Hi, I got a flashlight system that may work:

1. make a dynamic light that is switched off.
2. make this light follow you.
3. when the player presses "ENTER" the light should be switched on.

I just need help with the 2nd part... I can't make it follow me... Please help!

Regards,
John

well, you'll have to make it follow the flashlight. If it follows you, theneverytime you open a door, or turn a switch, the light will turn on. And you'll have to direct the light in a certain direction

When FPSC gets good enough, lets make a Redwall game!

Thats because it can't be done.

The lights can not move.
They are stationary, and can not be re-positioned in game.

This is old news.

There are a couple alternatives, but they have already been discussed.

Search the forums and you will find the threads.

well, there might be a way.

did anyone notice that when you fire a weapon, it lights up a room? there might be a way in the fpe to change the amount of time this flash lasts...and if there isnt...theres always the source...

I've made a flickering torch doing this but it didn't look right, no matter what settings I used, but you might have more luck.

Moving lights would be awesome. Hopefully something TGC will look at some day.

What about an idea using the code from the free night vision goggles? Could that somehow be modified into a working flashlight instead?

In order for that to work, you would need to make the default hud "dim" by making it not 100% transparent.

I was just able to get a new spot light made at the camera location when someone hits the "L" key through the source code, but that's no use to ppl who can't compile it. I will continue to research this for use outside the .exe.

@ OnePost: Thanks, I've made a code that works!

It's kinda like the Flashlight in Halo.
I've used a *.tga flashlight overlay too, and it actually looks nice!

I'll be reasing the code soon!

Any chance of having one on your gun (like in Quake 4) so you don't have to switch weapons when a bad guy jumps out at you?

There are 2 ways...

a gun with infinite ammo and infinite fire rate that has zero damage and very big light range.

Or a guy following you constantly fireing his own gun.

I've made a flashlight. (about a week ago)
It does not use either of those methods.
It uses the methods that I had discussed in other threads about flashlights.
The Enter Key toggles between On and Off.
You can rotate through your weapons during either position.
I'm not giving it away for free though.
It will be part of a pack.

Orgin said that he was going to put his flashlight here, but I don't see it yet.

My pack will be finished by next weekend.

you can't have any light mapping for that method. and you DID give it away for free (or atleast googles).

I prefer hard building a gun into FPSC that fires with the F key. looking into it, and if done, will submit to Riker 9.

Here's the best thing I could come up with.
I'm calling it a "Light Ray" instead of a "flashlight".

It ended up as being part of a Game, instead of being included in a Pack.
However, I left the Game "unpacked" so that you can look at the Script to see how it works.

Here's a demonstration video, but it's a little blurry because I had to chop down the file size.

You can read more about this and the Game in the thread in the FPSC Showcase Forum.
Or you can visit my website ...
