Howdy!

Just installed the DBPro demo, trying to get something to run. Downloaded the demos or running source code from the IDE I get the following error:

Runtime Error 1511 - Display cannot be created due to invalid function paramters at line 0.

Where is line 0? The IDE starts at line 1. Even the precompiled download demos give the same error. I'm on Win2k Server with directx 8.1.

I've posted this message in the "newcommers" area; however, I've not found a resolution. Hoping folks in this forum will have a solution.

Knowledge greatly appreciated!

No, I only have 16-bit and 32-bit (true color) as selectable options. 16-bit is what I'm using.

Is there some way to change how much graphics support a DB program will use?

I have other 3D game programs which run fine on this machine; however, the DB ones will not. I suspect the driver and/or card (the card is an NVidia clone) provide weak 3D support.

So I'm wondering if there's a way to adjust a DB program, say through a command line parameter, so that it supports weak or no 3D graphics engine?

Are you talking about DB or DBPro first ? DB has software support (DBPro doesn't).

What type of NVidia card is it ?

Bet you it's a <32bit one.

Ending a sentence with a French word is so passé

IT's a 32MB NVidia Riva TNT2 Model 64... the "default" card that Dell was shipping for a few years there. LOTS of these cards are out there.

It's definanly a Dell variant on the NVidia card. The drivers from the NVidia site are unstable on this card. I had to uninstall the NVidia drivers and reinstall the Dell drivers. Only the Dell or Microsoft drivers work.

Other 3D games work fine on this card. The error message I received above happens both in DB and DBPro. I'm concerned about developing in DBxxx because of these issues.

Aside from buying a new card, there's nothing else to suggest really, aside from setting a resolution & depth in the programs.

I've got a TNT2 in two of my machines, one being a MX400, the other being something else. All with DX9, and they work okay.

Better E-Mail DarkBasic and see if they can suggest anything.

You can find the text debug file in the temp directory where the darkbasic programs unpack themselves to. It will give you a hint on what is wrong with your drivers.

Minimum Graphic memory requirement is 8 Mb, please read the system Requirements of DBP. On the other side, DB programs work even with 1 Mb video memory.

I've been getting this error on my machine, using an ATI AIW Rage 128 Pro, the wierd thing is that it used to work fine with the demos, but now I can't get anything to run at all, even simple code. The only changes I have made are Patch 3.1 installation and the newest IDE version. Any ideas?

Running dxdiag was helpful. Found out that either the card or the drivers don't support Direct3D or AGP accelleration. That prompted more searching and I found out the NVidia card in this HP computer is an HP variant and only the HP driver's support it's features. Previously I was trying to use either the drivers on the Microsoft CD or the drivers from NVidia. I didn't even think to try the drivers from HP.

So, the moral of this story, get the drivers from the CPU manufacturer and try them first. I didn't have to reconfig or reinstall DirectX at all. It was a driver problem all along.

Thanks so much for your help folks!
