Some of you will no doubt be familiar with .dds textures and the TexConv tool supplied with the DX SDK.
Anyway, .DDS files are compressed bitmaps, but they don't loose quality and go down to as much as 1/6th the size. They're perfect for .x models, in fact .dds is a DX image format. I've added a little .x texture switch tool, basically make the .dds textures from your bitmaps, then use the tool to select new textures for your .x file. Really easy to use, I've already set the defaults to DB friendly format. The texture switcher supports the common image formats.
