Alright, gonna try this once more.

How does a community model sound to everyone? By this I mean that over the next few days requests will be brought here, then a decision will be made on the model to pursue. Step-by-step progress will be shown everyday or so (depending on life), and user input could have a decision on how things progress. This could also go for the texturing of the model.

I encourage other modelers to post/take requests here as well.

Now, a few points:

-Currently I don't do organic (that is people, animals, or anything animated).

-This is for free, but please...NO discussions on the definition of free

-Once the model is completed, all relevant files will be handed over to a community member who knows how to make it game-ready.

-Again, any other modelers can feel free to jump in on this.

Think about what you would like to see, don't just post a list of stuff you want. I will be working on this on the side of my other work...slowly.

*note: any weapons I make will not be animated by me, currently. If someone wants to fill in that part we can get together.

Hi again Keith
I made a generic type dude (first couple of posts) in this thread:-
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=60823&b=24

A crudely animated one second post from bottom in .ms3d format, they are not textured ,I thought they would be a good starting point for anyone who wants to make their own characters.
The dude is as free as air for use commercial/personal(just not to be sold).
BTW it would be great if anyone does alter him if they would show the result.

How about a really foreboding medieval style door + frame. The kind that is the entrance to a level boss...

I would be happy to make a segment out of it.

Actually I started messing around with a big door a bit the other day:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/xt/xt_apollo_pic.php?i=714430

A tree that eats people=Organic; but a nifty idea though, especially if someone's doing a fantasy level.

How about small wooden carts and wagons? Nothing animated, just for scene placement that would fit the medieval theme...

Not saying the Tree's out, Snail, I could always make one (take a bit more work, but I could use the practice)...then someone else could take over and animate, etc.

The cart and wagons sound good too.

Well, it looks like the interest in this may be fleeting. I'm thinking of doing either the cart or the door. Decision is coming tonight so there's still time to get a consensus.

I like that idea!

Another door I think people would like is a dungeon style door, with bars - like a jail cell.

Would it be possible to animate something like that to slide up and down into the frame/wall texture?

what about a glass hallway segment, and turns and stuff?
i know it can be done with a entities, but they dont go all the way around a box and that makes it annoying.
i would know, i did the screen shot with the glass

What stood out to me was the dungeon idea, everyone has wanted a jail cell/dungeon segment at one time or another.

Socks?....?

Well the night's over and it looks like a door of some type is it. I'll begin with a basic shape sometime soon and post it later. I'm thinking a Heavy Door with metal banding on it, and handles.

It may look similar to the one I posted, only I can't animate a split door opening, so it may be one whole door.

So is it a single wooden door with metal bindings that I'm making? What about the frame is that needed, it will have to be a separate object, with a separate texture. Light wood, dark wood?

Not sure how this segment stuff works. I will have a rough copy up later though.

I had something going, but when I saved it I mixed it up and ended up getting a blank screen instead. I'll have another go at it when I'm done fuming. I'll be pretty busy next week, as I have a few papers and a presentation to do (International Relations and Comparitive Politics, as well as European Geography and Historical Methods; just in case you care )

OK, here's a quick and dirty mock-up. This is only a cube primitive, with some quick texture I threw together. Feeback.

Yes, I agree on the wood being aged, etc. That was merely a placeholder anyways. The 'opener/knocker' will be 3D as well; it will stick out. Does the shape look OK? Any other thoughts?

I'm not sure when I will actually be able to sit down with it over the next week because of finals and presentations, etc. But when I start on it, it should only take me an afternoon.

Unless I hear otherwise, I think this is the look I'm going for, with a few tweaks in the texture department.

Otherwise I can wrap this up shortly and make the .X and .TGA files available.

Looks really good. I wonder how hard it would be to put an iron bar window in the door using transparencies for a see through effect? Don't think I've seen that in FPSC yet...

Probably wouldn't need to use a transparency; I could probably just cut a hole in the door itself, and add the bars. That's a good idea, I may try that.
