunk so much Guinness ever. I lost count after 7ish. BTW I'm the one that had question marks on the earlier photos, the tall rotund balding one .

I agree Mike's demos were very impressive.

I'm FINALLY getting a chance to post again!

My computer died in a puff of smoke as I was trying to copy my pics from it. Luckily, after much work, I have recovered my entire hard drive. Even luckier, my laptop was still under warranty... by ONE F'N DAY

I'm not going to post my pics right now. It's really just more of the same. I must say though, I don't think I look like your "typical" programmer lol

Here is my account of what happened at the convention:
Fri 8:00pm:
Arrived at the Ship Hotel in Chichester. It was a very happening place. There were loads of nice looking girls EVERYWHERE.
Checked into the hotel, and brought my bags upstairs. I wandered back downstairs wading through all of the people wondering how the hell I was going to find the TGC people. I saw a corner of the bar with a bucnh of odd looking fellows in it. Ahhh.... that must be them. Indeed it was. I don't think I saw another hot girl all night
Batvink was very kind and bought me a beer. I returned the favor a short time after. Lagmaster layed on the floor in a pool of booze. Shortly after he stumbled back to his hotel. Everyone mostly discussed topics that are banned on these forums (religion, polotics, etc....)
Sat (Approx 3:45am):
Only Mike, Lee and myself were left in the bar. Although Mike was still there, he dropped out of the conversation around 2:30. He had this kind of look on his face
He told Lee that he needed to go up to the room, so we all decided to call it a night. Not before Lee got all of the half-empty beers on the table (there were quite a few) and poured them all into about 2 glasses. Lee downed that and stumbled upstairs.
I set my alarm for 9am, but woke up at 8am ready to go.
I went and had breakfast with Ian, then went to the convention room.
Philip gave a nice speech on the governing laws of jam sandwiches.
Mike gave a nice presentation on the physics pack.
Lee finally woke up at about 2pm. He graced us with a nice demo on using FPSC levels in DBpro projects. Cool stuff
I left on a train for London around 5:30pm

All in all, it was a GREAT time. Especially friday night. Thanks to all of you for welcoming a far travelled American to you group. I still can't believe the coincidences and aligning of stars that allowed me to attend. Since there is probably NO CHANCE IN HELL that I will be able to attend next year, maybe I can try to arrange a US convention instead.

That just sounds nasty Unless they were all Lee's beers, of course.

Wish I could have gone. Probably would be the first Canadian to go to a convention.

All I am saying is that they seemed to be EVERYWHERE before I met up with you all. I even briefly talked to a couple of nice looking girls on the stairs on my way down (I think they liked my accent ). Things seemed as if it could have been an interesting night (not that I would have done anything because I am married, but hey, flirting is always fun). Then POOF! All gone.
It was a fun night anyway. That is the most drunk that I have been in YEARS!

Uh, lads, "women" is another topic that Rich has banned discussion of in this forum.

But I'll risk my forum privileges and point out that the main reason all the women left was because SOMEONE (and he'll remain nameless) started talking metaphysics.

Anyhoo, back on track - glad you all liked the Convention - I'm thinking of having the next one in around 6 months time (June/July) - more people will hopefully come, and thus more money for me (ah, dont you love capitalism) - but its dependant of whether I will actually want to do one...
